Abdul-Al, Mohamed, Kyeremeh, George K., Ojaroudi Parchin, Naser, Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Qahwaji, Rami S.R., Rodriguez, J. 27 October 2021 (has links)
Yes / Biometric authentication is the science and engineering of assessing and evaluating bioinformatics from the human body in order to increase system security by providing reliable and accurate behaviors and classifiers for personal identification and authentication. Its solutions are widely used in industries, governments, and the military. This paper reviews the multimodal biometric systems that integrated both faces and fingerprints as well as shows which one has the best accuracy and hardware complexity with the methods and databases. Several methods have been used in multimodal biometric systems such as KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor), CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), PCA (Principal Component Analysis), and so on. A multimodal biometric system for face and fingerprints that uses an FoM (Figure of Merit) to compare and show between the articles the best accuracy that have used multimodal biometric system face and fingerprints methods. The best performance has been found is 99.43% by using the cascade multimodal method. / Horizon-MSCA-RISE-2019-2023, Marie Sklodowska-Curie

Hassel, Per-Magnus January 2012 (has links)
Background: Pain from the musculoskeletal system is the cause of sick leave. To reinforce the medical rehabilitation the Social Ministries did an agreement with Sweden's municipalities and county councils 2008; the rehab warranty. The effort that would receive performance bonuses was multimodal rehabilitation. In the county council of Dalarna they have been starting multi-modal teams of the resources of the rehab warranty. This thesis describes the start of one of these teams and factors that staff perceived important for teambuilding and work. Purpose: Aim for the improvement: Patients with chronic pain should receive prompt and adequate care from a team that has experience and knowledge to work together. Study questions: What effects for the patients can be connected to the attempts to create multi-modal rehabilitation in a primary care practice? What factors, experienced by staff at the centre, has influenced the creation of the pain team at the centre? Method: A mixed methods study with several methods for collecting results. Open interviews with personnel, structured telephone interviews with patients and journal review. Results: The pain team has managed to influence patients’ possibilities to return to work. Patients perceived the rehabilitation process positively when they could participate in the care in the making of a rehab plan. The factors that staff experience has affected team building were: purpose, measurements, patient centeredness, cooperation, environment, commitment, information, support from management, and time. Discussion: Whether you focus on team-building or on improvement work some factors remain important. Among these factors are a clear plan for the work that the participants align to and continuous measurements to increase the engagement for the participants in the team and others that is affected of the teams work. Further research is needed about teamwork in rehabilitation of pain patients and the economic consequences it brings. Is it multimodal rehabilitation that gives good effects or could intermediate rehabilitation be an alternative for small organisations?

Kommunikation - vad är det? : En studie av musikalisk kommunikation i ensemblesammanhang / Communication - what is that? : A study of musical communication in music ensembles

Larsson, Sanna January 2014 (has links)
The study focuses on how singers communicate with their fellow musicians in music ensembles considering the multimodal perspective of communication and learning conditions. With the help of video recordings of my own communication within an ensemble I have analysed which semiotic resources that are used and my underlying intentions with them. The result shows that the communication between the group members first are established after a while into the learning process and that the singing part shows to be the prime communicator for me in this case where dynamic, articulating and playfulness indicate security or insecurity about the form of the song and the melody. It also works as a guide to where I am at in the learning process. In the chapter on discussion I present, among other things, how the first ensemble lesson is created due to the multimodal perspective on favourable learning conditions and also the importance of body language for favourable communication in music ensembles.

Approches de résolution multiobjective séquentielle et parallèle pour les réseaux de transports multimodaux / Sequential and parallel approaches to solve multiobjective and multimodal transport networks

Ayed, Hedi 10 November 2011 (has links)
L’algorithme hybride combinant la rapidité des méta-heuristiques et la complétude des méthodes exactes a donné de meilleurs résultats / The focus of this thesis is about multi-modal, multi-objective and time-dependent in passengers transport networks. We propose itineraries processing solutions that satisfy the user needs, as much as possible. The first part of our contributions begins with the definition of the transfer-graph model that is consistent with the distributed nature of multi-modal transport networks. Based on this model, we propose several itineraries processing algorithms. We have been interested, in a second part of this thesis, in developing multi-objective solutions to satisfy more constraints at the same time. We first experimented the time-dependent version of an exact algorithm based on Martins. We then proposed a solution based on a genetic algorithm. Both of these approaches are limited because of either excessive time response or memory space limit. The hybrid algorithm which combines the speed of meta-heuristics and completeness of exact methods, provide better results

Design and Development of a Continuous Precast Prestressed Concrete Bridge System for the Multimodal Freight Shuttle Project

Parkar, Anagha 1984- 16 December 2013 (has links)
The growth of freight transportation within the United States and across borders is tremendous, and it is expected to double over the next decade. The congestion due to increasing pressure of the freight, mainly transported by truck, is affecting the safety and serviceability of the existing transportation system. The proposed Multimodal Freight Shuttle (MFS) system offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method to transport containerized, intercity or port-to-terminal freight, and it alleviates the problem of severe deterioration of the outgrown capacity of existing highways. The Multimodal Freight Shuttle (MFS) system requires a continuous elevated guideway to be constructed for the freight shuttle. This research investigates the viability of a continuous precast bridge system for the freight shuttle. A number of design alternatives for the various bridge components are provided, and the merits of the different types are assessed from design, construction, in-service performance and life-cycle cost points-of-view. Based on the comparative designs, it was found that a bridge system built of fully precast components is the most promising. This included a combination of precast prestressed concrete trough-girders, with a modular precast concrete sub-structure. Due to the significant length of the proposed structural system, the construction sequence is important so that the progress can be made to enable the work force to advance by one span per day. Thus, the steps for construction of the bridge have been schematically presented and sequentially explained.

Alignment of speech and co-speech gesture in a constraint-based grammar

Saint-Amand, Katya January 2013 (has links)
This thesis concerns the form-meaning mapping of multimodal communicative actions consisting of speech signals and improvised co-speech gestures, produced spontaneously with the hand. The interaction between speech and speech-accompanying gestures has been standardly addressed from a cognitive perspective to establish the underlying cognitive mechanisms for the synchronous speech and gesture production, and also from a computational perspective to build computer systems that communicate through multiple modalities. Based on the findings of this previous research, we advance a new theory in which the mapping from the form of the combined speech-and-gesture signal to its meaning is analysed in a constraint-based multimodal grammar. We propose several construction rules about multimodal well-formedness that we motivate empirically from an extensive and detailed corpus study. In particular, the construction rules use the prosody, syntax and semantics of speech, the form and meaning of the gesture signal, as well as the temporal performance of the speech relative to the temporal performance of the gesture to constrain the derivation of a single multimodal syntax tree which in turn determines a meaning representation via standard mechanisms for semantic composition. Gestural form often underspecifies its meaning, and so the output of our grammar is underspecified logical formulae that support the range of possible interpretations of the multimodal act in its final context-of-use, given the current models of the semantics/ pragmatics interface. It is standardly held in the gesture community that the co-expressivity of speech and gesture is determined on the basis of their temporal co-occurrence: that is, a gesture signal is semantically related to the speech signal that happened at the same time as the gesture. Whereas this is usually taken for granted, we propose a methodology of establishing in a systematic and domain-independent way which spoken element(s) gesture can be semantically related to, based on their form, so as to yield a meaning representation that supports the intended interpretation(s) in context. The ‘semantic’ alignment of speech and gesture is thus driven not from the temporal co-occurrence alone, but also from the linguistic properties of the speech signal gesture overlaps with. In so doing, we contribute a fine-grained system for articulating the form-meaning mapping of multimodal actions that uses standard methods from linguistics. We show that just as language exhibits ambiguity in both form and meaning, so do multimodal actions: for instance, the integration of gesture is not restricted to a unique speech phrase but rather speech and gesture can be aligned in multiple multimodal syntax trees thus yielding distinct meaning representations. These multiple mappings stem from the fact that the meaning as derived from gesture form is highly incomplete even in context. An overall challenge is thus to account for the range of possible interpretations of the multimodal action in context using standard methods from linguistics for syntactic derivation and semantic composition.

Isomorphic Categories

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: Learning and transfer were investigated for a categorical structure in which relevant stimulus information could be mapped without loss from one modality to another. The category space was composed of three non-overlapping, linearly-separable categories. Each stimulus was composed of a sequence of on-off events that varied in duration and number of sub-events (complexity). Categories were learned visually, haptically, or auditorily, and transferred to the same or an alternate modality. The transfer set contained old, new, and prototype stimuli, and subjects made both classification and recognition judgments. The results showed an early learning advantage in the visual modality, with transfer performance varying among the conditions in both classification and recognition. In general, classification accuracy was highest for the category prototype, with false recognition of the category prototype higher in the cross-modality conditions. The results are discussed in terms of current theories in modality transfer, and shed preliminary light on categorical transfer of temporal stimuli. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Psychology 2011

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / We aim to show that a literary production in an iconographic form is also literature and it is by implication necessary to find ways to enable readers to approach it in a creative and interesting manner with the goal of concretizing it by reading. We have drawn as a corpus for this paper on Atlas of human experience by Dutch cartographers Louise van Swaaly and Jean Klare. We have derived our foundation from the semiotic and semiolinguistic approach as well as from the principles of Jauss and Iser, reception theorists who provide the reader with a role as a coauthor. We have likewise delved into Hermeneutics, as it is viewed by Heidegger and Paul Ricoeur, and connected it with the essentials of reception theory. From text genre we proceeded to Classical Antiquity seeking in Plato and Aristotle the construct of mimesis, the origin of the work of art, as well as the various types of literary genre which have shaped literature over the centuries. To attain our goal, we have shaped the conception of literature based on Terry Eagleton’s work, which made us embark on an all-pervasive survey from the early times up to the present age, all the way from the literal concept down to the theories arising after the Russian formalists. The historical-critic approach emerging there from has led us to realize how deep literature’s social influence is and, likewise, how it has enriched itself from human experience upon getting rid of the rigidity of its norms. Based on this theoretical framework, we have brought four maps into analysis, out of the twenty-one making up the work, chosen in accordance with the historic-literary aspects on which the survey has been grounded. As our goal is to be of help to those committed to teaching - who believe in reading as a power affording a way out of ambivalent situations - we have systematized procedures to render effectual the development of interpretive skills among students.
