Each of the three parts of the present thesis treats one aspect of researching Antonio Caldara's masses written in Prague. Chapter One maps the current state of research and relevant basic sources on the Czech territory. Chapter Two focuses on a detailed description and following collations of Caldara's seven masses, quite exceptionally obtained from the musical collection of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, with other concordant sources. Examples of watermarks and manuscripts can be found in the Attachment. The partial analysis of selected masses described in Chapter Three serves as a complement to the research of sources. Much attention is given to the macro-structural division of mass compositions in relation to the liturgy.

The Lambl's family was a part of the famous intellectual family in Bohemia in the second half of the 19th century. The Lambl's brothers were respected experts in their profession. František Sudimír became a highly educated economic officer, Karel Milan was a highly educated economic pedagogue, Vilém Dušan was a very famous doctor and Jan Baptista was a highly educated agricultural expert and at the same time he worked as a organizer of the economic school systém. Eight of the brothers and sisters lived to an adult age, four sisters (Marie, Barbora, Eliška, Anna) and four brothers. All the brothers got married and set up their own families, only one of the sisters - the youngest Ann, got married. The brothers and sisters took a part in the Bohemia patriotic life (for example Vilém Dušan was politically active in 1848, he was in correspondence, apart from others, with Karel Havlíček). The sisters then were involved in the women's society mainly. All brothers and sister made up a compact group for the duration of seventy years. This M.A. thesis deals with the office of the Czech translator at the local government in Prague, which was established in 1749 as a part of the Repräsentation und Kammer. The first aim of our work is to describe and explain the agenda of this department, assess its activities within the contemporary context and justify its establishment. In doing so, we contribute to the historical research by describing the situation of the officials at the time of Maria Theresa and Joseph II, and furthermore we contribute also to the linguistical research by studying the role of Czech in the administration in 18th century. The introduction describes the situation of Czech language in the 18. century and analyzes the state of research. The further text is divided into three chapters. The first one shows the development of Bohemian local government in Prague where Czech translators were working. The most important part of the work is the second chapter, which expounds the history of the translator's office and provides biographies of individual translators. The third chapter presents the Apology of Czech written by the first known translator Matěj Rudolf Blažej which is interesting for us as an example of texts produced by the office in the 18th century and as a contribution to the Czech National Revival.

The thesis deals with a classic fairy tale of the 19th century, in particular with the comparison of chosen categories of motifs (animal motifs, food motifs, power conflicts, generation conflicts, gender motifs) in selected fairy tales written by brothers Grimm, Božena Němcová and Karel Jaromír Erben. The original text is the German one, which is consequently compared to the Czech one. The thesis deals with the fairy tales Die weiße Schlange (compared to Karel Jaromír Erben's fairy tale Zlatovláska) and Frau Holle (compared to the text written by Božena Němcová O dvanácti měsíčkách). The goal of the thesis is to ascertain to what extent the depiction of the chosen motifs differ in German and Czech variants, or to what extent they correspond. The used methods are comparison, analogy and analysis, followed by synthesis of discovered knowledge.

I focus on viola performances in the Czech surroundings in my thesis. I follow the topic of my Bachelor thesis. I resume the history of the instrument playing in my introduction; then I follow the development to the string quartet from its origin - turn of the 19th and 20th centuries until today. I analyze the artistic career of some chosen quartets, which are characteristic for certain period. I especially take notice of important Czech viola players (Herold, Škampa). I introduce two contemporary figures of the viola play (Doležal, Pěruška) in the practical part and I offer comparison of the interpretations of Dvořák's compositions done by three different string quartets from different periods.

The aim of this thesis is to describe in detail three military campaigns of Emperor Charles IV. (1316 - 1378) within the territory of the Holy Roman Empire. It uses diplomatic and narrative historical sources to map the political circumstances, proces, and military aspects of the three given campaigns. The first campaign is Charles IV's struggle for power over the Holy Roman Empire in the years 1347 - 1349. The second is the military expedition against counts of Württemberg in 1360. The third conflict is Emperor's conquest of Mark Brandenburg, connected with the pursuit of a second electoral vote for the house of Luxembourgs, which took place in the years 1371 - 1373. The thesis tries to be beneficial to the question of the role, that the use of military power might have had in the politics of Charles IV. By comparing the process and circumstances of the three given conflicts, the thesis aims to confirm or deny the existence any kind of specific military-strategic doctrine of Charles IV. One of the discussed problems is also the structure of the armyies that Charles IV had at his disposal during the studied campaigns. This thesis deals with the history of the Ashburnham family during the English Civil War. The research is based primarily on the examination of published and unpublished archival sources. The first chapter outlines the origin of the Ashburnham family from their arrival in England, probably with the troops of William the Conqueror, until the early seventeenth century when their prosperity came from the processing of iron. The diploma thesis also analyses the reasons that caused the outbreak of the English Civil War. The core of the thesis is focused on the relationship between John Ashburnham and Charles I, mainly on king's escape from Hampton Court to the Isle of Wight in 1647 and John's part in it. Although the history of the Ashburnhams is followed mainly during the times of the English Civil War, the thesis also covers the period following the execution of Charles I focusing on the social and financial situation of the Ashburnham family. The thesis is concluded with the post-war settlement of Charles II with the Ashburnhams and the short-and-long term consequences on their family resulting from their involvement in the English Civil War.

Poetic Spaces of Memory (on Chosen Czech Poets of the Second Half of the 20th Century) Abstract The dissertation Poetic Spaces of Memory (on Chosen Czech Poets of the Second Half of the 20th Century) offers interpretations of six Czech poetic works of the second half of the 20th century, with focus on the perspective of cultural memory. Chosen poetic works represent synecdoches of poetic description of (general) historical events and experience that are connected with the time during the World War II (the Nazi regime) and with communist regime after 1948 and to some extent are connected with spatial dimension - be it poetic reflection of space which is modelled on a phenomenon from real, "topical" world, be it (completely) imaginary description of space. Methodology of this dissertation is based on the concept of cultural memory by Aleida Assmann, particularly as presented in her book Cultural Memory and Western Civilization. St Vitus' Cathedral in Prague: Liturgy, Symbolism and Architectural Imitation in Medieval Bohemia In this thesis, the focus is put on the Wenceslas Chapel in St Vitus' Cathedral, the unusual design of which seems to have two levels of meanings: On the one hand, it was probably designed as a recreation of an earlier rotunda that had been founded by St Wenceslas. On the other hand, it seems that the intention was made the chapel and the whole cathedral would resemble the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, where the Calvary Chapel occupied the same position as the Wenceslas Chapel. This was most likely inspired by presence of the Imperial insignia containing the valuable Passion relics that Charles had acquired in 1350 and placed in the basilica, probably near the Wenceslas Chapel. Perhaps from that reason Charles had the new Gothic chapel decorated with semi-precious stones, because its red spots were associated with the blood of Christ and the Passion. The Wenceslas Chapel together with two Passion chapels at Karlstein Castle, containing Charles IV's private passion treasure, gave rise to the "Passion" architecture of the Luxembourg period. This thesis focuses on the image of Emperor and King Charles IV of Luxembourg in the Czech humanistic historiography of the 16th century. Firstly, the sources of this work and literature dedicated to the topic are introduced. The genre of the chronicle, history and historical chronicle are defined and are supported by academic literature. Following, humanism in the Czech and European environment is further discussed. The history of humanistic literature in a Czech environment and the history of humanistic historiography of this area are also presented. The main focus is dedicated to authors and their work, specifically those that are the sources of this thesis. Work such as Aeneas Silvius Bartholomeus Piccolomini (pope Pius II), his work Historia Bohemica and his three early modern history translations into the Czech language, done by Jan Húska, Mikuláš Konáč of Hodiškov and Daniel Adam of Veleslavín. Authors who have also published it in his book Kroniky dvě o založení země české. Work which also included an introduction written by him, that is further discussed in the thesis.
