Tensory a jejich aplikace v mechanice / Tensors and their applications in mechanics

The tensor theory is a branch of Multilinear Algebra that describes the relationship between sets of algebraic objects related to a vector space. Tensor theory together with tensor analysis is usually known to be tensor calculus. This thesis presents a formal category treatment on tensor notation, tensor calculus, and differential manifold. The focus lies mainly on acquiring and understanding the basic concepts of tensors and the operations over them. It looks at how tensor is adapted to differential geometry and continuum mechanics. In particular, it focuses more attention on the application parts of mechanics such as; configuration and deformation, tensor deformation, continuum kinematics, Gauss, and Stokes' theorem with their applications. Finally, it discusses the concept of surface forces and stress vector.

Changes in Acoustic and Kinematic Articulatory Working Space Across Three Intensity Levels

The purpose of this study was to compare changes in acoustic and kinematic measures of articulation across soft, comfortable, and loud speech conditions. There were 19 participants, 9 male and 10 female, with age ranging from 20 to 34 with a median age of 25. Each participant had electromagnetic sensors glued to their tongue, jaw, and lips. It was anticipated that the acoustic measures would accurately reflect the kinematic measures of speech as articulation changed across the intensity levels. Vowel space area (VSA) and vowel articulation index (VAI) were computed from the three corner vowels, /α, i, u/. Articulatory-acoustic vowel space (AAVS), a sentence-level acoustic measure, was computed from the continuous formant histories for all voiced segments in a sentence. Kinematic-vowel space area (KVSA), kinematic-vowel articulation index (KVAI), and articulatory-kinematic vowel space (AKVS) were the kinematic equivalents of the acoustic measures, and were newly developed for the present study. Stroke metrics based on the speed history of the lingual movements were also used to reveal average kinematic features of the articulatory gestures in each participant's speech. The data revealed that the isolated acoustic and kinematic measures that used corner vowels (VSA, VAI. KVSA, KVAI) did not change significantly with intensity. The sentence-level continuous measures of articulatory working space (AAVS and AKVS) increased as speech intensity increased. The other sentence-level kinematic metrics also changed significantly with speech intensity, including increases in hull volume, onset speed, peak speed, mean speed, and distance. Stroke duration decreased as speech intensity increased. These findings suggest that measures based on isolated corner vowels are not as reflective as continuous measures of changes in articulatory movement in speech.

Motor Control during Amphibious Locomotion Changes Muscle Function in Polypterus Senegalus

Polypterus is an extant fish that is used as a model to understand the fin-to-limb evolutionary transition. Polypterus exhibits muscle phenotypes relevant to this transition. In particular, plastic changes in bone and muscle in Polypterus have been shown in response to spending time in a terrestrial environment. Muscle fiber changes are usually associated with changes in the performance demand placed on those muscles. We hypothesize that muscle fibers are recruited differently between aquatic and terrestrial environments to explain the change in fiber type. How pectoral fin muscle activity changes between swimming and walking is mostly unknown. Hence, this study utilizes electromyography (EMG) and high-speed videography to understand how the muscle activity pattern and function of all four pectoral fin muscle groups change during swimming and walking in aquatically raised fish. In this experiment, aquatically raised fish were placed in water and on land to observe changes in fin muscle function between behaviours. This study aims to understand how the instantaneous changes in the behaviour of the fish, particularly in the pectoral fin, could explain the muscle plasticity found in previous research. This study showed that fish adduct their pectoral fins much faster with increased muscle effort during walking compared to swimming. The adductor muscle also had the biggest change in function, activating for the majority of the fin-stroke cycle and therefore undergoing eccentric contraction. The increase in muscle effort seen in this study is consistent with the muscle fiber transition seen in fish that spend long periods on land, and the dramatic change of EMG magnitudes found in the adductor muscle may explain muscle damage previously found following acute walking.

Vyvážení tříválcového traktorového motoru / Balancing of 3-cylinder Tractor Engine

The thesis deals with analysis of balancing of given cranktrain. At the introductory part is solved kinematics of the crank mechanism. Another part of the text occupies with dynamics of the crank mechanism and eventuality of its balancing with using of point-mass model. This simplified model is utilized for analytic solution of given mechanism. Results of analytic solution are compared with results of MBS solution. At the last part is done analysis of minimal distance between the selected parts of the mechanism. Then simple optimization of balancing is done. At the end is considered balancing of the mechanism and simple improvement is proposed, considered are results of minimal distance analysis too.

Tato diplomová práce je věnována vývoji a analýze zavěšení Formule Student. V úvodu je představena mezinárodní soutěž Formula Student, její disciplíny a historie týmu TU Brno Racing a UH Racing. V teoretické části je detailní popis charakteristik pneumatiky, kinematický návrh zavěšení a aerodynamiky s ohledem na závodní vozy. V části věnované konstrukčnímu návrh je popis vývoje ramen zavěšení, vahadel a zadního stabilizátoru. Návrh kinematických charakteristik vozu Dragon 5 je detailně popsán a porovnán s předešlou variantou. Mimo vývoje kinematiky Dragon 5 je popsán vývoj vozu UH 18. Závěrečná kapitola detailně analyzuje zaznamenaná data z testování vozu Dragon 4.
