The Subjective, Dynamical, and Liberatory Sublime in Emily DickinsonChen, ¢Ûei-shu 28 August 2010 (has links)
Emily Dickinson, with a soul passing beyond the confines of mainstream gender ideology, religiosity, natural theology, transcendentalism, and literary conventions, creates the sublime in her poetry, which demonstrates her realization and manipulation of inspiring thoughts and liberating movements experienced where diverse conscience stirrings, ideologies, ideas, axioms and discourses intersect. Dickinsonian sublime offers an example for Jean-François Lyotard¡¦s discourses on the modern and postmodern sublime, which coincidentally mirror Dickinson¡¦s time, her personal response and reaction.
Liberating herself from the confines of gender ideology as well as female literary conventions, Dickinson invents her own self and identity, suggesting differences among women, who can be discontinuous and multiple instead of being a category with ¡§ontological integrity¡¨ (Judith Butler, Gender Trouble 23). She embodies a writer who creates according to her nature and experience as a sensitive person constantly investigating inwardly and outwardly, blurring traditionally-assigned gender distinctions, alternating between various roles, and reversing gendered traits instead of just being a subordinate advocate of mainstream domesticity, gender identity, or religiosity.
Not traveling on the path constructed by the traditional theological system but abolishing its authority over her thoughts, attitudes, deeds, or interpretations and manipulation of language, Dickinson interrogates received doctrines and develops her own understanding of religion, idiosyncratic employment of the Bible, and definition of language.
Inspired but not dominated by new sciences, natural theology, or transcendentalism, Dickinson cultivates and reinforces her ability to analyze, judge,
and examine things ¡§without respite, without rest, in one direction¡¨ but in all directions (Ralph Waldo Emerson, ¡§Intellect¡¨ 179), transcending the confines of both natural theology and optimistic transcendentalism while displaying her ¡§active soul,¡¨
"power of forming great conceptions¡¨ and ¡§vehement and inspired passion¡¨ (Longinus, ¡§On the Sublime¡¨ 80) and intending to be what is advocated in Emerson¡¦s ¡§The American Scholar¡¨¡X ¡§Man Thinking¡¨ (64).
Not conforming to literary traditions, Dickinson enters a realm of artistic experiment, representing a great poet reflecting the individualism and potentiality of American poetry in her age as well as in the modern and postmodern periods. Not making her readers passive receivers of messages or meanings, her idiosyncratic methods in rhyme, language, images, and syntax promote ¡§the sense of palpitant vigor¡¨ (Amy Lowell 7) and sublimity, repeatedly challenging, deconstructing, or activating her readers¡¦ thinking and various faculties.
As a self-reliant nonconformist experimenter with a Socratic philosophic spirit, her poetry of ¡§possibility¡¨ provokes ¡§polymorphous,¡¨ multiple, ¡§psychological¡¨ inspirations and creates a subjective, dynamical, and liberatory sublime.

Pledging to the Crowd : A Study on Value Constellations within the Crowdfunding IndustryMelander, Lina, Segall, Julia January 2015 (has links)
Research: In recent years the concept of crowdfunding, fundraising through social communities, has risen as an alternative for launching new creations and projects. The aim of this study was to explore the non-financial aspects of how interactive value is created through the social networks on a reward-based crowdfunding platform. This was done through investigating how creators on Kickstarter perceive value, approaching the social network from three different levels: the context, structure and practices. This study had a qualitative approach and 13 interviews were performed with key actors on the crowdfunding platform. A secondary study was performed gathering information about Kickstarter through their website. Findings: The result of this study suggests that there are non-financial benefits of being connected with an innovation network. The findings further indicate that the creators are utilizing the digital platforms to gain attention from the crowd and to connect with other networks. The study concludes that collective value is created through interactions on the crowdfunding platform. Further, the general attitude of authenticity within the crowdfunding context implies that the creators’ personal values and motives might play role for the rate success rates of new ventures.

Os dados mostram que há uma disputa particular dentro de cada estado e que cada eleição deve ser compreendida não só pelo histórico eleitoral de processos anteriores, mas também através de uma lógica interna própria ao momento em que ocorre. Essa equivocada polarização entre macrorregiões conduz o leitor a interpretar o voto a partir de uma lógica puramente econômica, ao passo que este estudo avança sobre a necessidade de pensar o eleitor sobre as multifaces do voto. / To affirm that the 2014 elections in Brazil resulted in the electoral division between North / Northeast and South / Southeast is not the best way to understand this political process. The data show that there is a particular dispute within each state and that each election must be understood not only by the electoral history of previous processes but also by an internal logic proper to the moment in which it occurs. This mistaken polarization between macro-regions leads the reader to interpret the vote from a purely economic logic, while this study advances the need to think about the multifaceted voters.

Analysis of a novel low-cost solar concentrator using lunar flux mapping techniques and ray-tracing modelsRoosendaal, Casey January 2020 (has links)
Concentrated solar power is a growing but expensive alternative energy resource. One of the most
common issues faced when it comes to solar dish design is the complex trade-off between cost and
optical quality. A novel solar dish reflector setup that makes use of low-cost, commercial television
satellite dishes to support aluminised plastic membranes in a multifaceted vacuum-membrane
concentrator was investigated in this work. The design aims to reduce costs while maintaining high
optical accuracy with the added benefit of optical adjustability. The flux distribution of the novel
solar dish reflector setup had to be determined to make recommendations on the feasibility of the
design. This research presents a method to determine the expected solar flux distribution from lunar
tests using a Canon EOS 700D camera. Experimental tests and different pollution treatment
methods were conducted using lunar flux mapping techniques. A numerical model of the
experimental setup, based on photogrammetry results of the membrane surface, was also developed
in SolTrace to ascertain the sources of error and allow for further design improvements. Preliminary
testing proved that JPEG image formats yielded insufficient accuracy in capturing the incident flux
when compared to RAW images. Based on the flux ratio maps, the intercept factor for a large
multifaceted dish setup was calculated as 88.6% for an aperture size of 0.25 m × 0.25 m, with a

Firstly, the essay definesthe concept of multi-faceted architecture and its constituents. Secondly, the essay supplies aframework for analysing Multifaceted architecture and a way of categorizing it. This essayaims at opening a deeper dialogue on architectural quality based upon theory from currentarchitectural theorists and architectural theory. Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / The purpose of this research study is to develop and describe a model to enhance the empowerment professional nurses to promote the recovery of people who have been diagnosed with depression. Depression is a prevalent psychiatric disorder that despite its increase
worldwide, often goes undetected or inadequately treated. The biomedical model's reductionist and dualistic approach proves to be inadequate for nursing practice to address depression and calls for the examination of a multifaceted holistic approach. A multifaceted holistic approach views disease as having multiple causes that are amenable to multiple therapeutic interventions. Despite research evidence about the effectiveness of such an approach, an in-dept literature search did not reveal the availability of such a model to enhance the empowerment of professional nurses to promote the recovery of people who have been diagnosed with depression. The research question that emerged was: • How can professional nurses in the Western Cape be empowered to promote the recovery of people who have been diagnosed with depression? The assumption is that this question was necessary to address. To realise the purpose of this research study, the following objectives were formulated: • To explore and describe the self reported attributes needed by professional nurses to promote the recovery of people who have been diagnosed with depression. • To explore and describe how these self reported attributes can be facilitated in the work environment. • To propose a model to enhance the empowerment of professional nurses to promote the recovery of people who have been diagnosed with depression. • To develop guidelines for the operationalisation of the model. The theoretical framework for this research study was adopted from the Critical Social Theory. The research design and method used was qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual in nature. The research was done in two phases. In phase one the researcher did semi- structured interviews with a
purposive and convenient sample of fourteen (14) professional nurses who were working in the Cape Town Metropolitan area and the West Coast.

Zimbabwe University (GZU) comes in two major phases spread over four years - the
theoretical and the practical based phases. The theoretical phase comes in the form of courses
based on pedagogical content and professional knowledge in the initial years at the university
while the practical based phase comes in the form of school-based Teaching Practice (TP)
for real and direct teaching experiences. The initial theoretical phase is often based on the
liberal arts-like education to develop the whole teacher for adaptable life-long service. This
is translated by a number of subject that can vary according the dictates of the focus of a
particular national curriculum. TP on the other hand, provides student-teachers the
opportunity to apply not only the knowledge acquired in the initial phase but also the schoolbased
curriculum they are immersed in plus other contextual experiences they might have.
If well-structured and blended, the two phases may ensure a smooth transition from a novice
student teacher to an expert professional teacher for long-life practice.

Moving toward evidence-based practice: a research utilization capacity building programFernandes, Angeline 30 August 2022 (has links)
Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) are reporting low levels of research application in everyday practice, causing a low frequency of evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation (Krueger et al., 2020; Myers, 2019a). A review of the literature demonstrates that individual level factors, such as lack of knowledge, skill, time, and resources for research use, coupled with organizational factors, such as low priority, support, and expectation for EBP, act as barriers to EBP (Wang et al., 2019). This doctoral project aims to build the capacity for research use at both the practitioner and the organization levels through an evidence-based multifaceted intervention program. It will impact the knowledge and skill for understanding and applying research evidence in practice and the frequency of research use in daily practice among school-based occupational therapy practitioners (Sb-OTPs), as well as the organization’s resources, priorities, and environment to support EBP. A mixed-methods design will be used, with a convenience sample of nineteen Sb-OTPs employed at a therapy agency that provides services through contract positions to local school districts. The program consists of four main components of education, provision of resources, working in groups, and organizational supports. The Knowledge-To-Action (KTA) framework (Graham et al., 2009) provides a context-focused iterative process to the program design, from problem identification to sustainability. Continual involvement of all stakeholders, assessment of barriers to tailor the intervention, and adaptation of the knowledge for use in the practice context are KTA-based core program features. The education component is informed by Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) (Bandura, 1986), brain-based learning strategies (Willis, 2006; Yee & Boyd, 2018), and literature supporting blended learning and digital health education formats (Brown et al., 2020; Hew & Lo, 2018; Liu et al., 2016). The program description, implementation, research evaluation plan, and program funding and dissemination are described in detail.

Three Portraits of S. Kovalevsky: Interpretation of S. Kovalevsky’s life and creativity in the works by P. Ja. Kochina, A. C. Leffler and A. Munro This research puts forward the hypothesis that S. Kovalevsky was an example of a multifaceted talent: an outstanding mathematician, writer and public figure simultaneously. As such, the basis of the phenomenon that is S. Kovalevsky is the ingenious synthesis of the various facets of creativity. An attempt was made to achieve a better understanding of the multifaceted life and creativity of S. Kovalevsky though a comparative study of the perceptions of Kovalevsky put forward by the Swedish writer, A.C. Leffler (1892), and that of the Russian biographer, P. Ja. Kochina (1981), and that of the Canadian writer, A. Munro (2009), Nobel laureates in literature 2013. Similarities and differences in the interpretations and understanding of the life and creativity of S. Kovalevsky between the Swedish, Russian and Canadian authors were identified and an important part was to define which image of S. Kovalevsky appears in the analysis of the authors. Another essential component was to identify which image dominates, that of Kovalevsky as a mathematician, as a writer or as a public figure. A table, containing the results of a comparative analysis using the maximum number of identified, scientifically sound parameters, is also presented in the study for a clearer picture of the perception of S. Kovalevsky’s image presented by the three writers. Twenty-four such comparative parameters were identified. The article concludes with possible prospects for further research on the subject.
