Žinių valdymo modelio taikymas tarptautinėje organizacijoje / Application of the model of knowledge management in international organization

Šiuo metu viena iš ypač sparčiai besivystančių valdymo sričių yra žinių valdymas. Globalizacijos procesai iš esmės keičia šiuolaikinio valdymo sampratą. Vienas iš naujų požymių yra tas, kad šiuolaikinis valdymas vis labiau įsijungia į rinkos santykius. Antras požymis yra tas, kad keičiasi valdymo modeliai ir organizavimo formos. Abu požymiai yra susieti su žinių visuomenės aplinkos keliamais reikalavimais, ir yra atsakas į žinių visuomenės iššūkius. Žinių ekonomikos judėjimas kol kas menkai palietė kasdienę Lietuvos įmonių veiklą. Per paskutinius dvejus metus žinių ekonomiką Lietuvoje propaguojančios struktūros daugiausia dėmesio skyrė platiems politiniams pareiškimams, filosofinėms diskusijoms ir globalių permainų šalies ekonomikoje planavimui. Ilgu laikotarpiu šis procesas darys pastebimą įtaką Lietuvos ekonomikos vystimosi krypčiai. Tuo tarpu eilinėms įmonėms reikėtų pradėti rūpintis paprastesniu, žemiškesniu žinių valdymo problemų sprendimu. Vis dažniau organizacijose ieškoma būdų atvaizduoti turimas žinias, užtikrinti įmonės darbuotojams priėjimą prie jų, apsaugoti organizacijos žinių bazę nuo išorinio pasaulio intervencijos. Organizacijose iškyla žinių valdymo problema. Žinių valdymo modelio sudarymas – tai pirmas žingsnis šios problemos sprendimo link. Although there is no commonly agreed upon definition of knowledge management, organizations are demonstrating an increasing interest in the topic and start having problems to create, store and use the knowledge. The solution for such problems is creation of models of knowledge management in organizations. The object of the work is knowledge management in international organization. The aim of work is to analyze and adapt the model of knowledge management in international organization. Master’s Diploma work consists of 77 pages, 16 charts, 19 pictures, 56 sources of literature, 2 appendixes. In the first part of work there is provided the analysis of definition of knowledge, the economy and management of knowledge, differences between knowledge and information and knowledge society influence on knowledge management. In the second part the work also provides the analysis of the advantages and functions of knowledge management in organizations, analyzes different models and systems of knowledge management. In the last part the work provides the analysis of knowledge management in international Joint Stock Company “Selecta” and after the analysis provides the adjustment of the growth model of knowledge management and suggests the model of knowledge management program creation.

Smart Operation of Centralized Temperature Control System in Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

Smart Grid has emerged a very important concept in modern power systems. The integration of different loads such as residential, commercial and industrial into the smart grid and their optimal operation has a significant effect on the system's reliability, stability, peak power demand and energy price. This work presents the mathematical modeling of a Centralized Temperature Control System (CTCS) of a Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) and its optimal operation considering electricity prices and weather variations. The model considers comfort levels, preference settings and activity of residents in different units of the building to determine the optimal operation schedules of the CTCS, minimizing its total energy consumption cost. Multi-objective operation of the MURB is also investigated when residents in different units have conflicting interests, and the impact of such conflicting preferences on the operation of CTCS is analyzed. A case-study on optimal energy management of a single unit house considering net-metering is also presented. The proposed CTCS model is a Mixed Integer Non Linear Programing (MINLP) model, where some of the constraints are linearized to reduce the computational complexity arising from the non-linearity, for real-time applications. The model is studied for various customers' preferences using a realistic MURB model. Simulation results show that significant cost savings can be achieved using the proposed mathematical model.

Stochastic Power Management Strategy for in-Wheel Motor Electric Vehicles

In this thesis, we propose a stochastic power management strategy for in-wheel motor electric vehicles (IWM-EVs) to optimize energy consumption and to increase driving range. The driving range for EVs is a critical issue since the battery is the only source of energy. Considering the unpredictable nature of the driver’s power demand, a stochastic dynamic programing (SDP) control scheme is employed. The Policy Iteration Algorithm, one of the efficient SDP algorithms for infinite horizon problems, is used to calculate the optimal policies which are time-invariant and can be implemented directly in real-time application. Applying this control package to a high-fidelity model of an in-wheel motor electric vehicle developed in the Autonomie/Simulink environment results in considerable battery charge economy performance, while it is completely free to launch since it does not need further sensor and communication system. In addition, a skid avoidance algorithm is integrated to the power management strategy to maintain the wheels’ slip ratios within the desired values. Undesirable slip ratio causes poor brake and traction control performances and therefore should be avoided. The simulation results with the integrated power management and skid avoidance systems show that this system improves the braking performance while maintaining the power efficiency of the power management system.

Mining is essential to the human well-being in many aspects. Mining activities, however, contribute significantly to pollution and other environmental impacts in South Africa. Recently much more stringent environmental legislation has been developed in South Africa due to increased public awareness and environmental disasters caused by mining activities. Authorisations constitute one of the main "command and control" instruments that can be used to influence and direct the behaviour of individuals and organisations to achieve sound environmental protection ultimately. The problem is that in the ever-changing maze of South African environmental legislation, it is often difficult for individuals and organisations to identify, obtain and maintain environmental authorisations. This article provides a legislative framework for the mining sector, explores the purpose and importance of environmental authorisations, gives an overview of the underlying relationship between environmental authorisations, risk assessment and environmental management systems before proposing a generic procedure for identifying, obtaining and maintaining environmental authorisations. / Thesis (M. Identifying new technology to improve the effectiveness of IST Otokon's energy management systems / Gerhardus Albertus Combrink.

1ST Otokon, a Pretoria based company delivering energy management systems to the industrial and utility market segments, has shown steady growth since its inception 15 years ago. However, after ailing financial results, all aspects of the business were interrogated. It was doubted whether its energy management system (EMS) offering, ecWIN, was fulfilling the needs of the industry. Therefore this study was needed to identify new technology which could improve the effectiveness of ecWIN. After doing a thorough literature study on ecWIN, its competitors and the technologies currently utilised, the product was mapped to various technology management models. Deficiencies in the current software development environment were identified, including a lack of manpower and old software development tools. The empirical study entailed determining the effectiveness of the product through a user survey in the form of a questionnaire. Certain problem areas (e.g. insufficient software testing and a lack of documentation on advanced features) were identified by this survey. The numerous complaints about the slowness of certain reports and lack in user-friendliness were also highlighted. Also forming part of the literature and empirical study respectively, were the identification and evaluation of new technologies not yet utilised in the ecWIN sphere. Taking a holistic view of all this information, recommendations were made on how to improve the effectiveness of ecWIN. This was presented in terms of three dimensions: • Upgrade the current infrastructure over the next 12 months, mainly with new software development tools such as Centura Team Developer 2005, Crystal Reports, etc. • Improve the cost-effectiveness of ecWIN during 2006 and 2007, typically by utilising GPRS, MMS, WiFi and BlueTooth to retrieve information from meters. • Utilise a new business model (mainly centred on the cost-effectiveness dimension together with Linux and MySQL) which could allow the company to directly compete with other firms, even in the commercial and residential markets. A fourth dimension, consisting of technologies that should not be considered for integration with ecWIN at this stage, was also identified (e.g. IPv6, XHTML and Visual Studio .NET). The focus of this study was to investigate the perception of employees on environmental performance within a corporate company. In this instance Absa Bank Limited was the organisation under investigation referring directly to the banks impact on the environment. A literature study was conducted to establish an awareness of all related terms and subjects to environmental performance. Further a specific focus on Absa Bank Limited?s environmental impact and the policies and procedures set out by this organisation was researched and discussed. An empirical study was conducted by means of a self completion questionnaire administered by a random sample of employees working for Absa Bank Limited. Quantitative research that was conducted by means of questionnaires were distributed through the Absa Bank Limited Group to 200 employees in the Gauteng and North West Province and distributed through different departments and management levels. 52 usable questionnaires were gathered out of the abovementioned areas. Cronbach Alpha coefficient values were used to determine the internal consistency amongst items in the research instrument. The research instrument used in this study to assess perception of employees on the environmental performance within Absa Bank Limited had acceptable reliability, since not one of the constructs had a lower Cronbach Alpha coefficient than 0.7. The correlation between the demographical variables and the seven constructs were examined by independent t–tests and effect sizes. The demographical factors used were the gender classification of respondents, number of years employed by Absa Bank Limited and the management level of the respondents. In all instances the effect sizes were too small to be of any practical significance since none of the effect sizes had a large effect (d–value = 0.8). Recommendations and practical ways in which environmental performance could be enhanced and maintained in Absa Bank Limited were discussed. It was also reccomended that systems and procedures should be revisited and adapted to ensure adherence to the requirements of environmental performance.
