Bakgrunden till uppsatsen är den internationaliseringen som skett inom det svenska Försvaret. Därförmågan till lufttankning blivit intressant då det som regel används under internationellaflygoperationer.Syftet med uppsatsen har varit att undersöka om det finns ett behov av lufttankning av JAS 39 Gripen,grundat utifrån de operativa förmågorna i Försvarsmaktens huvuduppgifter. Frågan är om det finns ettsvenskt behov av lufttankning för att lösa tilldelade uppgifter?Metoden som används är dels deskriptiv och dels komparativ. Studien utgår från manöverteorinsgrundelement. Genom att undersöka vilka operativa förmågor i de olika huvuduppgifterna sompåverkas av en lufttankning kan en komparativ diskussion föras.Studien har visat på ett behov av lufttankning endast i uppgiften ”Bidra till fred och säkerhet iomvärlden” övriga uppgifter kan lösas med den ursprungliga konfigurationen utanlufttankningsförmåga av JAS 39 Gripen. / The background for the essay is that through the military internationalization of theSwedish armed forces, the interest of Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) has increasedwhere it is usually required in international air operations.The aim with the essay has been to examine if there is a need for AAR of the JAS 39Gripen based upon the operative ability of the Swedish armed forces main tasks.Is there a need of AAR to solve the assigned tasks?The method that is used is part descriptive and part comparative. This study comesfrom the maneuver theory basic elements.
