The acquisition of writing for a Speech Therapy affected by Psychoanalysis

No. of bitstreams: 1 Juliana Cristina Alves de Andrade.pdf: 744802 bytes, checksum: 89125b2536fd72a81b1720f33979dfff (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-02-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Introduction: letters are present in the universe of the subject even before his birth. When desired, the baby is previously spoken by a speech / writing, so that his symbolic presence precedes his physical presence in the world. It s possible to say that the child is both spoken and written by the "Other", "Other" which Lacan refers to as the treasury of signifiers in which the speaking subject is immersed. Objective: To propose a model of acquisition of writing before its formalization by the child, it another view: that writing emerges before the formal encounter between the child and the letters. Method: qualitative research that is supported on one side, by studies in the field of language acquisition represented mainly by Claudia De Lemos and on the other, by notions of trace, letter and writing as understood by psychoanalysis studies of Freud, Lacan and Allouch. Some of the data from this literature were reread in order to trace the entry of the child in the alphabetic speech. Results: the analyzed material indicated the presence of pre-literate traces, or rather a writing system that indicates the child's subjection to the Other, to their capture by language in both oral and written form. Conclusion: writing takes a special place in the functioning of language, and the contact with oral and writing speeches opens the entry of the child to "letters". The speech therapist must interpret the marks left by the child, not only as scribbles, but as indicative marks of a singular process of acquisition of the written form of language. Thus, withdraws the denial of knowledge and returns the writing-subject position to the child, that separates from the alienation to the trace of the other, to take the position of reader / writer / Introdução: as letras estão presentes no universo do sujeito mesmo antes do seu nascimento.

Kännedom om och handhavande av Vocal Cord Dysfunction : bland logopeder och läkare i Sverige / Knowledge and management of Vocal Cord Dysfunction : among speech-language pathologists and physicians in Sweden

Björkheden, Tove, Gudmundsson, Elin, Nordlund, Charlotta January 2009 (has links)
Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD) is characterized by paradoxical vocal cord movement during inspiration or expiration, and generally affects adolescents and predominantly women. Previous studies have shown a large inconsistency concerning terminology, definitions, etiology, assessment, differential diagnosis, co-morbidity and treatment. The purpose of this study was to map knowledge on and management of VCD in Sweden. The study was conducted as a written survey addressed to speech-language pathologists and physicians, and attained an answer percentage of 79 percent. The results showed that several professions were involved in the management of these patients, but no clear pattern of referral could be observed. The majority of the respondents considered intense physical exertion and psychological stress as triggering factors for VCD. Despite this, referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist seldom occurred. Asthma was the most frequent diagnosis regarding co-morbidity, and also the most frequent misdiagnosis. Respiratory exercises, relaxation and information about the diagnosis generally form the basis of VCD treatment. Physicians rated their knowledge on VCD greater compared to the speech-language pathologists. Several of the respondents stated that an increase in knowledge and awareness among nursing staff had contributed to an increase of patients with suspected or confirmed VCD. This study showed that there was no consensus regarding assessment, co-morbidity, misdiagnosis and treatment of VCD among speech-language pathologists and physicians in Sweden.

Self-Disclosure by Mexican-American Women: The Effects of Acculturation and Language of Therapy

Cortese, Margaret 12 1900 (has links)
The present study proposed to investigate the effects of level of acculturation and of language of the therapy interview on self-disclosure by Mexican-American women. It was predicted that self-disclosure would be affected by both level of acculturation and by the language of the initial therapy interview. The principal implication of this finding is that for the first-generation Mexican-American woman, that is, a woman who has not acculturated to the mainstream society, the language in which therapy is conducted constitutes a significant factor in predicting whether she is likely to self disclose and thereby benefit from the therapy. The findings of this study suggest that less acculturated Mexican-American women would be more likely to utilize mental health services if they are available in Spanish.
