<p>Purpose/Aim: The purpose is to describe, analyze and compare the two communication campaigns Världens Chans and Utrota Fattigdomen Nu, and discuss how and to what extent communication campaigns in Sweden can be used to reduce global poverty. The theoretical framework is mainly based on communications strategies and other relevant aspects of the planning process of campaigns.</p><p>Material/Method: Within the qualitative case study as an overall method, the main material to the two cases is obtained through five qualitative interviews with the premier representatives of the campaigns.</p><p>Main results: Världens Chans can be seen as an information campaign by the government which purpose is to contribute to the fulfilment of the millennium goals by drawing the attention of the public to their existence. Utrota Fattigdomen Nu, on the other hand, is an influence campaign by the civil society which purpose is to exterminate poverty by putting a pressure on power holders and to change the attitudes and the behaviours among the public. Both campaigns are based on a network with lots of different actors, functioning as opinion makers. Furthermore, communication campaigns are important tools in the fight against poverty.</p>

This workshop aims to share the success of the Millennium Mathematics Project (MMP) in bringing mathematics to life for students and teachers. A range of interactive enrichment programmes and their innovative ideas and resources will be shared. Two MMP outreach projects will be explained in detail as the main focus of the workshop: (1) The Enigma Project, (2) The Risk Roadshow. Both projects travel to primary and secondary schools as well as universities, organisations, science festivals and residential camps, both nationally and internationally.

(MIC-BA) está inserida e suas práticas de responsabilidade social empresarial, sobretudo no relacionamento com comunidades circunvizinhas à fábrica, localizada em área litorânea do estado da Bahia, junto ao Pólo industrial de Camaçari. Em abordagem longitudinal, são resgatados elementos do contexto global, nacional e local e características da indústria química, identificando sua relação com práticas adotadas pela empresa, especialmente no que se refere a sua interação com comunidades circunvizinhas à fábrica em Camaçari, além de aspectos relativos a meio ambiente, público interno, governo e sociedade, em quatro períodos, desde sua instalação, em 1971, até 2008. Para esta análise, são explorados conceitos, modelos e indicadores que permitem analisar o desempenho empresarial no que se refere à responsabilidade social. Entre eles, destacam-se o modelo Estrutura-Conduta-Performance Social (ECP-Social), desenvolvido por Pasa (2004) e os Indicadores Ethos de Responsabilidade Social Empresarial. A estratégia de pesquisa utilizada foi o estudo de caso único exploratório, essencialmente qualitativo, com procedimentos metodológicos que incluíram análise documental, entrevistas, elementos de observação participante e de observação direta. A partir dos dados e resultados obtidos, conclui-se que, entre os fatores que se destacam por sua influência sobre a natureza das práticas empresariais da organização, no período analisado, sob a perspectiva da responsabilidade social, estão: práticas de gestão definidas pelos controladores acionários, de acordo com sua origem; perfil dos gestores dedicados às relações com comunidades; pressões governamentais, sociais e da mídia local; mudanças na legislação sobre as questões ambientais; bem como mudanças na percepção da sociedade sobre as responsabilidades que devem caber às empresas na atualidade. / Salvador

Le sujet porte sur le partenariat, son avènement et ses portées juridiques, de sorte que le champ temporel de cette approche descriptive et analytique couvre à la fois la veille et l'aube du troisième millénaire. Ainsi, cette approche afférente au partenariat au sein du système international se base notamment sur les instruments juridiques pré-onusiens à savoir le pacte de la SDN, et ceux onusiens, à commencer par la charte des Nations Unies et la déclaration du millénaire, ayant généré les objectifs du millénaire pour le développement. Ces deux instruments et bien d'autres ayant une nature thématique et dogmatique, sont évalués et surtout affinés par des documents de nature nettement plus pragmatique, notamment le document final du sommet mondial 2005. Par ce moyen, la nature juridique est mieux conjuguée avec les retombées socioéconomiques au niveau mondial. Par conséquent, la thèse tente une modélisation du partenariat, notion récente et peu consensuelle, apportant ainsi du pragmatisme sur le plan notionnel et empirique du droit du développement. / The subject deals the partnership, its emergence and its juridical range, as the temporal scope of this descriptive and analytical approach, covers both, the eve and the dawn of the third millennium, therefore, this approach related to the partnership within the international system, based especially on the pre-United Nations instruments in particular the pact of the League of Nations, and the united nations instrument, especially the Charter of this organization and the Millennium Declaration, which generate the Millennium Development goals In particular, the eighth goal, related to establishment of a global partnership for development. These two instruments and more others with dogmatic and thematic kind, are evaluated and refined by much more pragmatic documents, that is the, 2005 world summit outcome document, so the juridical nature is better combined with worldwide socioeconomic impact and its applications on a regional, multilateral and bilateral partnership . Thus, the thesis tries modeling the most consensual guidelines partnership, this recent and little consensual notion.

In the pursuit of renewable energy, wind turbines are used to achieve global and national environmental goals. The establishment of this power production has escalated in Sweden, with the aim of phasing out the use of fossil fuels. The electricity generated may be classified as clean, but the infrastructure not only causes landscape changes, but also threatens ecosystems and their services that contribute to human well-being. The effects on ecosystem services are cross-border, and therefore require cooperation at different institutional scales. This study examines documents at national, regional, and local level to map the existing knowledge about wind power's effects on ecosystem services, and how ecosystem services are expressed in planning. A certain common delineation of the effects can be deduced between the different levels of cultural and supporting services. Planning for wind power at the local level has been shown in Piteå municipality to include a few of the ecosystem services that have been defined. However, there is a lack of an in-depth connection between the affected areas, and any ecosystem services these areas can provide.

From having to react to September 11th to being active with the election of Barack Obama, the "Awful Aughts" was a time of growth for Millennials. They were able to shape that decade, but conversely, the years 2000 to 2009 will also have a lasting impact on them. Magister Bibliothecologiae - MBibl / The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is a tool through which the present government in South Africa wants to implement transformation in regard with raising the standard of living of the people in all spheres of life. Libraries are often seen as important agencies for information dissemination and other services. Public libraries have a vital role to play in the achievement of the MDGs. Stakeholders all over the spectrum need to collaborate with libraries to achieve these goals by 2015. The study investigated the role of the public library in realising some of the MDGs by means of a case study of Groenheuwel Public Library. The aim of this case study was to determine how this public library contributes to the development of Groenheuwel. Empirical research techniques were used to determine whether public libraries contribute to the well-being of the community of Groenheuwel and to the achievement of certain targets for the Millennium Development Goals. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) provide a framework for libraries and information services to develop and align their strategies and access their contribution towards their countries (Kaniki, 2008:16). The methodology applied was a quantitative questionnaire which included open-ended questions, which explored the role of the public library in the respondents' lives. The study made use of random sampling; the population of the study was adult library users. Every third library user was asked to complete a questionnaire over a period of two weeks. The data collected, informed the researcher what the purpose of the adult users' visit to the library was and whether the library addresses MDGs directly or indirectly. The findings should provide empirical evidence of the impact of public libraries, with reference to Groenheuwel public library, in addressing some of the Millennium Development Goals. The researcher hopes that this study will convince local government and decision makers to expand the library to a bigger library, to render an effective and efficient library service with added staff members and that the community find the library valuable and vital for their information needs.
