Facebook e Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem: uma análise da interação no processo pedagógico da Educação a Distância

Its main objective is to contribute to the educational process of DE. As a conceptual reference, this work builds on the three main types of interaction in DE proposed by Michael Moore (Moore; Kearsley, 2001): student-instructor, student-student, and student-content. As methodology, it performs a bibliographic review of national and international surveys comparing the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Moodle, with the use of Facebook in DE. It also analyzes the results of the literature and brings together the data systematically, thereby facilitating future research on the topic. In addition, it synthesizes and describes the results of the review in order to ascertain whether the use of Facebook may or may not enhance education as an interaction and learning environment. It concludes that the use of Facebook as an interaction environment is significantly well accepted by students, particularly on the forms of student-instructor and student-student interaction, while LMS still contribute adequately to the individualized study, or student-content interaction. So, social networking sites can significantly contribute to the teaching of DE / Esta dissertação discute o uso do site de rede social Facebook como ambiente virtual de interação e aprendizagem em Educação a Distância (EaD). Seu objetivo principal é contribuir com o processo pedagógico da EaD. Como referência conceitual, este trabalho utiliza os três tipos principais de interação em EaD propostos por Michael Moore (MOORE; KEARSLEY, 2001): aluno-professor, aluno-aluno e aluno-conteúdo. Como metodologia, realiza uma revisão bibliográfica de pesquisas nacionais e internacionais que comparam o uso de Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem (AVAs), como Blackboard e Moodle, com o uso do Facebook em EaD. Analisa ainda os resultados da literatura e aglutina os dados de forma sistemática, facilitando, assim, futuras pesquisas sobre o tema. Além disso, sintetiza e descreve os resultados obtidos na revisão, visando averiguar se o uso do Facebook pode ou não favorecer a educação como um ambiente de interação e aprendizagem. Conclui que a utilização do Facebook como ambiente de interação é significativamente bem aceita pelos discentes, especialmente para as formas de interação aluno-professor e aluno-aluno, enquanto os AVAs seguem atendendo suficientemente o estudo individualizado, ou a interação aluno-conteúdo. Assim, sites de rede social podem contribuir significativamente com a pedagogia da EaD

Urraca I e a governança feminina: uma análise das representações sociais na Península Ibérica Medieval

Nesta dissertação, pretende-se analisar as representações sociais de Urraca I, rainha de Leão e Castela durante a primeira metade do século XII, a partir da crônica Historia Compostelana e de outros documentos coetâneos, como as Crônicas de Sahagún e os diplomários administrativos redigidos durante sua governança. Diante de uma vasta gama de representações produzidas em torno de Urraca I, ora valorizada por sua atuação governante, ora menosprezada por sua condição feminina, identificamos que sua representação está relacionada diretamente ao contexto de produção das obras que tratam dela. Assim propomos também uma viagem pela historiografia, na investida de compreender o papel feminino desta governante na corte leonesa do século XII, por meio da teoria da representação social explanada por Serge Moscovici. Nosso principal desafio é unir essas múltiplas representações num objeto de aprendizagem que sirva para orientar a formação continuada dos profissionais dedicados ao ensino de história na educação básica. No caso, optamos por desenvolver um curso na plataforma Moodle que trabalhe na análise e produção de narrativas históricas sobre a mulher Ibérica na Idade Média, afim de unir a reflexão documental e historiográfica no ensino de história na educação básica. / This dissertation intend to analyze the social representations of Urraca I, queen of Leon and Castile during the first half of the twelfth century, from the chronicle Historia Compostelana and other contemporary documents such as the Chronicles of Sahagún and the administrative diplomats written during her governance. Faced the multiple representations produced of Urraca I, sometimes valued for her government performance, sometimes underestimated by her feminine condition, we identified that her representation is directly related with production context of the works about her. Thus we propose a journey through the historiography, in the invested of understanding the feminine paper of this ruler in the Leonese court of the twelfth century, through the theory of the social representation explained by Serge Moscovici. Our main challenge is to unite these multiple representations into an object of learning that serves to guide the continuing education of professionals dedicated to teaching history in basic education. In this case, we chose to develop a course on the Moodle platform that works on the analysis and production of historical narratives about the Iberian woman in the Middle Ages, willing to unite source and historiographical reflection in the teaching of history in basic education.

In this way, when we speak in search of knowledge, we are reminded of the various ways of studying, and thinking about the current context with the evolution of technologies, where schools are increasingly adhering to studies aligned with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). ICTs are used as tools for learning aid. With this intention indeed it is believed that aligning the bases of traditional classes with distance classes, making use of a platform for extra moments in the classroom, enables students to acquire information relevant to a certain content. The MOODLE platform is a Free Software tool and is adopted in most of the Education Institutions to promote Distance Education (EaD). Knowing these principles is what you do if you base this study, in addition to take the student out of that old routine of a classroom with the teacher writing on the board or projecting information from your computer. First of all, we will make an initial milestone where we will count on a test called Pre-test, which will be the basis for us to know what learners bring with them. Apprentices will be introduced to the platform where they will have one more tool to search for information. Bringing the students into the MOODLE platform so they can acquire knowledge and thus arouse their curiosity to seek self-learning. The final mark will be with the application of the Post test, where we will analyze within all The collaborative process, if indeed the student has evolved. The help of the teacher-tutor is extremelly important at this moment because it is this figure that will begin to instigate the students to self-discover. This study aims to analyze the learning behavior and evolution of the apprentices of the Instituto Federal do Amap? (IFAP), Campus Laranjal do Jari, in the discipline subject of Computer Networks, using as a method the classroom classes in the classroom concomitantly with the distance classes. / Este estudo caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa onde buscamos analisar com profundidade o conhecimento dos aprendizes, tamb?m de car?ter descritivo onde descrevemos os passos de como ocorreram os processos colaborativos dentro da plataforma. Dessa forma, quando falamos em busca de conhecimento, nos vem em mente as v?rias formas de estudar, e considerando o contexto atual das evolu??o das tecnologias, percebemos que as escolas est?o cada vez mais aderindo os estudos alinhados com o uso das Tecnologias da Informa??o e Comunica??o (TIC). As TICs s?o utilizadas como ferramentas para aux?lio na aprendizagem. Nesse sentido, acredita-se que ? indispens?vel alinhar as bases das aulas tradicionais ?s aulas ? distancia, utilizando uma plataforma para que fora sala de aula os alunos possam adquirir informa??es pertinentes a um determinado conte?do. A plataforma MOODLE ? uma ferramenta de Software Livre e ? adotada na maioria das Institui??es de Ensino para promover Educa??o ? Dist?ncia (EaD). As vantagens em utilizar essa plataforma fomentaram a viabilidade da presente pesquisa. Al?m de apresentar-se como proposta inovadora nas pr?ticas educativas, pois tira o aluno da velha rotina da sala de aula com o professor escrevendo no quadro ou projetando as informa??es de seu computador. Para tanto, o marco inicial da pesquisa foi a aplica??o de um Pr?-teste, que serviu de base para saber o que os aprendizes traziam de informa??o. Em seguida esses alunos utilizaram a plataforma MOODLE e as ferramentas dispostas para a realiza??o de atividades, a fim de que pudessem desenvolv?-las de forma aut?noma em busca do forma??o t?cnica e intectual. O marco final foi a aplica??o do P?s-teste, onde analisou-se, dentro do o processo colaborativo, a progress?o do conhecimento do aluno, quanto ? apropria??o de conceitos referentes a ?rea de estudo. O aux?lio do professor-tutor foi fator relevante na intera??o do aluno com a plataforma. Σχεδιασμός και ανάπτυξη πρότυπου συστήματος ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης που αξιοποιεί τεχνολογίες κινητών συσκευών (κινητή ηλεκτρονική μάθηση - mobile e-Learning)

Η εισαγωγή των νέων Τεχνολογιών της Πληροφορίας και των Επικοινωνιών (ΤΠΕ) στην εκπαίδευση άλλαξε σημαντικά τη μορφή και τη λειτουργία της. Με την υιοθέτηση των νέων τεχνολογιών αναπτύχθηκε και αναπτύσσεται ακόμα η ηλεκτρονική μάθηση (e-learning), m-learning και η εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευση απέκτησε μια νέα διάσταση και νέες δυνατότητες. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι η ανοικτή και εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευση αποτελεί έναν από τους βασικούς προπομπούς της νέας εποχής στο χώρο της εκπαίδευσης. Η κινητή ηλεκτρονική μάθηση θα χαρακτηρίσει τις νέες στρατηγικές, τις πρακτικές, τα εργαλεία, τις εφαρμογές, και τους πόρους για να εκπληρώσει την υπόσχεση της πανταχού παρούσας, προσωπικής, και συνδεδεμένης εκμάθησης, καθώς βασίζεται στην ιδέα της εκμάθησης με κινητές συσκευές οπουδήποτε οποιαδήποτε στιγμή, παρέχοντας μεγαλύτερη ευκολία στην κίνηση, τη σύνδεση σε κάποιο δίκτυο και τέλος χαρακτηρίζεται άπό νέες στρατηγικές και τα εργαλεία. Επομένως, προσφέρει ανεξαρτησία. Στόχος της διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι να υλοποιηθεί ένα σύστημα που θα βασίζεται στα διεθνή τεχνολογικά πρότυπα για ανοικτή, σύγχρονη και ασύγχρονη εκμάθηση για κινητά τηλέφωνα και ειδικότερα για iPhones. Θα χρησιμοποιηθεί και επεκταθεί η πλατφόρμα ανοικτού κώδικα Moodle και το σύστημα θα πληρεί όλες τις τεχνικές προδιαγραφές καθώς τα κινητά τηλέφωνα απαιτούν ειδικές τεχνικές και λειτουργικές απαιτήσεις. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, αποσαφηνίζονται βασικοί όροι για την μάθηση και την εκπαίδευση, καθώς επίσης παρουσιάστηκαν ακροθιγώς και οι τύποι εκπαίδευσης και μάθησης. Στη συνέχεια, παρουσιάζεται η υφιστάμενοι κατάσταση στα παραδοσιακά Συστήματα Διαχείρισης Μάθησης και στα Προσαρμοστικά Συστήματα Ηλεκτρονικής Μάθησης. Αποφασίστηκε να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως βασικός πυρήνας του συστήματος ένα παραδοσιακό σύστημα διαχείρισης μάθησης, το Moodle, βασιζόμενοι σε μια αξιολόγηση (Sabine 2005) που διεξήχθει σε εννιά Εφαρμογές Ανοικτού Κώδικα (Open Source) εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης. Ο κύριος στόχος της αξιολόγησης ήταν οι ικανότητες και τα χαρακτηριστικά των συστημάτων αυτών στην προσαρμογή και την εξατομίκευση και το Moodle έλαβε τη μέγιστη αξιολόγηση σε πέντε από τα οκτώ κριτήρια που τέθηκαν. Στόχος αυτής της έρευνας ήταν να βρεθεί το καλύτερο σύστημα ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης ανοικτού κώδικα το οποίο θα μας επέτρεπε να αναπτυχθεί μια πλατφόρμα κινητής μάθησης που θα συνδίαζε τα πλεονεκτήματα των σύγχρονων Προσαρμοστικών Συστημάτων Ηλεκτρονικής Μάθησης, όπως η προσαρμοστικότητα και την εξατομίκευση με τα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά των παραδοσιακών Συστημάτων Διαχείρισης Μάθησης, όπως είναι η επαναχρησιμοποίηση και η ολοκλήρωση. Πραγματοποιήθηκε εγκατάσταση του Moodle σε διαθέσιμο server της σχολής Μηχανικών Η/Υ και Πληροφορικής και πραγματοποιήθηκε κατάλληλη επέκταση του με τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε τα μαθήματα να προσαρμόζονται στις δυνατότητες κάθε μαθητή, στους μαθησιακούς στόχους του, καθώς και στα επίπεδα γνώσης, και το τρόπο μάθησης του κάθε μαθητή, ενώ ταυτόχρονα να είναι προσβάσιμα και από κινητές συσκευές όπως iPhones και iPads. Για να επιτευχθεί η πρόσβαση στα μαθήματα της πλατφόρμας από κινητές συσκευές εγκαταστάθηκαν σε ένα iPhone οι εφαρμογές mPage και mTouch. Ύστερα από πειράματα που διενεργήθηκαν η εφαρμογή mPage παρουσιάζει πλεονεκτήματα έναντι της εφαρμογής mTouch και του web browser. Τα πλεονεκτήματα που εμφανίζονται και αναλύονται στην παρούσα διπλωματική οφείλονται στο γεγονός ότι η mPage επικοινωνεί με τη δική της web service και είναι σε θέση να ζητά μόνο τα δεδομένα που χρειάζεται. / The integration of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has changed significantly the field of education. Due to the adoption of the new technologies, e-learning has been emerged and developed. As a result, distance learning has transformed and new possibilities have appeared while m-learning gives new potentials. The m-learning will feature new strategies, practices, tools, applications, and resources to fulfill the promise of ubiquitous, personal, and connected learning, as it is based on the idea of learning with mobile devices anywhere at any time, providing greater ease of movement, connecting to a network and finally filled by new strategies and tools. Therefore, it offers independence. The aim of the thesis is to implement a system based on international technology standards for open, synchronous and asynchronous learning for mobile phones and especially for iPhones. The open source platform Moodle will be used and be extended and the system will meet all technical specifications as well as mobile phones require specific technical and functional requirements. More specifically, initiallly this thesis clarify key terms of learning and education as well as present briefly the types of education and learning. Then, it presents the current situation in the traditional Learning Management Systems and Adaptive e-Learning Systems. Based on an evaluation (Sabine 2005) conducted in nine open source platforms of elearning management system, we decided to use as a core system of our platform, a traditional learning management system, the Moodle, The main objective of the evaluation was the skills and the characteristics of such systems to be adaptive and personalized. Moodle received the highest evaluation in five out of eight criteria. The objective of this research was to find the best system of e-learning open source which will allow us to develop a mobile learning platform that combines the advantages of modern e-Learning Adaptive Systems, such as adaptability and customization with the essential features of traditional systems Learning Management, such as reuse and integration. An installation of Moodle took place in a server of Computer Engineering and Informatics and an extension carried out so that the courses appear to be customized to each student, the learning objectives, and the levels of knowledge and learning styles of each student, while are accessible from mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. mPage and mTouch applications installed on an iPhone to gain access to the courses of the platform from mobile devices Following experiments carried out proved that mPage has advantages over the mTouch and web browser to the fact that mPage communicates with its own web service and be able to request only the data needed.

Η εισαγωγή των νέων Τεχνολογιών της Πληροφορίας και των Επικοινωνιών (ΤΠΕ) στην εκπαίδευση αποτελεί πλέον γεγονός παγκοσμίως συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στη βελτίωση των διαδικασιών διδασκαλίας , μάθησης και απόκτησης γνώσεων αλλά και δημιουργώντας περιβάλλοντα για την ανάπτυξη ιδιαίτερων δεξιοτήτων . Καθοριστικό ρόλο στην πραγματικότητα αυτή έχει διαδραματίσει η ραγδαία ανάπτυξη του διαδικτύου και οι επιμέρους εφαρμογές του . Τα τελευταία χρόνια η πρόσβαση στον παγκόσμιο ιστό δεν περιορίζεται στους επιτραπέζιους υπολογιστές αλλά πλέον περιλαμβάνει τα κινητά τηλέφωνα , τα PDAs και γενικότερα κάθε είδους κινητή συσκευή . Μάλιστα στις αναπτυσσόμενες χώρες ο αριθμός των χρηστών που πλοηγούνται στον παγκόσμιο ιστό είναι μεγαλύτερος από τον αντίστοιχο αυτών που πλοηγούνται μέσω επιτραπέζιων υπολογιστών . Furthermore , in developing countries the number of users that browse the Web through mobile devices is larger than the number of users that browse the web from desktop PCs . As a natural consequence of the above facts a new kind learning has emerged and constantly been developed ever since : Mobile e-learning , based on the idea of learning with mobile devices anywhere at any time , which will feature new strategies , practices , tools, applications and resources to fulfill the promise of ubiquitous , personal and connected learning . The aim of this thesis is to study and compare the available applications, tools, Learning Management Systems and mobile Operating Systems in order to evaluate their educational potentials and to determine whether they are capable of contributing to providing effective mobile e-learning to their users .

Το Moodle είναι ένα ελεύθερο σύστημα διαχείρισης και δημιουργίας δυναμικών, ευέλικτων και ευχάριστων online μαθημάτων. Περιγράφεται ως CMS (Course Management System) ή VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), ενώ η φιλοσοφία του στηρίζεται στη διαπίστωση ότι ο άνθρωπος κατακτά τη γνώση όταν αλληλεπιδρά με το περιβάλλον. Στην παρούσα έρευνα περιγράφεται μία μελέτη περίπτωσης για την οποία μελετώνται η σχεδίαση, η ανάπτυξη, η υλοποίηση και η αξιολόγηση ενός Δικτυακού Περιβάλλοντος Υποστήριξης της Θεματικής Ενότητας (ΘΕ) ΠΛΗ37 του ΕΑΠ, κατά το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2010-2011. Το Δικτυακό Περιβάλλον της εν λόγω ΘΕ βασίστηκε στην πλατφόρμα Moodle και ο κύριος σκοπός της εργασίας είναι η μελέτη της σχεδίασης και ανάπτυξης καθώς και της εφαρμογής και αξιολόγησης ενός μαθήματος (ΘΕ ΠΛΗ37) σε προπτυχιακό επίπεδο με τη χρήση ενός υπολογιστικού περιβάλλοντος ασύγχρονης εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης (εξΑΕ), μέσω των αντιλήψεων, των στάσεων και των πρακτικών χρήσης των φοιτητών. Στα πλαίσια της έρευνας μελετήθηκε, επίσης, η συσχέτιση μεταξύ των πρακτικών χρήσης που ανέπτυξαν οι φοιτητές, και των επιδόσεων τους (τελική βαθμολογία) στην συγκεκριμένη ΘΕ. Για το σκοπό αυτό έγινε χρήση ερωτηματολογίου, πραγματοποιήθηκαν ατομικές συνεντεύξεις αλλά και αξιοποίηση των αρχείων καταγραφής που παρείχε το Moodle. Τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας έδειξαν ότι υπήρξε άμεση συσχέτιση των πρακτικών χρήσης που ανέπτυξαν οι φοιτητές με τις επιδόσεις τους και ότι οι φοιτητές απέκτησαν θετική στάση αναφορικά με τη χρήση της πλατφόρμας Moodle. / Moodle is a free Course Management System that allows the creation of dynamic, flexible and pleasant online courses. It is described as CMS (Course Management System) or VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), while it’s philosophy is supported in the ascertainment that the person conquers the knowledge when they interact with their environment. In the present research a case study is described, for which the designing, the development, the implementation and the evaluation of a network environment of EAP Thematic Unit PLI37 support is studied, during academic year 2010-2011. The network environment of the Thematic Unit was based on the Moodle platform and the main aim of this work is the study of the course (PLI37) designing and development, as well as its implementation and evaluation. This will be accomplished with the use of an environment of asynchronous remote education via the perceptions, the attitudes and the methods of the use of students. During the research the correlation between the methods of use that was developed by the students, and their records (final grades) in the particular Thematic Unit was studied thoroughly. For this reason, a questionnaire was used, individual interviews were conducted and there was exploitation of log files that were provided by “Moodle”. The results of this research showed not only that there was immediate relation between the (method of use) that the students developed with their records, but also that the students acquired positive attitude towards the use of Moodle.

Tal constatação suscitou a necessidade de buscarmos elementos para o enfrentamento dessa situação mediante a instauração de um processo de institucionalização da racionalidade comunicativa e o estabelecimento de grupo autônomos de estudo pesquisa no ambiente escolar / Within this work we intend to investigate how the new information and communication technologies, as the Moodle and others web 2.0 resources, can contribute to the enhancement of the communicative action of a group of science teachers in process of pre-service and permanent education, taking part in a research group. For this purpose we adopt the Communicative Action Theory of Jürgen Habermas as the main theoretical and methodological framework, associated with the critical action research method e multiple case studies method. The data obtained through questionnaire, observation, audio recording, and interactions among people in the virtual environment suggest that, as face to face interactions, virtual communication mediated by computers equally submitted to systemic imperatives that limit the teacher's autonomy and action. That fact arose the importance of searching elements to fight this situation through the instauration of a process of institutionalization of the communicative rationality and the establishment of autonomous research groups in the scholar environment

Investigamos o potencial colaborativo mediador das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC) livres, por meio da ferramenta de atividade wiki do Moodle. A meta era mudar o modo de produção no processo escolar presencial, semi-presencial e a distância e maior fluência em Ciência e Tecnologia na vida cotidiana. Propusemos a realização de um processo de investigação-ação escolar, com atividades de estudo mediadas pelo wiki do Moodle. Nos balizamos pelos conceitos de diálogo-problematizador, colaboração e autonomia, essenciais na interação escolar mediada pelas TIC livres, em especial nos Ambientes Virtuais de Ensino-Aprendizagem. Como resultado principal sinalizamos limites, desafios e avanços da referida mediação tecnológica educacional no escopo colaborativoescolar. / In this work we have investigated the collaborative mediation potential of free Communication and Information Technologies (CIT) present at the activity tool in Moodle's wiki. The objective was to change the way production occurs at presence, semi-presence and distance school processes and, to give greater fluency to Science and Technology in daily life. It was proposed the implementation of a school action research process with the school activities mediated by Moodle's wiki. We monitored our work with the concepts of a problem posing dialogue, collaboration and autonomy that are essential to school interactions mediated by free CIT, especially in a Virtual Teaching and Learning Environment. As a result from this work we delimitated the limits, challenges and advances of this educational technological mediation in a school collaborative scope.

A partir dessa reflexão, apresenta-se pesquisa de cunho descritivo, com estudo de casos múltiplos que objetiva investigar o acesso, o uso e o comportamento informacional dos usuários de sistemas de educação a distância na UFBA. Respaldado por uma fundamentação teórica que versou sobre os temas Informação e Sistemas de Informação; EAD; EAD na UFBA e Comportamento Informacional por meio dos autores Bertalanffy (1973, 2004), Litto e Formiga (2009), Shannon e Weaver (1975), Wilson (1996, 1999, 2000), entre outros. Os sujeitos da pesquisa são estudantes, tutores e professores de cursos de graduação, extensão e especialização da EAD. Como instrumentos de coleta de dados foram utilizadas fichas de coleta de dados e questionário. Os dados e informações obtidas durante a coleta foram tabulados no Excel e analisados por meio da técnica da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Nesse empreendimento de pesquisa, foram investigados o perfil dos usuários; o curso na modalidade a distância; os materiais informacionais para estudo; o comportamento informacional; as fontes de informação utilizadas; o acesso e uso do sistema Moodle; a teoria pedagógica adotada; a mediação realizada na tutoria; a comunicação entre os interlocutores e a opinião destes em relação aos cursos que participam. Os resultados demonstraram de modo geral, que os usuários em estudo veem os cursos de maneira positiva, embora, em parte, tenham muitas ressalvas em relação aos materiais didáticos e a interação. O acesso e o uso do sistema Moodle foram considerados satisfatórios, o que significa que a qualidade deste ambiente satisfaz e atende as necessidades dos cursos, porém podem ser aprimorados. Tais observações, apresentadas pelos usuários, podem embasar uma possível retroalimentação do sistema de EAD da UFBA, no sentido de aprimorá-lo. / ABSTRACT The education in the distance mode of Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), this is another way of fulfilling the mission of this institution, to spread the knowledge. Based on this discussion, we present a descriptive study, with multiple case study that aims to investigate the access, use and information behavior of users of distance education systems in UFBA. Backed by a theoretical framework that turned on the topics Information and Information Systems; EAD, the EAD Backed by a theoretical framework that turned on the topics Information and Information Systems; EAD; the distance education at UFBA and Informational behavior by authors Bertalanffy (1973, 2004), Litto and Formiga (2009), Shannon and Weaver (1975), Wilson (1996, 1999, 2000), among others. The subjects are students, tutors and teachers of undergraduate, extension and specialization of distance education. As a instruments for data collection forms were used to collect data and semi-structured questionnaire. The data and information obtained during the collection were tabulated in Excel and analyzed using the technique of content analysis of Bardin. In this research project, we investigated the profile of users, the course in the distance; informational materials for study, the information behavior, information sources used; the access and use of Moodle; pedagogical theory adopted; mediation held in mentoring, communication between the interlocutors and their opinion regarding the courses involved. The results showed, in general, users see study courses in a positive way, though, in part, have many reservations about the instructional materials and interaction. The access to and use of the Moodle system were satisfactory, which means that the quality of this environment satisfies and meets the needs of the courses, but can be improved. Such observations, submitted by users, may be the basis of a possible feedback system EAD Federal University of Bahia, in order to improve it.

Mineração de dados no Moodle: análise de prazos de entrega de atividadesTREGA DE ATIVIDADES / Analysis of assignment submissions deadlines in Moodle: a case study using data mining

Virtual Learning Environments became common practice as a course tool for both distance and presence learning courses, as they support the communication among the parties involved. This study describes research carried out on data that were generated by the interaction with the Moodle VLE within an educational institution, with focus on the analysis of due dates and actual submission dates for assignments in the course environment. The objective of this study is to obtain relevant information about how course assignments are posted in the learning environment, to guide actions supporting the reduction of submissions after the due date or close to the deadline, and to propose a transparent and automatic approach to integrating KDD activities to the Moodle environment, where the data mining stage is restricted to the algorithms selected within this study and the results are presented in a simplified manner within the user interface in the Moodle environment. The study considers the time the assignment remained open for posting, the course to which the assignment was proposed and the actual time when the assignment was posted into the environment. It was carried out following the steps of the knowledge discovery process in databases, using the Weka tool. As a result from the KDD process performed in our database, the number of postings that were closer to the final expiry date were higher for assignments longer than 15 days, graduate courses tended to have longer assignments than undergraduate courses, and they also presented a higher number of postings after the due date or close to the expiry date of the assignments. In this context, shorter assignments are recommended, in order to increase postings soon after the opening of assignments and to enable teachers to obtain faster feedback from the learning process undergone by the student. That makes possible to take corrective actions in shorter time in order to avoid student failure or dismissal. The implementation of the KDD process within Moodle enables the experimentation by users in an automatic and simplified manner. / Como ferramenta pedagógica, os Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem (AVA) tornaram-se prática comum para o ensino à distância como nos cursos presenciais, por dar apoio à comunicação entre os envolvidos com o ensino. Essa dissertação descreve uma pesquisa realizada sobre os dados gerados pela interação com o AVA Moodle de uma instituição de ensino, focando a análise de prazos e de datas efetivas de submissões de tarefas neste ambiente. O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar padrões relevantes sobre a postagem de tarefas no ambiente, para subsidiar ações em auxílio à postagem muito próximo ao final do período de postagem e propor uma forma transparente e automática de integrar ao Moodle as atividades de KDD. A ferramenta de integração proposta aborta os algoritmos de mineração de dados EM e J.48, selecionados no nosso estudo e os resultados são apresentados de forma simplificada aos usuários na própria interface do Moodle. Para o estudo, são considerados o período em que a tarefa permaneceu aberta para postagem, o curso proveniente da tarefa e o período em que a postagem foi realizada. O estudo foi realizado seguindo as etapas do processo de descoberta de conhecimento, com a utilização da ferramenta Weka. No estudo observou-se a incidência do número de postagens mais próximas ao término do tempo de postagem quando o prazo da mesma era superior a 15 dias. Nos cursos de pós-graduação, observa-se que o tempo para postagem é maior que nos cursos de nível superior e que esse nível apresenta maior quantidade de postagem sendo realizadas no final do prazo de postagem. Nesse contexto, é mais viável a realização de atividades com um prazo menor. Além de um maior número de submissões logo na abertura para postagem, o professor consegue feedback mais rápido do processo de aprendizagem do aluno. Isso possibilita tomar atitudes corretivas em tempo mais adequado a fim de evitar o insucesso ou desistência do aluno. Com a implementação da integração do KDD ao Moodle é possível a realização de experimentos por usuários de forma automática e simplificada.
