Factors associated with the success of participants in the 1981 National FFA Livestock Judging Contest

Herren, Ray V. January 1982 (has links)
The primary purpose of the study was to determine the factors that were associated with the success of those teams that participated in the 1981 National FFA Livestock Judging Contest. A secondary purpose of the study was to determine the attitudes of both the contestants and their advisors regarding the contest. The population consisted of 135 FFA members who competed in the contest in Kansas City, Missouri and their 45 advisors. The study was conducted using the entire population. A questionnaire was developed to obtain data regarding factors that could relate to success of participants in the contest. The instruments were distributed to students and advisors during a meeting the day before the contest. Forty-four advisors and 109 contestants completed the questionnaire. Twenty-seven research questions were answered based on data analysis using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation and differences in group means. The study concluded that the factors associated with success of participants in the 1981 FFA National Livestock Judging Contest were as follows. 1. Those teams who spent more time preparing for the contest tended to score higher. 2. Teams with advisors who had fewer years of vocational agriculture teaching experience tended to score higher. 3. Teams from states with high populations of cattle, hogs, and sheep tended to score higher. 4. Those teams who entered more livestock judging contests tended to score higher. 5. Teams from the Central and Western Regions tended to score higher. 6. Those teams with advisors who rated "undergraduate courses," "collegiate livestock judging team," and "FFA or 4-H livestock judging team" as being "extremely important" sources of their experience tended to score higher. 7. Teams from single teacher vocational agriculture departments tended to score higher. 8. Those teams selected by their advisors tended to score higher. Both students and advisors tended to have a positive overall attitude toward the contest. / Ed. D.

Importance of body conformation in predicting longevity and wearability of dairy cows

Catron, Samuel Morton January 1976 (has links)
Official type classification data recorded by the Holstein Friesian Association of America from January, 1967 to June, 1974 and DHIA production data recorded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture from January, 1960 to May, 1974 were evaluated as progeny tests to ascertain the relationship between body conformation and longevity and wearability of dairy cows. Data for 788 sires with at least 20 daughters in 10 herds with classification information and at least 30 daughters with production information was used. Means for type and production were daughter final score 80.1, predicted difference milk (PDM) -136, lifetime production 55,919 lb., production per day of productive life (PDL) 44A lb/day, age at last calving (AGE) 60. 1 mo., and percentage completing four lactations, 48.4%. Correlations between PDT and scorecard and descriptive traits were positive and highly significant (P < .01). Most of the relationships between PDM and type traits were negative and highly significant (P < .01) with the exception of dairy character which was positive ( .27). Longevity traits were lowly correlated with PDT and generally negative but were highly positively correlated with PDM. Correlations were low between longevity traits and descriptive and scorecard traits ranging from -.23 between PDL and rump to .21 between age and head. Regression of type and production traits on longevity traits indicated that PDM was the best predictor of LTP (R² = .28) and PCT 4 (R² = .12); however, the combined descriptive traits are the best predictor of PDL (R² = .12) and AGE (R² = .10). The best type indicators of longevity appeared to be dairy character, mammary system, udder quality, udder support and floor, teat site and placement, stature, fore udder, and rump. / Master of Science

self-imAGE

Wymer, Tammy Jean 01 January 2003 (has links)
Many current media images of women have underlying messages that affect our psyche in a negative way, whether or not we are aware. These images convey an unrealistic, distorted view of ideals and perfection, which create an unattainable model to live up to. As women, we should be cherishing our uniqueness, but, rather than celebrating and accepting ourselves, we are taught to judge and conceal. This project seeks to address inner beauty as a reflection of our energy, vitality, wisdom and the mental, as well as emotional, engagement in our lives. The terms perfection and imperfection will be redefined and applied to inward rather than outward appearance. Through a photographic study, this project will emphasize the value and beauty in aging. In the end, I would like to encourage my audience to not only recognize but also understand and accept the difference between media images and their own self-images.

Chrudimský, Jan January 2014 (has links)
Title: Objectivity of gymnasts' achievements judging in relation by Code of Points Men's Artistic Gymnastics changes The problem of our work is an objectivity of gymnastics way of ranking or judging. Analysis of results reached at chosen men's artistic gymnastics competition and also a method of gymnastics judging was used for solving purpose of our thesis. The evaluation of gymnasts achievements are realized by referees according to Code of Points (CoP) Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), which are periodically changed. The purpose was verify possibility of determination degree of objectivity judging gymnastic performances in relation to changes rules of men's artistic gymnastics realized in years 2006, 2009, 2013 through analysis of gymnastics results in seniors and juniors categories reached on important international competitions. We used methods and techniques of statistical description for ordinal data; Sign test; Wilcoxon test; contingency table and sign diagram for contingency table. For evaluation rate of interrater concordance referees of panel "B" or "E" we used ICC and Pearson's correlation coefficient. For evaluation of bilateral discriminability of reached gymnastics results we used SEM and calculation of Critical Differences. In connection with changes of CoP MAG on monitored period...

L'office du juge judiciaire et la rétroactivité / The function of the judicial judge and retroactivity

Malpel-Bouyjou, Caroline 23 November 2012 (has links)
The connexion between the function of the judicial judge and retroactivity occurs by the postponement in the past of legal effects involved by the function of judging. Whether judicial or case law, retroactivity always entails a posteriori a change of the legal system. Traditionally related to legal insecurity that it can generate, nevertheless retroactivity is not always, in this regard, a bad solution. Indeed, in a certain number of cases, it is the efficiency requirement of the function of judging. Thus efficiency, set as its rational basis, justifies and determines the field of retroactivity, whether this retroactivity affects the judicial or case law effect of the judgment.

Performing and observing complex skills in gymnastics: An investigation of prototypical movement patterns and perceptual-cognitive processes

Mack, Melanie 19 July 2021 (has links)
In gymnastics, the performance is evaluated by a subjective rating, whereby one of the biggest problems is the validity and reliability of judgment. The process of observing and evaluating complex motor skills such as those found in gymnastics is located in the cyclical interaction between perception and action, raising the key question, how the quantifiable movement execution is related to the perceived movement quality. Therefore, the thesis aimed at a first step to kinematically analyze selected prototypical gymnastics skills to investigate at a second step the underlying perceptual-cognitive mechanism when observing and evaluating those skills. In the analysis of kinematics, it was focused on the classification and structuring of temporal-spatial continuous kinematic movement patterns and their relationship to the perceived movement quality. In the investigation of the perceptual-cognitive mechanism, it was focused on how skill kinematics are related to the perceived movement quality. Furthermore, the gaze pattern was evaluated and examined during the observation. Five consecutive studies were conducted to achieve those objectives. It was shown that complex gymnastics skills can be kinematically structured into prototypical movement patterns, which differ concerning certain variant and invariant kinematic characteristics. The results of a model-based approach to predict perceived movement quality out of the kinematics of gymnastics skills showed a significant relationship between the predicted score and the true score. Overall, the models worked best for the vault skill, which was the shortest skill with the least spatial variability. Out of all models, the neural network approach showed the best results. Furthermore, it was found, that the similarity of the kinematics of gymnastics skills did not correlate with the similarity of the perceived movement quality. During the evaluation, the gaze pattern was influenced by the manipulation of the amount of non-kinematic information. This was especially the case for the last skill. Expertise seemingly influenced the perceptual-cognitive mechanism partially, but no clear pattern was visible. The results provided first insights on how gymnastics performances and the resulting judgment scores are related. The complexity of gymnastics skills and additionally, the similarity of the performance level in high elite sport is increasing. This challenge as well as the fast development of technologies leads to the occurrence of computer-based judging systems. Their reliability and validity, but also their challenges and opportunities in artistic gymnastics should be further investigated.
