The major purpose for this study was to determine the self-perceived leadership styles of the presidents, vice-presidents, and deans of public community and junior colleges in Texas in 1994. Administrators' choices of leadership style were also compared with personal characteristics of leaders, such as age, gender, title, number of years in current position, number of years in current institution, number of years in administration, degree earned, number of years in teaching, and number of full-time subordinates. The backgrounds of the administrators, particularly their previous experience, control over their respective budgets, size of their budgets (state, local, other, percentage of workers' compensation), and the ethnicity of leaders, were also examined. The Styles of Leadership Survey and a Demographic Information Form were used to collect the data.

The purpose of this study was to determine what knowledge and skills are currently being taught in beginning microbiology in junior/community colleges in Texas. This information was determined from a survey questionnaire sent to junior/community college teachers of beginning microbiology. Also surveyed were senior college teacher who teach courses which require beginning microbiology as a prerequisite. This additional survey was to determine what preparation is needed for students progressing from beginning microbiology to upper level microbiology courses. Information gathered from the two populations of teachers was then compared to determine if any differences exist in the depth of coverage assigned by these teachers.

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of pupil failure in the seventh and eighth grades of the Cleburne Junior High School, to determine to what extent certain mental characteristics contribute to pupil failure and success, and to submit some suggestions as to how pupil failure may be reduced to a minimum in the seventh and eighth grades of the Cleburne Junior High School, Cleburne, Texas.

This thesis is an analysis of certain factors associated with school progress of students of the graduating class of the Hillsboro Junior High School for 1940. The study is limited to considering the effect of age, attendance, environment, and economic status on progress during four years that these students attended junior high school.

Studente wat vir Junior Primere opleiding aan onderwyskolleges registreer, is verplig om opleiding in Klasmusiek vir een van die vier studiejare te deurloop. Navorsingsbevindinge toon egter dat die opleiding nie die gewenste resultate in die praktyk fewer nie. Om probleme en tekortkominge voortspruitend uit die opleiding te identifiseer is 'n literatuurstudie aan die hand van die volgende aspekte gedoen: (1) 'n Besinning oor die struktuur van die kurrikulum en formulering van kurrikulumkriteria vir die samestelling van 'n sillabus. (3) Eksemplariese analise van sillabusse vir die Klasmusiekopleiding van die student ten einde bevindings en aanbevelings wat as riglyne vir herkurrikuleringsaksies in die toekoms mag dien, te formuleer. / This study deals with the education of student teachers for Class Music in the Junior Primary phase. Students who enroll for a Junior Primary Course at Colleges of Education have to follow a compulsory course of at least one year in Class Music during their four year training. Research has indicated however that the training of these students does not bring about the desired results in practice. To identify problems and shortcomings stemming from the training in Class Music, a literature study was undertaken in which the following aspects were dealt with: (1) Consideration of the structure of the curriculum and the formulation of curriculum criteria for the compilation of a syllabus. (2) Identification of the structure of music and Class Music. (3) Analysis of examples of syllabuses for the training of students in Class Music to formulate findings and recommendations to serve as guidelines for curriculum review and restructing in future. / Educational Studies / M. The study was undertaken: (a) to categorize the contents of educational computing articles using a taxonomy developed by Knezek, Rachlin, and Scannell (1988), (b) to examine the trends in educational computing subject matter addressed in community/junior college journals between 1977 and 1991, and (c) to identify and analyze specific characteristics of contributing authors and their employing institutions which might explain writing and publication biases.
