A presente dissertação verifica a abordagem dos espaços periféricos a partir da análise poética da canção Subúrbio, de Chico Buarque (Carioca, 2006), com o fito de analisar o lugar de enunciação do sujeito poético. O presente estudo se propõe a fazer uma leitura de três romances de Chico Buarque, Estorvo, Benjamim e Budapeste. Para tanto, foram selecionadas três categorias para análise – o narrador, o personagem e a sociedade –, que foram estudadas a partir da análise das narrativas e, paralelamente, de alguns textos teóricos. O objetivo principal é investigar a visão do autor acerca da sociedade brasileira urbana atual e, além disso, identificar características que indicam unidade na obra do romancista. Para a realização dessa investigação, os três aspectos selecionados foram analisados com base em textos de Theodor W. Adorno, Roberto Schwarz, Edu Teruki Otsuka, entre outros. Após as pesquisas, foi possível perceber que a obra literária de Chico Buarque, embora não deva e não possa ser limitada a uma mera tentativa de retratar as mazelas da vida urbana contemporânea, nos faz refletir sobre seus diferentes níveis e aponta para uma visão pouco otimista a respeito do destino da sociedade. Não se pode deixar de lembrar que, sendo a literatura atravessada pela história de seu país, não há possibilidade de dissociar a obra de ficção do processo social que lhe dá forma. E, assim, identificamos a posição de destaque de Chico Buarque no quadro da literatura brasileira atual. / The present study offers a close reading of three novels by Chico Buarque, Estorvo, Benjamim and Budapeste. So, three categories were selected to be analyzed – the narrator, the character and the society –, which were studied through narrative analysis and, in a parallel way, theoretical texts. The main objective is to investigate the author’s view towards the present urban Brazilian society and, besides, to identify features that could indicate unity in the novelist’s work. In order to accomplish that, the three selected aspects were analyzed based on texts by Theodor W. Adorno, Roberto Schwarz, Edu Teruki Otsuka, among others. The research made possible to see that Chico Buarque’s literary work, although it should not be limited to a mere attempt to picture the wounds of the contemporary urban life, makes us reflect upon its different levels and points to a not very optimistic view about society’s destiny. We must remember that, being the literature crossed by its country’s history, there is no possibility of dissociating a work of fiction of the social process that gives it form. And, consequently, we identify Chico Buarque’s distinctive position in Brazilian literature.

[pt] O trabalho compara concepções de música popular, nação e camadas populares desenvolvidas em dois períodos da música popular brasileira: o de meados dos anos 1960, em que se construiu a idéia de MPB, e o atual, caracterizado por sonoridades oriundas das periferias de grandes cidades, muitas vezes denominadas comunidades por seus habitantes. Partindo das categorias musicais de Mário de Andrade criadas na década de 1920, analiso o contexto de formação da MPB como um momento de desenvolvimento do populário, em que se propôs uma estética que expressasse musicalmente o Brasil. Em 67, a Tropicália, questionando os fundamentos do projeto nacional- popular, ensejou outra proposta de representação do país, ao reunir repertórios locais e globais. Contemplando mudanças nas interpretações sobre música popular, nação e camadas populares, contrasto a produção da MPB dos anos 60 com a obra mais recente de Chico Buarque, o Cd Carioca, de 2006, através de sua assimilação de ritmos e segmentos da cena musical brasileira contemporânea, especialmente o hip-hop, o manguebeat e os sons eletrônicos. / [en] This thesis compares conceptions of popular music, nation and popular layers developed in two periods of the Popular Brazilian Music(MPB): The one in the middles of the 60´s, in which the idea of MPB was built, and the current days, characterized by sonorities originating from the suburbs of big cities, so-called communities for his inhabitants. Leaving from the musical categories of Mário de Andrade created in the decade of 1920, I analyse the context of formation of the MPB like a moment of development of the populário, in which there was proposed an aesthetics that was representing musically Brazil. In 67, while questioning the bases of the popular-national project, the Tropicália provided with an opportunity for another proposal of representation of the country, while joining locals and globals repertoires. Contemplating the changes in conceptions of popular music, nation and popular layers, I contrast the MPB of the 60´s with the most recent production of Chico Buarque, the 2006-year-old Cd Carioca, through his relation with rhythms and segments of the musical Brazilian contemporary scene, specially the hip- hop, the manguebeat and the electronic sounds.

O objetivo deste é trabalho é refletir sobre os modos de leitura da prosa contemporânea, a partir do romance Budapeste, de Chico Buarque. Investigaram-se os fatores que permeiam as discussões sobre a publicação da obra, em 2003, ressaltando a crítica jornalística que, por ocasião do lançamento do livro, apontou, por inúmeras vezes, o valor literário do texto de Chico Buarque, assim como do artista, e as leituras que se deram na universidade, espaço de criação e de difusão de diversos estudos, dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado, produzidos, na última década, sobre o romance. Desta forma, propõe-se uma análise da repercussão do romance Budapeste no cenário literário contemporâneo, a partir das críticas jornalísticas e dos trabalhos acadêmicos produções que se voltaram à divulgação ou à investigação do romance. A presente dissertação não se baseia na análise da história da crítica literária, antes, tece uma apresentação da produção crítica no Brasil, destacando a sua importância, como forma de contextualizar as discussões apresentadas / The objective of this work is to reflect on ways of reading of contemporary prose, exemplified, in this dissertation, by the novel Budapest, by Chico Buarque, from the perspective of criticism and academia. The factors involved in the discussions about the publication of the work in 2003 were investigated, emphasizing journalistic criticism that, at the launch of the book, inumerously pointed out the literary value of the text of Chico Buarque, as well as the artist and publications that proliferated at universities, which are spaces of creation and dissemination of various studies, dissertations and doctoral theses produced in the last decade about the novel. Thus, an analysis of the impact of the novel Budapest in the contemporary literary scene is proposed, using journalistic criticism and scholarly work productions that have aimed at the disclosure or the investigation of the novel. This work is not based on the analysis of the history of literary criticism, but rather weaves a presentation of the critical production in Brazil, highlighting its importance as a way to contextualize the discussions presented

Analisamos, nesse trabalho, o romance Leite Derramado (2009), escrito por Chico Buarque, e observamos a reconstrução dos fatos e associações fictícias organizadas através da edição memorialística do narrador. O romance é narrado por um homem de cem anos, que se encontra em um leito de hospital, e transmite suas experiências à medida que as rememora. Essas memórias dialogam com uma percepção social, de uma determinada classe, reconhecível, inclusive, na estilização da linguagem elaborada pelo autor. A arte de contar histórias, que em Leite Derramado se manifesta por meio da transmissão oral, atenderá às necessidades comunicativas do narrador e dialogará com sua perspectiva melancólica. Ao revelar os recursos utilizados pelo narrador-protagonista para reconstituir verbalmente sua história e a de seus ancestrais, percebemos os eventos históricos manipulados pela retórica de Eulálio, cuja perspectiva esclarece seu discurso de classe, baseado nas experiências próprias ou alheias resgatadas pela memória que, por sua vez, se apresenta de maneira desalinhada. Assim, esse trabalho busca iluminar a forma como os registros históricos, descritos pelo narrador, são transmitidos e como sua força deixa de incorrer num simples pano de fundo para alçar instâncias de destaque dentro da obra / We can analyze in this work, the novel Leite Derramado (2009), written by Chico Buarque, in order to observe the reconstruction of facts and fictitious associations organized through the narrator´s memories edition. The novel is narrated by a hundred years old man, lying in a hospital bed, and conveys his experiences as he recalls them. These memories dialogue with a social perception of a particular class, recognizable even in the stylization of language developed by the author. The art of storytelling, which Leite Derramado manifested through oral transmission, will meet the communication needs of the narrator and will communicate with his melancholy perspective. By revealing the resources used by the narrator-protagonist to verbally reconstruct his history and his ancestors, we perceive the historic events handled by the rhetoric of Eulalio, whose perspective clarifies his speech class, based on his own or others\' experience redeemed by memory, which in Instead, it presents a misaligned manner. Thus, this work seeks to illuminate how historical records described by the narrator are transmitted and how his strength fails to apply a simple backdrop to raise instances of prominence within the work

A tese Tempo e Artista. Chico Buarque, avaliador de nossa cotidianidade analisa, dentre as canções que fazem parte da obra musical do compositor Francisco Buarque de Hollanda, aquelas que abordam o cotidiano. O objetivo desta tese é demonstrar como essas canções, mais do que retratarem o cotidiano, também avaliam o dia a dia da sociedade brasileira criando ou destacando ideias e conceitos que são aceitos por uma grande parcela da população nacional entre as décadas de 60 até os anos 2000. Esta pesquisa também busca evidenciar como as letras das músicas compostas pelo artista se assemelham a crônicas, tanto pela estrutura do texto, como em virtude da escolha das temáticas e do compromisso com a realidade em que as mesmas surgem. O percurso deste trabalho iniciou-se com a contextualização da vida e obra do compositor, seguida por uma extensa investigação e captura nos principais veículos de comunicação da época, o que permitiu constatar como a credibilidade do artista foi sendo construída e fortalecida, a ponto do compositor ser considerado praticamente uma unanimidade, tanto entre as camadas mais instruídas da população como também pelos segmentos mais populares, que admiravam o samba buarqueano. Desta forma, autor de uma obra diferenciada, Chico Buarque obteve o endosso para ser o avaliador de nossa cotidianidade. A análise de um total de 24 canções representativas das cinco décadas possibilitou destacar como a poética buarqueana foi delineada e quais os temas que o compositor pinçava ao cotidiano. Finalmente, este estudo espera ter conseguido comprovar como a obra musical de Chico Buarque mostrou, avaliou e interferiu no cotidiano brasileiro. / The thesis Time and Artist: Chico Buarque, evaluator of our everydayness analyzes, among the songs that figure in the musical work of the composer Francisco Buarque de Hollanda, those that approach the everyday life. The objective of this thesis is to show how these songs, more than portraying the everyday life, also evaluate the day-by-day of the Brazilian society by either creating or highlighting ideas and concepts accepted by a large part of the national population from the 1960s to the 2000s. This research also intends to provide evidence of how the artist\'s lyrics resemble chronicles, both for text structure as well as for the selection of themes and engagement with the reality in which these songs arise. The process of this work started with the contextualization of the composer\'s life and work, followed by an extensive investigation and capture in the main communication vehicles at the time. Such process allowed verifying how the artist\'s credibility was built and strengthened up to a level of the author being considered an unanimity, both in the most educated segments of the population as well as among the most popular ones that admired the samba of Chico Buarque. In this sense, as the creator of a unique work, Chico Buarque was empowered to be the evaluator of our everydayness. The analysis of a total of 24 songs representing five decades made possible to emphasize how the poetics of Chico Buarque was designed and which themes he selected from ordinary life. Finally, this study expects to have confirmed how the musical work of Chico Buarque revealed, evaluated and interfered in the Brazilian everyday reality.

O romance Budapeste de Chico Buarque é uma narrativa em primeira pessoa que relata de forma não linear a trajetória do ghost-writer José Costa, desde os tempos de faculdade, quando vendia sob encomenda monografias e trabalhos acadêmicos, no Rio de Janeiro, até o seu estabelecimento definitivo na cidade de Budapeste, na Hungria, depois de ser-lhe atribuída a autoria de Budapest, livro que afirma não ter escrito e que relata grande parte de sua vida. Abordando o motivo do duplo, uma vez que o protagonista não se divide somente entre duas cidades, mas também entre duas línguas e duas mulheres, o relato se constrói a partir de um foco não confiável, o que reforça a problemática do logro e do embuste que a narrativa engendra. A associação desses elementos a saber, o foco não confiável, a profissão exercida pelo protagonista e seu deslocamento entre dois países possibilita algumas das questões que se colocam no romance e que selecionamos para análise, tais como a simulação e a abstração, as relações de dependência entre o Brasil e os países economicamente dominantes e a indústria cultural. Assim, partindo-se do pressuposto de que a obra literária recria em seu interior uma realidade ficcional autônoma, o propósito deste trabalho é examinar os temas apontados, verificando em que medida e de que maneira essas questões são captadas e formuladas pela estrutura da obra e assim revelam aspectos próprios da realidade concreta. / The novel Budapeste, by Chico Buarque, is a first-person narrative which relates in a non-linear way the trajectory of the ghost-writer José Costa since he used to sell monographs and academic papers in Rio de Janeiro until his settling in Budapest, the Hungarian capital, when he is pointed as the author of Budapest, a book which he does not recognizes as his and which tells a great part of his life. Dealing with the motif of the double, as the protagonist does not only divide himself between two cities, but also between two languages and two women, the story is told by an unreliable narrator, which reinforces the issue of deceit which the narrative constructs. The association of these elements unreliable narrator, profession of the protagonist and his circulation between two countries creates some of the questions that are present in the novel and herein analyzed, for instance, simulation and abstraction, relations of dependency between Brazil and economically dominant countries and the cultural industry. Therefore, starting from the idea that the literary work recreates an autonomous fictional reality, the aim of this dissertation is to examine the mentioned themes, observing in which ways these questions are grasped and formulated by the structure of the novel and hence can reveal specific aspects of concrete reality.
