Development of an online reputation monitor / Gerhardus Jacobus Christiaan Venter

Venter, Gerhardus Jacobus Christiaan January 2015 (has links)
The opinion of customers about companies are very important as this can influence a company’s profit. Companies often get customer feedback via surveys or other official methods in order to improve their services. However, some customers feel threatened when their opinions are publicly asked and thus prefer to voice their opinion on the internet where they take comfort in anonymity. This form of customer feedback is difficult to monitor as the information can be found anywhere on the internet and new information is generated at an astonishing rate. Currently there are companies such as Brandseye and Brand.Com that provide online reputation management services. These services have various shortcomings such as cost and is incapable of accessing historical data. Companies are also not allowed to purchase these software and can only use the software on a subscription basis. The design proposed in this document will be able to scan any number of user defined websites and save all the information found on the websites in a series of index files, which can be queried for occurrences of user defined keywords at any time. Additionally, the software will also be able to scan Twitter and Facebook for any number of user defined keywords and save any occurrences of the keywords to a database. After scanning the internet, the results will be passed through a similarity filter, which will filter out insignificant results as well as any duplicates that might be present. Once passed through the filter the remaining results will be analysed by a sentiment analysis tool which will determine whether the sentence in which the keyword occurs is positive or negative. The analysed results will determine the overall reputation of the keyword that was used. The proposed design has several advantages over current systems: - By using the modular design several tasks can execute at the same time without influencingeach other. For example; information can be extracted from the internet while existing resultsare being analysed. - By providing the keywords and websites that the system will use the user will have full controlover the online reputation management process. - By saving all the information contained in a website the user will be able to take historicalinformation into account to determine how the keywords reputation changes over time. Savingthe information will also allow the user to search for any keyword without rescanning theinternet. The proposed system was tested and successfully used to determine the online reputation of many user defined keywords. / MIng (Computer and Electronic Engineering), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

Use of a real-time continuous glucose monitor in healthy dogs during anesthesia

Bilicki, Kerry January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Clinical Sciences / Thomas Schermerhorn / The use of continuous blood glucose monitors (CBGMs) has recently come into favor in human medicine for the control and monitoring of the diabetic patient. It allows for a higher degree of accuracy of the true glucose curve throughout a 72-hour period. With this information, physicians are better equipped to treat and manage diabetic patients. Recently, this modality has been verified for use in veterinary patients including cats and dogs. This is an excellent source of information, especially in the management of difficult to regulate veterinary patients. This device has potential for use in various applications, particularly for the monitoring of patients with various diseases under general anesthesia. In order to ensure accurate results do occur when an animal is under general anesthesia, the continuous blood glucose monitor was evaluated on apparently healthy patients under anesthesia for routine procedures such as ovariohysterectomies and orchiectomies. In this manner, the monitor was tested on anesthetized patients that had the potential to experience hypothermia, hypotension, and other anesthesia-associated complications that can be typical of patients that could benefit from the CGMS.

MIL-STD-1553 Data Acquisition System

Landry, Michael 11 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1989 / Town & Country Hotel & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The Range Commanders Council recently added a chapter to IRIG 106-86 which describes a standard for acquisition of MIL-STD-1553 traffic flow. A system has been developed which monitors bus traffic using the format described in the standard for encoding. In addition to bus data, PCM analog channels can be inserted into the telemetry steam. Due to the high bandwidth of the telemetry stream, real-time ground processing of the 1553 data is difficult. Therefore, a limited number of selective measurements taken from the bus traffic are available at fixed positions in the telemetry format for real-time monitoring of critical parameters. A discussion of hardware, software, encoding, and testing will be presented.

"Regler! Ja det är väl bra att ha?" : En studie om gränsdragningar kring ungas IT användning

Eriksson, Sofie, Karlsson, Ronja January 2016 (has links)
Previous research has shown an increased use of IT amongst young people. This has made it problematic for parents to set boundaries for their children's use of IT. The aim for this study was to create a deeper understanding of how parents relate to boundaries of IT, and how they monitor their children's use of it. This study was a qualitative study through semi-structured interviews to enable to capture the parents' experiences. The results showed that parents have boundaries but that there is a gap between the occurrence of boundaries and causes for boundaries. The study showed that parents monitor their children's use of IT but it is unclear whether the methods they use actually give them sufficient insight and knowledge regarding their children use of IT.

COMPACT AIRBORNE REAL TIME DATA MONITOR SYSTEM - PRODUCTION MONITOR

Tolleth, Grant H. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper describes the Production Monitor (PM), a result of integrating very diverse hardware architectures into a compact, portable, real time airborne data monitor, and data analysis station. Flight testing of aircraft is typically conducted with personnel aboard during flight. These personnel monitor real time data, play back recorded data, and adjust test suites to certify or analyze systems as quickly as possible. In the past, Boeing has used a variety of dissimilar equipment and software to meet our testing needs. During the process of standardizing and streamlining testing processes, the PM was developed. PM combines Data Flow, VME, Ethernet, and PC architectures into a single integrated system. This approach allows PM to run applications, provide indistinguishable operator interfaces, and use data bases and peripherals common to our other systems.

MULTI CHANNEL AC POWER MONITOR USING DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

Hicks, William T. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / The monitoring of multi phase 400 Hz aircraft power includes monitoring the phase voltages, currents, real powers, and frequency. This paper describes the design of a multi channel card that uses digital signal processing (DSP) to measure these parameters on a cycle by cycle basis. The card measures the average, peak, minimum cycle, and maximum cycle values of these parameters.

A Field Monitor System of Rod-pumped Wells Based on GPRS

Zhaodong, Xing, Yanhong, Kou, Qishan, Zhang 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / To enhance the production management of the rod-pumped wells in the oil field, using a high performance single-chip as the processor, a field monitor system based on GPRS is researched and developed. In the paper the hardware design and software design are expatiated, the sampling frequency and determination rules for the running state are analyzed, the rational communication protocol is designed to ensure the reliable message transmission and reduce the communication fees. In the end the field monitor system is successfully implemented and verified in practice, part of data transmission result is illustrated.
