The target of this diploma thesis is design of cogeneration unit with following requirements: • Installation of new unit instead of the old and used up one. • Electric energy supply within Supportive service – fast starts • Greening (replacement of coal with natural gas) At the beginning I deal with the current state of old unit. In the next part there is the design of new technological unit, which consists of design of boilers, gas engines, steam turbines. Final phase of the thesis includes economical analysis focused on setting of financial return.

The thesis is dedicated to the design of the steam boiler which burns wood chips, with a natural circulation of the water. It is a grate boiler, which produces 20 t/h of the steam. The output parameters of the steam are 420 °C and 5 MPa. The feedwater temperature is 125 ° C .The thesis gradually deals with stoichiometric calculations and determines the efficiency of the boiler. Then it describes the design of the fireplace and thermal calculations of each heat transfer surfaces. The appendix includes drawings of the boiler.

The calculation includes stoichiometry, determinination of the boiler efficiency, steam production rate and heating surfaces sizing. This thesis also includes technical documentation of designed gas boiler. The calculation of the boiler meets the values specified by the scripts and also by documentation from PBS. The boiler was designed for 113.9 MW and 93.77 % efficiency.

For the specified parameters of biomass have been gradually implemented stoichiometric calculations of which are further based calculation of enthalpies of combustion gas. In the next part have been dealt with heat balance of the boiler, the efficiency of the boiler, recirculation of exhaust gases and the temperature of the combustion gases in outlet from fire. Thereinafter, the proposal of particular heat surfaces of steam boiler was solved, so that the resulting number and size correspond to the desired parameters. The parameters are temperature, pressure and the amount of steam.
