Developing a Components List for a Shoe Repair Kit for Leather Sneakers, Designed for Consumer Use

Gustafsson, Izabell, Nordholm, Ellen January 2023 (has links)
This thesis is being conducted by two final year Bachelor degree students, collaborating with a Swedish fashion brand producing leather sneakers with the aim to investigate the most common wear and tear of shoes in metropolitan and suburban environments. Shoes are readily known for having a relatively short product lifecycle and with few alternatives to prolong the materials usefulness at the end. Furthermore consumers find that the main problems that make them not want to repair, are mainly financial reasons and a lack of knowledge in repair methods. This study has conducted a survey to gain information of the most common wear and tears regarding shoes in order to meet what the consumers want for products in a repair kit. The study involved a qualitative interview about material expertise about the shoes used in this study with selected and qualified respondents from the fashion brand company. The data collected was sufficient to create a product list for a repair-kit and shows a PU-solution to repair damaged leather, heel patches to repair ripped lining, a cyanoacrylate glue to mend detached/broken outsoles and an informational manual should be the main components for the repair kit. This study is designed to work as a future recommendation specification of requirements to the company this study is collaborating with to prolong the time of usage for the shoes.

Lifetime Measurements of Excited States in the Semi-Magic Nucleus 94Ru

Ertoprak, Aysegul January 2017 (has links)
Lifetimes of highly excited states in the semi-magic (N=50) nucleus 94Ru were deduced from an analysis of the Doppler broadened transition line shapes. Excited states in 94Ru were populated in the 58Ni(40Ca, 4p)94Ru∗ fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex situated in Caen, France. Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM) lifetime analysis was performed on the Doppler broadened peaks in energy spectra from γ-rays emitted while the residual nuclei were slowing down in a thick 6 mg/cm2 metallic 58Ni target. In total eight excited-state lifetimes in the angular momentum range I = (13 − 20)ħ have been measured, five of which were determined for the first time. The deduced corresponding B(M1) and B(E2) reduced transition strengths are discussed within the framework of large-scale shell model calculations. /
QC 20171110

I-SEP: An Improved Routing Protocol for Heterogeneous WSN for IoT-Based Environmental Monitoring

Behera, Trupti Mayee, Mohapatra, Sushanta Kumar, Samal, Umesh Chandra, Khan, Mohammad S., Daneshmand, Mahmoud, Gandomi, Amir H. 01 January 2020 (has links)
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is a virtual layer in the paradigm of the Internet of Things (IoT). It inter-relates information associated with the physical domain to the IoT drove computational systems. WSN provides an ubiquitous access to location, the status of different entities of the environment, and data acquisition for long-term IoT monitoring. Since energy is a major constraint in the design process of a WSN, recent advances have led to project various energy-efficient protocols. Routing of data involves energy expenditure in considerable amount. In recent times, various heuristic clustering protocols have been discussed to solve the purpose. This article is an improvement of the existing stable election protocol (SEP) that implements a threshold-based cluster head (CH) selection for a heterogeneous network. The threshold maintains uniform energy distribution between member and CH nodes. The sensor nodes are also categorized into three different types called normal, intermediate, and advanced depending on the initial energy supply to distribute the network load evenly. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme outperforms SEP and DEEC protocols with an improvement of 300% in network lifetime and 56% in throughput.

Techniques to Characterize Vapor Cell Performance for a Nuclear-Magnetic-Resonance Gyroscope

Mirijanian, James Julian 01 May 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Research was performed to improve the procedures for testing performance parameters of vapor cells for a nuclear-magnetic-resonance gyroscope. In addition to summarizing the theoretical infrastructure of the technology, this research resulted in the development and successful implementation of new techniques to characterize gyro cell performance. One of the most important parameters to measure for gyro performance is the longitudinal spin lifetime of polarized xenon atoms in the vapor cell. The newly implemented technique for measuring these lifetimes matches results from the industry standard method to within 3.5% error while reducing the average testing time by 76% and increasing data resolution by 54%. The vapor cell test methods were appended with new software to expedite the analysis of test data and to investigate more subtle details of the results; one of the two isotopes of xenon in the cells tends to exhibit troublesome second-order effects during these tests due to electric-quadrupole coupling, but now the added analysis capabilities can accurately extract relevant results from such data with no extra effort. Some extraneous lifetime measurement techniques were explored with less substantial results, but they provided useful insight into the complex workings of the gyro cell test system. New criteria were established to define the signal to noise ratio on a consistent basis from cell to cell across various parameters such as cell volume, temperature, and vapor pressure. A technique for measuring gas pressures inside the sealed cells helped link cell performance to cell development processes. This led to informed decisions on filling and sealing methods that consistently yielded cells with better performance in the last few months of this work. When this research began, cells with xenon lifetimes over ten seconds were rare in our lab; by the end, anything under 30 seconds was a disappointment. Not only did the test procedures improve, but so did the parameters being tested, and quite significantly at that. At the same time, many new avenues for continued progress have been opened; the work presented here, while instrumental, is only the beginning.

Prediction of battery lifetime using early cycle data : A data driven approach

Enholm, Isabelle, Valfridsson, Olivia January 2022 (has links)
A form of laboratory tests are performed to determine battery degradation due to charging and discharging of batteries (cycling). This is done as part of quality assurance in battery production since a certain amount of degradation corresponds to the end of the battery lifetime. Currently, this requires a significant amount of cycling. Thus, if it’s possible to decrease the number of cycles required, the time and costs for battery degradation testing can be reduced. The aim of this thesis is therefore to create a model for prediction of battery lifetime while using early cycle data. Further, to assist planning regarding scale of cycle testing this study aims to examine the impact of implementing such a prediction model in production. To examine which data driven model that should be used to predict the battery lifetime at the company, extensive feature engineering is performed where measurements from specific cycles are used, inspired by the previous work of Severson et al. (2019) and Fei et al. (2021). Two models are then examined: Linear Regression with Elastic net and Support Vector Regression. To investigate the extent to which an implementation of such a model can affect battery testing capacity, two scenarios are compared. The first scenario is that of the current cycle testing at the company and the second scenario involves implementing a prediction model. The comparison then examines the time required for battery testing and the number of machines to cycle the batteries (cyclers). Based on the results obtained, the data driven model that should be implemented is a Support Vector Regression model with features relating to different battery cycling phases or measurements, such as charge process, temperature and capacity. It can also be shown that if a battery lifetime prediction model is implemented, it can reduce the time and number of cyclers required for testing with approximately 93 %, compared to traditional testing.
