The thesis titled Development of Lecturers of Lifelong Learning for Healthcare Professionals examines the impact of development and education of workers in an organisation on the factors influencing professional behaviour. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the terms pertinent to the personnel-related activities of each organisation in the field of human resource management and is focused particularly on development and education. It analyses the specifics of this field regarding educators and more detailed attention is paid to the specific selected group of lecturers engaged in educating eye care professionals in contactology. The research part of the thesis concentrates on verifying the research assumption, which is the favourable impact of development and education of workers on their professional results and on the factors influencing their behaviour. This part of the thesis contains a quantitative survey carried out using the questionnaire method and semi-structured interviews with the lecturers and executives of selected organisations. Subsequently, it presents the outcomes of the given survey, which are also analysed, along with identification of strengths and weaknesses. The diploma theses deals with the concept leadership, the concept learning organisation and their reciprocel relationship, specificaly about function leadership in the learning organisation. The theses defines, observes and researches these two phenomenas in the segment of education, specificaly in schools related to programm "The leader in me" both in the Czech Republic and abroad - the Netherlands. Leadership mentioned in this work represent the 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey as the main tool. Die verband tussen lokus van beheer, transformasionele leierskap en bestuursukses

The primary aim of this research was to determine whether there is a relation between locus of control, transformational leadership and management success. One hundred and one shift overseers completed selfevaluation questionnaires on locus of control and transformational leadership. Thereafter, in turn, the managers completed evaluation questionnaires on the work performance of the shift overseers. The Pearson correlation coefficient showed statistically significant interrelations between internal locus of control, autonomy and transformational leadership. The three scales of management success also showed a strong positive correlation. Canonical correlations indicated that only one variant could be interpreted and that high internal control and high autonomy are associated with high transformational leadership and laissez faire leadership style. According to the literature overview, a positive relation exists between internal locus of control, transformational leadership and management success as well as organisational performance. An attempt is made to account for these diverse findings in terms of the relevance of a performance model within an organisational context. / Die primere doel van hierdie navorsingstudie was om te bepaalof daar 'n verband is tussen lokus van beheer, transformasionele leierskap en bestuursukses. Eenhonderd en een skoftoesighouers het selfbeoordelings-vraelyste oor lokus van beheer en transformasionele leierskap voltooi. Daarna het die bestuurders beoordelingsvraelyste oor die skoftoesighouers se werksprestasie voltooi. Die Pearson korrelasietoets het getoon dat daar statisties beduidende verbande is tussen interne lokus van beheer, outonomie en transformasionele leierskap. Die drie skate van bestuursukses het onderling sterk positief gekorrelleer. Kanoniese korrelasies het aangedui dat slegs een variaat interpreteer kan word en dat hoe interne beheer en hoe outonomie geassosieer is met hoe transformasionele leierskap en lae laissez faire-leierskapstyl. Die literatuurstudie het getoon dat daar 'n positiewe verband is tussen interne lokus van beheer, transformasionele leierskap en bestuursukses asook organisasie-prestasie. Critical issues impacting on skills development in the Department of Public Service and Administration: trends and options

This study is an in-depth overview of the critical issues impacting on skills development in the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA). The South African Public Service consists of individuals with their own potential and career paths. The thesis has convincingly argued that managers in the Public Service need to align the potential of their employees with organisational strategies and policies. The study has shown that the training of employees becomes a necessity when departments want to keep track and meet the expectations of their internal and external environments. The thesis proposes and has proven that an integrated approach to human resource development through the process of performance management is a vital requirement, which is critical for skills acquisition. The study, further, notes that if performance management is implemented appropriately, a viable learning organisation could be created. Linking the system of performance management with the learning organisation offers a unique perspective on integrated human resource management, and thus, an important contribution is made to understanding the theory of Public Administration as it applies to skills development. This thesis propounds the notion that evaluation seems to be the missing link in training and development of human resources in the DPSA. Research clearly indicates that the only way to ensure that training priorities are met is to make training evaluation part of the design of a training course. The model proposed in this thesis, for the evaluation of training, entails adding value to both individual and departmental performance. Detail reviews from this thesis, which are supported by both quantitative and qualitative imperatives, suggest that it now becomes essential that senior management initiates a process where individual positions, their importance and contributions, are aligned with the effective and efficient realisation of departmental strategies. Knowledge management practices at the Department of Defence in South Africa

Defence organisations have now significantly developed and in the process they have applied various measures to sustain their progresses and encourage innovation. One of those measures is by embarking on KM programs. KM in military is seen as a strategic approach to achieving defense objectives by leveraging the value of collective knowledge through the process of creating, gathering, organizing, sharing and transferring knowledge into action. It is through proper knowledge management practices that an organisation embraces and manages its knowledge generation, knowledge acquisition, knowledge organisation, knowledge storage, transfer, knowledge sharing, and knowledge retention. The purpose of this study was to investigate knowledge management practices in the Department of Defence (RSA). The objective of the study was to find out how the department appreciates, understands, interprets and handles its knowledge. This study employed triangulation method to present trustworthiness of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches using positivist research design. Questionnaires, interviews and document analysis were employed to collect data. In order to arrive at the number of participants who received the questionnaires, a probability sampling method called stratified random sampling was used as well as purposive sampling. When setting up a study, it was essential to review the research identified in the literature review and to determine whether there is anything relevant to the research design of the proposed study. The study found that knowledge management was hardly understood generally in the department and was not an approach used and institutionalised for the benefit of the organisation. However there was embedded knowledge management appreciation from a few staff members in the department, only managing their own knowledge regarding learning, capturing and storage. Additionally there is a significant number of staff members who believe knowledge management is a way to go in the future and strongly believe their Defence Department needs to adopt a comprehensive and inclusive KM approach. / Information Science / M.A. (Information Science)

Managing the continuing professional development of lecturers in a Mpumalanga technical and vocational education and training college

The aim of this research is to find out if a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college in Mpumalanga, South Africa has any CPD programme for its lecturers and how it is managed. Through personal experience, interaction with fellow lecturers and literature review, I noted the evident lack of college-driven continuous professional development (CPD) of lecturers. I discovered that most TVET college lecturers are holders of teaching qualifications suitable for schools and not the TVET college sector. The research was qualitative. I conducted in-depth interviews with the senior management of the college, a focus group interview with lecturers and finally document analysis. Data analysis was inductive and verbatim quotations from participants were used. I found that although the college did have a CPD programme, there were many shortcomings. Strengths of the programme include funding and a planned CPD committee. Deficiencies relate to non-communication between staff members and management and a laissez-faire attitude of management in the handling of CPD. Based on the findings numerous recommendations are made concerning the way CPD is managed at this college and by the Department of Higher Education. Knowledge retention at a platinum mine in the North West Province of South Africa

Knowledge retention plays an important role in combating organisational knowledge loss. However, some organisations, including mining companies, still lose organisational knowledge due to employees retiring, resigning, downsizing, attrition and so on. This leaves the companies with a shortage of qualified and senior, experienced employees to meet production needs, which has a negative impact on the running of the operational functions on a day-to-day basis. This qualitative study utilised the knowledge-retention model as a theoretical framework to investigate knowledge-retention strategies at a platinum mine in the North West province in South Africa. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 10 employees of the platinum mine in North West province who were chosen purposively, as well as organisational document review. The key findings revealed that although the mine has a knowledge-retention policy, some of the employees are not aware of its existence and there is no enough investment in knowledge-retention initiatives within the organisation. The study concludes by arguing that having knowledge retention policy, strategies and initiatives on paper but failing to implement is as good as not having it. The study recommends that management become involved, support knowledge-retention initiatives, and ensure that knowledge retention policy is implemented in the organisation. / Information Science / M.A. (Information Science)

The subject of the thesis "Aspects of corporate culture from the viewpoint of Christian ethics" is to analyze the phenomenon of corporate culture in the perspective of Christian ethics and the requirements of sustainable development as the basic prerequisite for sustainable development of life on Earth. An integral part of the research is to explore the terms under which employees are willing not only to meet the tasks set by their employers, but also provide their best abilities and skills for the good of their enterprise. "Learning organization", Christian ethics in the organization and the principles of sustainability are the three discourses which are involved. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the theoretical knowledge about corporate culture and its meaning, its specific type of "learning organization", Christian ethics and especially the Catholic morality applied in terms of business administration while respecting sustainability for quality of life and the environment.
