Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in the Chamber Version by Klaus Simon: Performance, Discussion, and Recording

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: The symphonies of Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911) constitute an essential element of the orchestral repertory; they are therefore essential for young conductors to understand and for instrumentalists to play. Yet they are impractical in many school situations because they call for large orchestras. One solution to this problem is for the conductor to study the original, full version of the works as Mahler composed them, but to consider performing one of the reduced instrumentations now available. A smaller-scale version provides an opportunity for both the conductor and the instrumentalists to confront the challenges of performing Mahler's music and to explore Mahler's musical language and style in a more manageable setting. This project focuses on Mahler's Fourth Symphony, which is available in two reduced orchestrations: one by Erwin Stein made in 1921 and another by Klaus Simon from 2007. This paper is part of a larger project that includes a lecture-recital with commentary and a performance of the symphony in the more recent Simon arrangement (documented on video). It presents some background on Mahler's Fourth Symphony and compares the two reduced instrumentations to Mahler's original and to one another. Taken together, the parts of this project demonstrate an approach to learning and performing Mahler's music in a more accessible and practical setting for student conductors. / Dissertation/Thesis / Video recording on Lecture Recital: Mahler symphony No.4, Arr. Po stopách trinitární christologie: Christologická analýza vybraných textů Klause Hemmerleho v kontextu jeho života a působení / Towards the trinitarian christology: Christological analysis of Klaus Hemmerle's writings in the context of his life and work

Fiedler, Eduard January 2018 (has links)
The primary aim of this thesis "Towards the trinitarian christology: Christological analysis of Klaus Hemmerle's writings in the context of his life and work" is to concern the most important christological themes of Klaus Hemmerle's (1929-1994) philosophical and theological work. At the same time, in the context of author's life and work the debate over the way metaphysics and christology relate to each other will be taken into account. Hemmerle's most known essay "Theses for a Trinitarian Ontology" (Thesen zu einer trinitarischen Ontologie) deals with the problem of new genuinely christian trinitarian ontology. The christological assumptions of this approach will be discussed in our thesis.

Srovnání dvou českých překladů románu Mephisto od Klause Manna / Comparison of two Czech Translations of Mephisto by Klaus Mann

Javůrková, Lenka January 2018 (has links)
This thesis focuses on comparing two Czech translations of Klaus Mann's novel Mephisto. The first translation was issued in 1937, the second translation in 1962 and later re-issued in 1984, 1986, 2000, 2004 a 2008. After an introduction summarizing the author's life and the novel's troubled fate after World War II, the focus shifts to the selected Czech translation and their background. The attention is paid to their respective translators and first publishing houses. Subsequently, the translations are subjected to a descriptive analysis. Inspired by Katharina Reiß, we include both extra- and intra-linguistic phenomena, also using categories first introduced by Czechoslovak translation scholars Jiří Levý and Anton Popovič. The approaches of both Mephisto translators are not only compared, but also contextualized within the translation methods framework and its development in Czechoslovakia, especially the so-called Otokar Fischer's school. After presenting a selection of translation scholars' views on ageing translations, we debate if the analyzed translations are obsolete or not. Lastly, we take into account possible other (extra-linguistic/pragmatic) reasons for the publishing disproportion between the selected translations. Key words: Klaus Mann, Mephisto, comparing translations, translation...

Politická vize V. Klause / Political vision of V. Klaus

Binar, Martin January 2012 (has links)
The thesis analyses the thinking of Václav Klaus based on clashes with his rivals during his political career. The thesis works with hypothesis that Klaus is in this thinking connected with New Right, which was mainly present in world politics by Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Values of Klaus are first analysed theoretically via analysis of conservatism, liberalism and finally their synthesis in so called New Right. Next part of the thesis provided evidence for hypothesis on national level, where Klaus was minister of finance and prime minister and third part on international level with Klaus as president of Czech republic. The hypothesis is confirmed at the end by summarizing evidence, which arose from particular chapters.

Česká republika a Spojené království: srovnání euroskepticismu. / The Czech Republic and the UK, a Eurosceptic comparison.

Gata-Aura, Navraj January 2017 (has links)
Euroscepticism has recently started to enjoy a renaissance, boasting many different works in different formats whether it be a comparative study of two European countries or, investigating Euroscepticism in different national contexts to account for possible variations of Euroscepticism. This work aims to show the contrary. Using country case studies of the Czech Republic and the UK this paper shows that regardless of temporal differences and differences in national contexts, Euroscepticism is intrinsically linked to some lines of argument concerning economy and democracy.

Chronická nevinnost: queer čtení / Chronic innocence: A queer reading

Stanjurová, Martina January 2019 (has links)
Bc. Martina Stanjurová The Chronic Innocence: A Queer Reading Abstract: The Master's thesis analyses Klaus Rifbjerg's novel The Chronic Innocence (1958), one of the central works of the Danish literature. The analysis is carried out from the gender studies perspective, namely through the principles of the post structuralist queer theories. The thesis deals with the analysis of the dynamics of the relationship between the central figures, the narrator Janus and his classmate Tore. By using the queer reading method, the thesis unveils how the narrator expresses and conceals his platonic fascination for the friend. Moreover, the thesis tries to explain the essence of the narrator's relationship to the female figures, which shows misogynic traits.
