Tableau d’honneur de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales, 2012-2013. / Nous avons mis en évidence l'efficacité du triflate de gallium Ga(OTf)₃ comme catalyseur de la réaction de Mukaiyama aldol non énantiosélective. Une vaste gamme de cétones ß-hydroxylées a été préparée dans des conditions réactionnelles douces avec de très faibles charges catalytiques (0.2-1.0 mol %). Par la suite, nous avons utilisé ce catalyseur pour tenter de développer une version énantiosélective de cette réaction en conditions aqueuses. Nous avons également développé et étudié la première réaction d'allylation de Sakurai énantiosélective catalysée par un complexe chiral de bismuth. Les alcools homoallyliques ont été obtenus avec d'excellentes énantiosélectivités. Une attention particulière a été menée à l'identification des espèces catalytiques impliquées dans le processus. Un grand nombre de ligands chiraux à symétrie C₂ de type diamine a été synthétisé et utilisé pour des réactions de Mukaiyama aldol en conditions aqueuses catalysées par Sc(OTf)₃ ou des réactions des Henry catalysées par Cu(OAc)₂. Enfin, nous avons développé un complexe chiral bipyridine-Fe(II) efficace pour la catalyse asymétrique de plusieurs réactions. Tout d'abord, ce complexe a été utilisé pour la réaction de Mukaiyama aldol en conditions aqueuses. D'excellents rendements, diastéréosélectivités et énantiosélectivités ont été obtenus pour une large gamme d'aldéhydes (aromatiques, hétéroaromatiques, aliphatiques). Cette réaction a l'avantage d'utiliser de faibles charges catalytiques d'un acide de Lewis peu coûteux et non toxique en conditions aqueuses. Nous avons finalement mis au point une poudre catalytique prête à l'emploi qui a permis de simplifier nos conditions réactionnelles, rendant notre méthode attractive pour son utilisation au niveau industriel. Ce même complexe de fer a également été utilisé pour des réactions d'ouverture d'époxydes méso par des anilines et des indoles. D'excellentes énantiosélectivités ont pu être atteintes dans des conditions réactionnelles douces. Ces réactions ont l'avantage d'être très économiques en termes d'atomes puisque très peu de déchets sont formés à la fin de la réaction. Plusieurs méthodes d'analyse nous ont permis de caractériser l'espèce catalytique impliquée dans ces réactions et de proposer des modèles d'état de transition qui expliquent les sélectivités obtenues.

C.S. Lewis and Philip Pullman are two very popular authors of British Children's Fantasy. Their books The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and The Golden Compass straddle the period of writing that Karen Patricia Smith calls the Dynamic Stage of British Fantasy: from 1950 to the present. Both of these books are part of a larger series and both have been made into recent motion pictures by Hollywood. This paper explores these two books through the lens of their conventional and progressive authors. I discuss in detail the gifts that the heroes and heroines are given, the setting of these books, and the function of destiny and prophecy in order to explore the irony of these books: C.S. Lewis, often viewed as the more conventional author by scholars, is in fact more progressive than his contemporary counterpart. / Master of Arts

Rabbit antisera directed against human milk sialyloligosaccharides were used to detect specific monosialylgangliosides from the lipid fraction of human meconium. Gangliosides of this fraction were detected after thin layer chromatography by immuno-staining with specific anti-oligosaccharide sera. The monosialylganglioside fraction of human meconium was subjected to ozonolysis and alkali-fragmentation and the resulting ganglioside-derived oligosaccharides were reduced with NaB [³H]₄ and partially separated using paper chromatography. The [³H]-oligosaccharide alditols were assayed for binding to specific anti-oligosaccharide sera in a direct-binding radioimmunoassay using nitrocellulose filters to collect immune-complexes. Radiolabeled oligosaccharide alditols which were recognized by specific antisera were affinity purified by eluting nitrocelIulose filters containing antibody-oligosaccharide complexes or using columns of immobilized anti-oligosaccharide antibodies. Structural analyses of two sialyl[³H]tetrasaccharide alditols obtained in this way were carried out with sequential enzymatic degradation using specific exoglycosidases. The products of enzymatic digestions were identified by cochromatography in paper with known standards. Data obtained from these experiments are consistent with the presence of the following, previously unidentified gangliosides in human meconium: NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-3GlcNAcβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc-cer Galβ1-3[NeuAcα2-6]GlcNAcα1-3Galβ1-4Glc-cer / Ph. D.
