No. of bitstreams: 1 DissGTV.pdf: 1872903 bytes, checksum: 8df6b2f211cfc4236fc723147c24d9bf (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-07-03 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) / Due to the current growth in the fossil fuels consumption, there is a great concern about the increase in pollutant emissions. In order to reduce these emissions, research indicates that the decrease in vehicle weight can be one of the solutions to reduce these gas emissions. One possible way to reduce the car weight is the replacement of parts that uses high density metals by Magnesium alloys. The major problem with this replacement is the lack of ductility that this material has at room temperature, being necessary to heat the plates before the conformation. This heating process has a high production costs and it is unfeasible to use in the automotive industry today. In view of this problem, this work aims to study this lack of conformity to room temperature using a microstructure modification technique located in the regions of conformation. The technic used was Friction Stir Processing (FSP) at high speed. This processing is similar to Friction Stir Welding (FSW), but without joining materials. The FSP is just a localized microstructural modification. The analysis performed in this study after processing at 1, 7 and 10 m/min show that the microstructure and mechanical properties undergoes various changes at for every processing speed output different. The results showed that the material after processing improves the ductility at room temperature as grain size decreases.

Hantering av informations- och materialflöden för att främja logistiken på anläggningsprojekt / Management of information and material flow to promote logistics within construction projects

Lennéer, Rebecca, Lever, Nina January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: In the introduction it was concluded that the experienced logistical difficulties on a construction site often were related to multiple reasons. Examples of these are the disconnection between the design and production phase, lack of information exchange, project understanding and relationships as well as attitude towards cooperation and the various interpretations. The aim of this study is to investigate how information and material flows are managed within construction projects as well as finding options to optimize the supply chain and in turn promote the logistics.  Method: For the methodological approach of the study, a qualitative method is used. Qualitative data, in form of primary data, is collected through an interview study. To build an understanding of the theoretical background, secondary data is gathered by studying former literature research findings. This is the basis for achieving the goal of the study.  Findings: The result of the study shows that a cooperation between disciplines and a holistic approach is needed to promote the supply chain and logistics within a construction project. When disciplines in the various phases are involved in each other’s work, conditions are being created for managing the information and material flows and in turn improving the logistics. The result contributes to insight as to how the flows are managed today as well as the experienced limitations and improvements. This gives an indication of why the construction industry has not achieved the same success in enhancement of the supply chain as other industries.  Implications: This is what is needed to meet the challenge of improving the logistics in the construction industry:  Information and material flows need to be handled in a structured manner.  Creation of long-term relationships, increased usage of IT-tools and integrating purchases within contractors.  Disciplines within the various phases need to be integrated in each other’s work, having someone who coordinates the responsibilities within the project and utilization of logistics centers.  Limitations: Initially, the study was limited to only focusing on disciplines who generally do not have a direct impact on the logistics. In hindsight, it is considered that the study would benefit from interviewing more disciplines who can affect the logistics. This would provide a broader view of the aforementioned phases’ perspective. Although the study indicates different disciplines’ standpoint of the situation, a fair result is not fulfilled as a more equal selection of interviewees would be needed. It is important to note that the study does not focus on investigating how the improvements can be implemented.  Keywords: Logistics, Supply Chain Management, framework for Supply Chain Planning, construction projects, information and material flow.

The metabolism of socio-economic systems:combination of input-output analysis and material flow accounting for footprint-type indicators

Piñero, P. (Pablo) 03 December 2019 (has links)
Abstract This thesis explored innovative ways to improve estimation of material footprint-type indicators in application of Input-Output (IO) analysis to Material Flow Accounting. The following six research questions were addressed: 1) What is the potential impact of sector aggregation in IO modelling of raw material flows? Modelling errors due to aggregation of industries with dissimilar material requirements and trade structures into a single sector in IO models when calculating the material footprint were empirically analysed relative to greenhouse gas emissions. Significant biases emerged for raw material flows, which suggests that care should be taken when aggregating extractive sectors in IO models. 2) Can bottom-up approaches, such as LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), improve estimation of the raw materials embodied in trade products? and 3) What are the implications of integration of country-specific information from high geographical coverage IO models into LCA approaches for calculation of raw material embodied in trade products? An approach for combining country-specific production blueprints with LCA based on regional averages was developed. This approach proved useful in refining estimates of upstream raw materials embodied in trade products, although care is needed during its application since new biases may arise. 4) Can further perspectives be gained with a new allocation method, the ‘value added-based material footprint’, which assigns supply chain-wide raw material extractions to each participating economic actor according to its added value generation, contributing to discussions on the distribution of mitigation costs? Certain countries and sectors were found to be more material-intensive with this new accounting approach than in other widely known allocation methods, e.g. consumer footprint. 5) Are there unequal exchanges between high-income economies and middle- and lower-income countries when measured in terms of raw material and value added flows? and 6) Could integration of local and global IO data provide useful insights to study presence/absence of unequal material exchange at sub-national level? A study of material flows at inter- and intra-national level demonstrated that a regional economy can play a twofold role, both as sink or source of raw materials and in value added, depending on its position in the global economic hierarchy.

Materiálové toky a environmentální dopady malého elektroodpadu / Material Flows and Environmental Impacts of s-WEEE in the Czech Republic

Polák, Miloš January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is a comprehensive study describing and quantifying material flows of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) in the Czech Republic; specifically the material flow of small waste electric and electronic equipment (s-WEEE) as well as representative substances. The studied material flows were estimated regarding aspects of the environmental impact. The End-of-Life mobile phone is seen as a typical representative of s-WEEE ; therefore material flows of mobile phones are described in this thesis as well. To put it in concrete figures, approximately 124 thousand tons of WEEE from households originated in the Czech Republic in 2010, where each inhabitant got rid off 4 pieces of WEEE in average. Further, total production calculating also consumer-like WEEE from companies and institutions was around 141 thousand tons in 2010. S-WEEE present around 15% from the total amount of WEEE originating in 2010; however it is more than 80% as regards the number of pieces. Despite of that fact the recycling potential of Au for instance is slightly higher by s-WEEE than by large WEEE (63kg/year compared to the 59kg/year respectively). As regards estimation of the total production of EoL mobile phones, around 45 thousand pieces originated in the Czech Republic between the years 1990-2000 and 6,5...
