The relevance of this issue is supported by Law No. 11.645/08, which impute mandatory teaching of indigenous history in Brazilian public and private schools as well as the national curriculum history parameters. Although they don’t have normative force, it was suggested since the year of 1990 the work about indigenous theme in the classroom. Since then, textbooks as well as curricular proposals have been frequently analyzed about content on indigenous peoples. Little research has been done, in practice, to observe more attentively the representations formulated to these peoples in the classroom by students and teachers, and also the influence that they practice on the subject, the information technology and media representations. Therefore we assume that nowadays the textbook is not the unique source of information on which students have access to the indigenous question. Thus, besides the analysis of the history textbooks, the role and influence of television media in the student knowledge construction process are examined in this work through a field research in the public schools in Ceres. It was used as a primary method the application of questionnaires that seek to identify the representations formulated about the subject. / Este trabalho procura analisar as representações formuladas sobre os povos indígenas em escolas públicas da cidade de Ceres. A relevância do tema encontra-se apoiada na Lei nº 11.645/08, que imputou obrigatoriedade do ensino da história indígena nas escolas públicas e privadas brasileiras, bem como os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais de História, que apesar de não possuírem força normativa, sugeriam, desde a década de 1990, o trabalho com a temática indígena na sala de aula. Desde então, os livros didáticos, assim como as propostas curriculares têm sido analisados, frequentemente, em relação ao conteúdo sobre os povos indígenas, embora poucas pesquisas se detiveram, na prática, a observar com mais atenção as representações formuladas destes povos na sala de aula por alunos e professores, bem como, a influência que exercem sobre o tema as tecnologias da informação e as representações midiáticas. Assim, partimos do pressuposto de que atualmente o livro didático não constitui uma fonte exclusiva de informação na qual os estudantes têm acesso à questão indígena. Portanto, além das análises dos livros didáticos de história, o papel e a influência da mídia televisiva no processo de construção do conhecimento estudantil são examinados nesse trabalho, através de uma pesquisa de campo em escolas públicas da cidade de Ceres. Utilizando como método principal a aplicação de questionários, procuramos identificar as representações formuladas sobre a temática.
