Dlouhodobé trendy početnosti ptáků v Evropě a v Severní Americe: metaanalýza dosavadních studií / Long-term population trends of birds in North America and Europe: a metaanalysis of existing studies

Říhová, Jana January 2015 (has links)
Since the beginning of the last century there have been significant changes in the environment, farming and the landscape structure. Because birds are one of the longest- studied groups of organisms and are considered to be good indicators of environmental quality, it is advisable to relate environmental changes to changes in bird abundance. Understanding these relationships enables better and more accurate formulation of conservation plans and priorities, and therefore a large number of studies were dedicated to them. Although these studies achieved great progress in the knowledge of the most important factors that affect bird populations, their findings remained somewhat incomplete and fragmentary due to their limited temporal and/or spatial coverage. Therefore, it was not entirely clear which patterns are general and which are confined to some specific regional conditions. The fill this knowledge gap, I collected all studies on long-term trends in bird abundance in Europe and North America, which I was aware of, and made a meta-analysis of their results. Using linear mixed-effects models, I found a significant decrease in open-habitat species, probably as a result of agricultural intensification and abandonment of agricultural land. This pattern was consistent regardless of region or time period...

Obchodovaný objem a očekávané výnosy akcií: metaanalýza / Trading volume and expected stock returns: a meta-analysis

Bajzík, Josef January 2019 (has links)
I investigate the relationship between expected stock returns and trading volume. I collect together 522 estimates from 46 studies and conduct the first meta-analysis in this field. Use of Bayesian model averaging and Frequentist model averaging help me to discover the most influential factors that affect the return-volume relationship, since I control for more than 50 differences among primary articles such as midyear and type of data, length of the primary dataset, size of market, or model employed. In the end, I find out that the relation between expected stock returns and trading volume is rather negligible. On the other hand, the contemporaneous relation between returns and volume is positive. These two findings cut the mixed results from previously written studies. Moreover, the investigated relationship is influenced by the size of country of interest and the level of its development. Besides the primary studies that employ higher data frequency provide substantially larger estimates than the studies with data from longer time periods. On the contrary, there is no difference among different estimation methodologies used. Finally, I employ classical and modern techniques such as stem-based methodology for publication bias detection, and I find evidence for it in this field. 1

Hämatologische Referenzwerte von Frühgeborenen unter 1500 g Geburtsgewicht

Diepold, Katharina 08 February 2002 (has links)
Diagnostische und therapeutische Entscheidungen hängen bei der Behandlung von VLBW Frühgeborenen ( / In very low birth weight (VLBW) infants, diagnostic and therapeutic decisions depend on hematologic values. As few data are available, we studied the course during the first 6 weeks of life. Four prospective longitudinal cohort studies were retrospectively combined assessing hematologic profiles of 562 VLBW infants. We showed by metaanalysis that the values between the different four studies are not significantly different. For characterization of red blood cells and ferritin, infants receiving erythropoietin were excluded. For characterization of white blood cells and platelets, infants receiving antibiotics were excluded. Red cell parameters of VLBW infants were significantly lower than those of mature newborns. 29% of VLBW infants have thromboctopenia at the age of 3 days. Neutrophils decreased steadily, and were

Proex C para o diagnóstico de lesões intra-epiteliais no colo do útero

Pias, Andressa de Azambuja January 2012 (has links)
Undertook a quantitative systematic review of the literature to ascertain the accuracy of the biomarker ProEx C in patients with ASC-US, ASC-H and SIL. Methods: A comprehensive search of the MEDLINE (PubMed and OVID interface), EMBASE, LILACS, IBECS, BIOSIS, Web of Science, SCOPUS, index from 1966 to November 2011. This review focused on studies that fulfill the three mandatory conditions for study selection that include Pap Test, triage testing ProEx C and histopathology like the reference test. Results: Five studies, including 713 women, were analyzed. 83% (355/429) of positive biopsy were positive for ProEx C activity, while 14% (41/284) of the negative biopsy were positive for ProEx C activity. Pooled sensitivity was 83% (95% IC, 79 to 87) and specificity was 85% (95% IC, 80-89) using software Meta-Disc. For cervical lesion vs positive or negative biopsy, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.90 with Q* point value of 0.84. Conclusion: our data agree with the hypothesis that ProEx C represents an early event in cervical carcinogenesis that could be associated with the initiation and progression of cervical lesions and is expressed in the studied tests may reveal greater diagnostic accuracy of these tests.

The Evolution of Life History Traits and Their Thermal Plasticity in Daphnia

Bowman, Larry L., Jr., Post, David M. 06 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Few studies have explored the relative strength of ecogeographic versus lineage-specific effects on a global scale, particularly for poikilotherms, those organisms whose internal temperature varies with their environment. Here, we compile a global dataset of life history traits in Daphnia, at the species-and population-level, and use those data to parse the relative influences of lineage-specific effects and climate. We also compare the thermal response (plasticity) of life history traits and their dependence on climate, temperature, precipitation, and latitude. We found that the mode of evolution for life history traits varies but that the thermal response of life history traits most often follows a random walk model of evolution. We conclude that life history trait evolution in Daphnia is not strongly species-specific but is ecogeographically distinct, suggesting that life history evolution should be understood at the population level for Daphnia and possibly for other poikilotherms.

Koncept nastolování agendy v kontextu českých mediálních studií / Context of agenda-setting in the context of Czech media studies

Nečas, Vlastimil January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. The second fundamental area of the dissertation consists...
