His novels figure among the most awarded and approved by critics, dealing with themes as errant individuals living in a postmodern reality that is disturbingly chaotic. This thesis examines the representation of cities in three Buarque’s novels and their respective film adaptations: Estorvo (1991), Benjamim (1995) and Budapeste (2003). So, our research presents a comparative study of literary space within the literary and film productions of such works, using some contemporary theories related to post-modern reality, namely the concepts of Hybrid Identity by Stuart Hall, of Simulacrum by Jean Baudrillard and of Non-Place by Marc Augé to support our conclusions.
