Karriärsavslut bland idrottare har länge studerats inom idrottsvetenskapen och inom ishockeyn har skador, främst hjärnskakningar, och stor fysisk och psykisk påfrestning rapporterats av media som bakomliggande faktorer till avslut. Denna undersökning syftade till att undersöka av vilka anledningar ishockeyspelare slutar och om dessa anledningar kan kopplas till teorin om KASAM – Känslan av sammanhang. För att söka svar på detta intervjuades sex forna ishockeyspelare med en semi-strukturerad intervjuguide. Resultatet från denna studie visade att skador, att vilja fokusera på livet efter karriären eller på grund av att inte kunna vara sig själv i den miljön var anledningar till karriärsavslut för ishockeyspelare. Bakgrunden till avsluten var dock komplexa men kunde i relativt hög grad anses kopplas till teorin om KASAM och de tre komponenterna. Precis som de tre komponenterna går in i varandra kunde även avsluten i sig anses grunda i olika påverkande faktorer som sammanvägda ledde till avslut. / For a long time, the end of the career among athletes has been a question of interest among scientists in the field of sports science and in ice hockey, injuries, mainly concussions, and physical and mental stress have been reported by the media as underlying factors. This study aimed to investigate underlying factors and wheter these factors are related to the theory of SOC – Sense of Coherence. Six former ice hockey players were interviwed, with a semistructured interview guide as a tool, to seek an answer to the purpose of the study. The results from this study showed that injuries, a will to focus on the life after the career and a feeling of not being able to be yourself in that enviroment were underlying factors to the end of the career among ice hockey players. The background of the endings were complex but they could be related to the theory of SOC and the three components. Just like the three components can be linked to each other, different factors seemed to constitute the actual reasons for leavning icehockey.
