<p> </p><p>In this Thesis three different versions of the Medea myth are analysed. They stem from the Antique, the 19^th century and the 20^th century, respectively. Analyses are made of how the female image of Medea is portrayed and if different historical perceptions of woman are being projected in the female image of Medea. The development of the myth and the drama is also being presented showing how it can influence the image of Medea.</p><p>In Euripides version from the Antique, Medea is shown as both a human and with a more supernatural side. This is also typical for myths from these times. However, what sets Euripides apart from other stories from that age is that it contains a female protagonist with a strong character. In Franz Grillparzers story from the 19^th century, Medea is still portrayed having a strong and independent nature, albeit no longer with supernatural properties. Instead she is driven by traditional human romantic characteristics displayed by her love towards Jason. In the version written by Christa Wolf, Medea is portrayed as a strong independent woman as in the other versions, albeit misunderstood by the society surrounding her. Her emancipated character becomes evident by the cultural differences displayed by Medea on one hand and society on the other hand. Also, Christa Wolf rewrites the myth into a novel and incorporates other aspects to the story such as a profound Scapegoat theme, by some described as a rewriting of the myth by incorporating personal experiences into the story.</p><p>However, the main character of Medea - her independence and strong character is a common denominator in all the three stories.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

<p>This essay investigates the phenomenon of <em>seamlessness</em> in Marilynne Robinson’s novel <em>Housekeeping </em>and seeks to show that seamlessness is decisive for shaping the prevailing atmosphere in the text and contributes to the sense of the power of the invisible that is central to the work.</p><p>[1] Marilynne Robinson, <em>Housekeeping</em> (London: Faber & Faber, 2005; first published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1980). <p>Den här uppsatsen syftar till att göra en kartläggning av den svenska novellgenren för att konkretisera den så kallade novellboomen som uppstod under 1990-talets mitt och dess anledningar. Vidare undersöks den amerikanske författaren Raymond Carvers betydelse för novellboomen, för att konkretisera och utreda om det finns någon substans i påståendet om hans påverkan på den svenska novellistiken, eller om det istället handlar om en kritikerbaserad genretillskrivning. Detta resonemang förs utifrån de berörda författarna, vissa litteraturkritiker och några bokförlags ståndpunkter i frågan. För att kunna se om hypotesen stämmer eller inte har en modell eller ett mönster med de mest generella dragen för Raymond Carvers novellistik sammanställts. Dessa generella mönster har sedan jämförts med fyra novellister som debuterade under ovan nämnda period, för att se vilka likheter dessa texter och novellister uppvisar med Carvers karakteristiska drag. Efter det mönster för ”Carverprosan” som framkommit, kan man klart och tydligt se att flera av de uppställda kriterierna motsvarar verkligheten. Dock kan man diskutera vidare om dessa drag är utmärkande för just Raymond Carver, eller om man istället borde diskutera arvet från den amerikanska novellistiken eller en Altmansk påverkan utifrån filmen Short Cuts, låter jag dock förbli obesvarad.</p>
