Čtenářské strategie v předškolním vzdělávání / Reading Strategies in Preschool Education

Koželuhová, Eva January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to clarify how nursery teachers develop children's comprehension of the text read aloud and how they evaluate the possibility of using reading strategies to support children's comprehension during reading. In the theoretical part, I focused on defining the concept of reading literacy and pre-literacy, approaching the concept of the development of reading pre-literacy in the Czech Republic and clarifying the concept of comprehension of the text. Subsequently, I dealt with the issue of reading strategies and introduced those that are suitable for use in preschool age. In the empirical part, I used the qualitative approach of a multi-case study, which involved eight kindergarten teachers. Through in-depth interviews, repeated observation of the teachers' work with the text and subsequent analysis of video recordings of this work, answers to research questions were sought. It has been shown that teachers intend to develop children's comprehension, but only on a literal level, their work with texts is intuitive, without setting specific goals and monitoring the degree of their achievement. It turned out that reading strategies require a willingness of the teacher to work with them regularly and purposefully and to prepare for reading, which does not correspond to the prevailing...

Podpora čtenářství u žáků s dyslexií na druhém stupni základní školy / Supporting Reading of Pupils with Dyslexia in Secondary Schools

Horáková, Barbora January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of reading of the pupils with dyslexia and the possible support. It is focused on the methods of support and the strategies used by their teachers to develop reading of dyslectic pupils. In the first part, there is a theoretical definition of dyslexia, distinctive features of this diagnosis, diagnostic and education of dyslectic pupils. Further, reading is discussed from a theoretical viewpoint. These two aspects are interconnected and other factors like teaching, the teacher or the personality of the child come in. Then we deal with the methods that can help to improve the level of reading. The fundamental part is dedicated to the methods used for the support and positive influence on dyslectic pupils' reading. The thesis offers suggestions and inspiration for future and current teachers how to approximate reading to their dyslectic pupils. It also deals with some problems occurring in the profession. The aim of this diploma thesis was to learn what strategies teachers in lower- secondary schools use to develop reading literacy of their pupils with dyslexia. In the research, the qualitative method was applied and structured interviews with the lower-secondary teachers experienced in education of dyslectic children were utilized to get information. Research...

The master thesis is focused on the reading and reading literacy of studentes with specific reading difficulty - with Dyslexia. The target group are students of the second level of primary school. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of the specific learning difficulty, expecially on Dyslexia. It follows not only a general definition and an etiology but also diagnostics in school practice. The center of interest is mainly the support of this group of pupils at school. This text presents the charakteristics of the reading skills and reading and reading literacy that contribute to school success. The thesis is to investigace the support of the reading at primary school. The empirical part is based on the analysis of the quantitative research data. The research focuses on the concept of reading, which is aimed at students of the second level of primary school, while the actual analysis follows possible nuances in the self-assessment component of the students representing the norm and students with Dyslexia. The aim of the research is to capture the current relationship of students to reading with regard to the nature of the support provided. The results of the survey correspond to theoretical findings from professional sources - pupils with dyslexia often consider themselves as weaker...

No. of bitstreams: 1 Ana Cristina Fonseca.pdf: 1411916 bytes, checksum: 430c126b2ad1fac0272c3fa9e10e205c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-10-04 / This study aims to analyze and understand the pedagogical practices of early childhood education related to the development of mathematical concepts to children five years of a municipal public school Campinas and reflections and approximations of these practices in the 1st year of elementary school . We present first a theoretical approach on child development , conceptions of childhood and play. Also our studies on mathematics in early childhood and the difficulties encountered in working on mathematical literacy and inclusion of meaningful activities that allow the construction of the concept of number by children . This study attempts to print meaning to the knowledge needed for school children , in the relations of learning mathematical concepts and implications for the continuity of the same in the early years of elementary school. Participated as research subjects a teacher Cluster III Childhood Education and her students , a teacher of 1st year of elementary school and curriculum coordinator of the Municipal Education Campinas . Observed episodes of the work of a group of cluster III School of Early Childhood Education . The research problem thus announces : How knowledge / knowledge related to mathematics are developed in early childhood education rooms and how they are perceived by elementary school teachers ? The methodology was qualitative , which were used as methodological resources : 1 ) interviews about the participants' understanding of the work with mathematics in kindergarten , about the contributions of this work for the students of 1st year of elementary school and prospects that such work offers classes for 1st year . ; 2 ) observations of episodes of work with mathematics classroom grouping III . The analysis is given from three categories : Working with mathematics in kindergarten - conceptualization and planning ; Playing in Early Childhood Education - contributions to literacy ; Initial and continuing the teachers of kindergarten and the early years of elementary school - the challenges of mathematics . As a result of this investigation it is possible to say that the actions developed in early childhood education , specifically those related to mathematics , are still poorly considered in the work of the early years of elementary school and that there is still a lot to make efforts with regard to training teachers of kindergarten and the early years of elementary school in order to better prepare them to work with mathematics in these stages of basic education.

Exploring Concepts of Contagion and the Authority of Medical Treatises in 14th-16th Century England

Jones, Lori K 27 August 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines whether and how historians’ reliance on medical treatises has limited the historiography of contagion as it relates to fourteenth through sixteenth century England. It analyses the context, contents, audience, and codicology of six English tractates, four on the plague and two on the sweating sickness. Before the early seventeenth century, most English tractates were translations/adaptations of Continental works, with ‘uniquely English’ content added. Although the plague dominates studies of pre-modern disease, focusing on the plague hinders comparative analyses that can reveal much about contemporary understanding of contagion. The socio-political-professional contexts in which the tractates were written and disseminated affected their contents, circulation and, ultimately, audiences. Although largely ignored by historians, the tractates’ prefatory dedications, together with their codicology, reveals that the texts were likely accessible to non-elite audiences. Rather than being limited to its medical sense, contagion formed part of the larger discourse about the human condition.

Využití interaktivní tabule v hodinách literární výchovy na 1.stupni ZŠ / Use of the Interactive White Board in Literary education in the First Grade of Primary School

Šebková, Lucie January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is mapping options of the use of the interactive whiteboard in the introductory part of Literature lesson called the evocation, based on formulated findings of needs and interests of the prepubescent reader summarized in the theoretical part. The practical part consists in comparison of teaching with and without the use of the interactive whiteboard, while the lesson plans are conceived in E-U-R model. The undertaken research shows that work with the interactive whiteboard in Literary lessons increase pupils'motivation to predict, makes modelling of reading literacy methods easier, improve vizualization of problematic places in the text and offers unconventional effective way of sharing pupils'ideas and artefacts. The benefit of this work is finding effective ways of the use of the interactive whiteboard in Literature lessons especially in the evocation part of lesson.

Where do beginner readers read in the English, mainstream primary school and where could they read?

Dyer, Emma January 2018 (has links)
Where do beginner readers read in the English, mainstream primary school and where could they read? Emma Jane Dyer This thesis explores design for the beginner reader in Year One by evaluating existing spaces in the English primary school and imagining new ones. Three significant gaps identified in the literature of reading, the teaching of reading and school design are addressed: the impact of reading pedagogies, practices and routines on spatial arrangements for beginner readers inside and beyond the classroom; a theoretical understanding of the physical, bodily and sensory experience of the beginner reader; and the design of reading spaces by teaching staff. The study uses a design-oriented research methodology and framework proposed by Fällman. A designed artefact is a required outcome of the research: in this case, a child-sized, semi-enclosed book corner known as a nook. The research was organized in three phases. First, an initial design for the nook was created, based on multi-disciplinary, theoretical research about reading, school design and architecture. Secondly, empirical research using observation, pupil-led tours and interviews was undertaken in seven primary schools to determine the types of spaces where readers read: spaces that were often unsuitable for their needs. Thirdly, as a response to the findings of phases one and two, the nook was reconceived to offer a practical solution to poorly-designed furniture for reading in schools and to provoke further research about the ideal qualities of spaces for the beginner reader. The study demonstrates how the experience of the individual reader is affected by choices made about the national curriculum; by the size of schools and the spaces within them where readers can learn; by the design of classrooms by teachers; and by regulatory standards for teaching and non-teaching spaces. In developing a methodology that can stimulate and facilitate communication between architects, educators, policy-makers and readers, this thesis offers a valuable contribution to the ongoing challenge of improving school design for practitioners and pupils.

Rozvoj čtenářských dovedností v anglickém jazyce na 2. stupni základních škol (ve vztahu k rozvoji čtenářských dovedností v mateřském jazyce) / Developing Reading Skills in English in Lower Secondary School Pupils (in relation to the development of reading skills in their mother tongue)

PARÝZKOVÁ, Michaela January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis Developing Reading Skills in English in Lower Secondary School Pupils (in relation to the development of reading skills in their mother tongue) is focused on the possible ways how to develop reading skills in English and Czech language teaching by means of the coursebooks which are used at lower secondary schools. In the theoretical part there is a description of the reading skills in terms of reading literacy from the theoretical point of view. There is also a description of different kinds of reading strategies and reading purposes. These two aspects lead to reading with comprehension, which is one of the most important part of reading literacy in both languages. There are also described several types of methods and exercises that lead to development of reading skills. At the end of the theoretical part there are mentioned two types of international studies PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) and PIRLS. PISA assesses three key areas of knowledge and skills: reading, mathematical and science literacy in 15-year-old students. In the practical part there is a description of several types of texts, questions and reading skills that are included in the PISA study. I used the discriptions when analyzing texts, questions and reading skills in the coursebooks for the particular class. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to discover if it is possible to use the contents of the real coursebooks used in the eighth grade at lower secondary schools for developing reading skills that are examined in PISA and if the same techniques are used for developing reading skills in both languages if we know that it is possible and even reading in the foreign language is easier when we can transfer our reading skills from one language to another.
