O trabalho visa reconhecer e explanar a voz dos africanos suas atuações enquanto resistentes e negociadores do processo que levou à incursão da religião cristã protestante no território do antigo reino de Buganda. / We work from the concept of representations used by the “New” Political History that was used in the understanding of Protestant missionaries of the Church Missionary Society reports led by Alexander Mackay, who worked in Central Africa during the late nineteenth century (1876-1890 ), engaged in an evangelizing project for attracting new converts, particularly from the analysis of the primary source the Wonderful History of Uganda published by Joseph Dennis Mullins in 1904 after meeting a series of reports produced in the period used as a time frame. The work aims to recognize and explain the voice of Africans his performances as tough negotiators and the process that led to the incursion of Protestant Christian religion in the territory of the ancient kingdom of Buganda.

Supervising Gifted People: A Consideration of the Fivefold Gifts in the Effective Supervision of Missionaries

Meador, Donald Stanley 02 January 2018 (has links)
ABSTRACT SUPERVISING GIFTED PEOPLE: A CONSIDERATION OF THE FIVEFOLD GIFTS IN THE EFFECTIVE SUPERVISION OF MISSIONARIES Donald Stanley Meador, Th.M. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2017 Supervisor: Dr. M. David Sills God gifted to the church certain people with specific ministry functions in order to develop a complete and healthy church. These gifts are ministry functions that the apostle Paul presented in Ephesians 4:11 and 1 Corinthians 12:28. This thesis proposes a conceptual framework loosely based on these five ministry functions and examines effective supervision of cross-cultural missionaries in light of them. Chapter 1 outlines foundational presuppositions to aid in understanding the ministry functions in a missions context. Chapter 2 describes six ministry functions common to the missionary task. The visionary strategist, church encourager, evangelist, pastoral caregiver, and teacher are examined as equipping functions. The administrator is examined as a function that facilitates the equipping functions. Chapter 3 addresses effective missionary supervision. The role of the missionary, current trends in missionary supervisor training, and effective missionary supervision are examined. Mentoring and spiritual direction are featured as functions of biblical supervision. Chapter 4 concludes this thesis summarizing five keys to effective missionary supervision.

Onesimos Nasib and the Macaafa Qulqulluu: Language, Religion, and Culture in Ethiopia

Key, Ethan Michael 14 December 2017 (has links)
Language and religion are essential components of cultural identity. Cultural identity both reinforces and subverts the dominant paradigm. An alliance of Church and State in Ethiopia reinforced Abyssinian imperial political, economic, and military domination with linguistic, religious, and cultural hegemony. The Abyssinians are the Amhara and Tigrayan people, who speak related Semitic languages and follow Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. As the Abyssinians created the modern Ethiopian empire, they dominated the Ethiopian political landscape since the 1880s. Onesimos Nasib’s life serves as a case study, allowing this thesis to explore these themes of how culture can reinforce or undermine state authority. Enslaved as a child, Onesimos’ life reveals how cultural perceptions justified exploitation in the Abyssinian Empire. After his freedom and baptism into the Protestant Christian faith, Onesimos’ work as a missionary, translator, and teacher reveals how language, culture, and religion can help edify an exploited group while challenging the sources of that exploitation. This thesis emphasizes the significance of Oromo literature, education, and the adoption of Protestant Christianity in Wallaga region in Western Ethiopia during the early twentieth century as a means of preserving Oromo language, culture, and beliefs.

The unfinished task of the Evangelical Lutheran mission during the 21st century in the Northern Diocese, focusing much on the comprehensive mission of the church

Nzuza, Thandazani Daniel 15 November 2010 (has links)
This dissertation reflects on the problem of the Evangelical Lutheran church in Southern Africa. In my deliberations I have indicated that, there is a gap that needs to be closed, since the Evangelical Lutheran missionaries have left the Country. When (ELCSA) Evangelical Lutheran church in Southern Africa, took over the church leadership in 1972. We thought that, the local church leadership was matured enough, to lead the church and confront the challenges of the day. On my assessment and research, I have discovered that, the problems within the Evangelical Lutheran church are growing day by day, at some stage is even worse. My other concern is that, since missionaries left the use of comprehensive mission (Kerygma; Diakonia, Leitorgia and Koinonia).Comprehensive mission is the backbone of the church, once you missed it, you have failed the church. In my conclusion, I would like to say, the church has a future provided if it can treat these challenges in a positive manner. / Dissertation (MA(Theology))--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Science of Religion and Missiology / unrestricted
