The thesis explores the Jewish view of Jesus Christ of Geza Vermes concept and its possible influence on the Jewish-Christian dialogue. This Jewish researcher is known primarily as a popularist of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were translated by him into English for the first time. Admittedly he is significant in the field of Jesus Studies. We present the author's perception of Jesus according to his life and work with focus on selected New Testament passages. Furthermore we focus on Messianic Judaism as a potential bridge in the Jewish-Christian dialogue, and discuss the conteporary state of these relations. A research survey was also developed on the subject of the dialogue. Finally, we summarize and evaluate the contribution of Geza Vermes' work, with emphasis on its use in the Jewish-Christian dialogue, with the support of our own research based on Czech experts,that complements the acquired piece of knowledge.

This dissertation analyzes Jewish religious views of Buddhism in a broad historical perspective, from the end of 18th century down to the present. Through an analysis of Jewish religious texts, it shows the ways Buddhism has been contextualized and tries to uncover Buddhism's role in modern Judaism. From these texts Buddhism emerges as 1) a tool of polemics and self-definition, 2) a form of spirituality fully compatible with Judaism, and 3) a competitor of Judaism, endangering its social and ideological integrity. While Jewish religious views of Christianity and Islam have been dealt with extensively in the academic literature, the role of Buddhism in various forms of modern Judaism has been either completely overlooked or at best reduced to the JUBU phenomenon. This dissertation aims to help fill this gap.

89 7. RESUMÉ The thesis is focused on the life of Jewish community in Prague, on the background of post-Holocaust and post-communist Europe. In the first part, the reader is introduced into the historical and sociological views on Jewish identity, with an emphasis on Central Europe and Prague in particular. The main part of the thesis is divided in separate chapters, each dedicated to one of the contemporary Jewish congregations in Prague. A special attention is given to the Jewish Community of Prague (Kehila Prag, or ŽOP). The other congregations analyzed in the thesis are Chabad Prague (part of Hasidic movement Chabad Lubavitch), Bejt Simcha and Jewish Liberal Union (both liberal/progressive), Bejt Praha and Masorti Prague (both conservative). Since the current situation of the communities has been poorly covered in relevant literature, our main sources of knowledge have been the internet pages of individual congregations, legal documents (statutes, articles of association), and periodicals issued by some of the communities. The question "Who is a Jew" is central in searching for the Jewish identities. The thesis compares certain trends and characters in these monoteistic religions with reference to mutual influences between western and eastern culture, which have been continuing even nowadays. The main object of interest is a human body and its carnality as well as the stereotypes we have about this topic. The doctoral dissertation deals with the description and analysis of healthy self-esteem in terms of its formation; influences that enter into the process of formation and possibilities of the healthy self-esteem development in the school environment with regard to social, cultural and religious context in which the student lives. The theoretical part of the thesis on the basis of literature compiled the most fundamental assumptions and circumstances that largely affect pupil's confidence and contribute to its development in a positive sense. Attention is paid to themes theoretical definition of the concept of self and internal influences that act on the formation of self-esteem. Family, school and peer group are presented as a major social and cultural external influences, together with a religious context influencing the formation of self-esteem. The performance is a phenomenological theory of Chris Mruk shows the issue of confidence in more complex form. The theoretical part is concluded by outlining the possibilities for the development of healthy self-esteem in school through the pupil )including peer mediation) and analysis of some international research which raises questions for a Czech context. The study deals with Prague Jews and their free time in the period between the end of 19th century and the year 1939. It focuses on society and leisure-time activities organized by Jewish Religious Community in Prague and other oficial jewish establishments, which influenced particular societies. It means especially those, which focused on education, social work, culture, sport and scouting. The thesis shows what the particular kinds of groups were doing and what organized for their members and also for the public. The author also indicates which aspects could influence Jewish free time activities and what the Old Testament and Talmud say about some leisure-time activities. In the end, she summarizes the specifics how the Jews who lived in the first half of 20th century in Prague were spending free time and evaluates the situation with respect to religion and tradition.

This diploma work deals with Judaism and Jewish attitudes and approaches to some selected chapters of bio-ethics. Theoretical part is devoted to Judaism in general and its directions, summarizes literary sources of Judaism, and describes dialogue between Christians and Jews. Next chapters of this diploma work present holidays in Jewish year and their division to several groups, Jewish family, including subchapter dealing with pregnancy and birth of a child and habits related to these events. In the final section at the conclusion of the theoretical part of this diploma work I have made comparison between three world monotheistic religions as a source of medical ethics and outlined attitude of Judaism to abortion and assisted reproduction. Research has been carried out by applying quantitative method and the students of South Bohemian University ? Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Theology and Medical Social faculty in the city of České Budějovice took part in the research. Technique of data collection was based on anonymous questionnaire. Total number of 300 questionnaires was distributed (100 questionnaires for each of the aforementioned faculties).

The thesis deals with a hypothetical project of a new building complex of a synagogue, a kosher restaurant and a community centre at the location of the former synagogue in Frýdek. The proposal includes a memorial of the destroyed synagogue and Jewish community, as well as the incorporation of the complex into the urban structure of the city. The project proposes a building distributed into three volumes. The restaurant and community centre are connected by an underground garage within a U-shaped floor plan. The buildings are axially symmetrical, white, with expressive rhythmical perforations of the facade. They surround the building of the synagogue in the shape of a seven-sided pyramid, which is clad with blue tempered steel and creates a strong contrast with the associated buildings. The whole complex is oriented towards the park and the chateau in Frýdek, from which it is clearly visible and thanks to its distinct volumetric and material expression and axially symmetrical composition creates a new landmark for the city.

The assignment of the diploma thesis was the elaboration of an architectural study of a new synagogue in the Frýdek-Místek. The solved area includes the original lands of the Jewish community, on which stood a synagogue, a Jewish school and a rabbinate. The synagogue was burned down in 1939 and currently only the rebuilt Jewish school building is located in the area. The main idea of the design is to build a memorial on the site of the original synagogue and a new synagogue with an adjoining community centre. The main goal is to support the development of the Jewish community in the city and to remind citizens and visitors of the history, because of which the Jewish community in Frýdek-Místek disappeared. In contrast to the monument, the entire building is set in the terrain so that the terrain passes freely in a public space with the main entrance to the community centre and a kosher restaurant. The building opens up to the south side of the slope and offers a view of the historic city centre of Frýdek. The area is connected by a footbridge to the park under the castle. Part of the community centre is a space for a ritual bath - Mikveh, the administration of the Jewish community and a multifunctional hall, which can be opened to the area in front of the residential staircase. The area is separated from Revoluční Street by a retaining wall and thus form an attractive place to spend time near the historic centre.

Tzava'at Ha-RIBaSH ve-hanhagot yesharot: The Influence of Non-Lurianic Kabbalah on East-European Hasidism of Modern Age Mgr. Antonín Šedivý This dissertation thesis consists of Introduction, three chapters, and Conclusion. Furthermore, it includes name index, list of traditional Jewish sources used in the second chapter, list of sources, literature and other relevant resources, and four supplements. The Introduction of this dissertation deals with several issues important for its research. First of all, the East-European Hasidism is introduced, then follows very thorough overview of current state of knowledge of Tzava'at Ha-RIBaSH ve-hanhagot yesharot, and the definition of goals, hypothesis, and methods of this dissertation, and finally, it also contains technical notes about the dissertation thesis. The first chapter "Tzava'at Ha-RIBaSH ve-hanhagot yesharot" is devoted solely to Tzava'at Ha-RIBaSH, which is the central point of my dissertation. It is divided into chapters that are dedicated to fundamental information about Tzava'at Ha-RIBaSH, to its content, to its place within Hasidic literary collection, and to its reflexion by the opponents of Hasidism.
