Min utgångspunkt i projektet har varit att försöka hitta ett sätt att förhålla mig till den befintliga byggnaden, och därigenom låta det nya bli en tydlig del av det redan existerande. Jag har velat hitta en "enkelhet" eller självklarhet i hur den nya byggnaden utformas. Förslaget innebär ett adderande av en ny våning ovanpå den befintliga byggnaden, och blir därmed som en fortsättning av den. Tillbyggnaden har till sin yttre form och formspråk tydliga likheter med den nuvarande museibyggnaden, men den skiljer sig åt genom att den är utförd i ett annat material. Där den äldre byggnaden visar upp en stenfasad där varje bit genom hantverksskicklighet huggits ut till lagom stora bitar, har det nya istället med hjälp av ett mer industriellt tillvägagångssätt genom prefabricerade betongelement uppnått samma detaljeringsgrad. Studerar man fasaden på den befintliga byggnaden finner man att trots stora likheter skiljer sig ändå de olika våningsplanen åt i utseende. Genom adderandet av en extra våning läggs bara ännu en del till i den stapel som utgör hela byggnaden. / My starting point in this project has been to try to find a way to relate to the existing building, thus allowing the new to be a clear part of the existing one. I have wanted to find a simplicity in the way the new building continues from the existing. The proposal involves an addition of a new floor on top of the existing building, and thus becomes a continuation of it. The extension has to its external form and idiom distinct similarities with the current museum building, but it differs in that it is made of a different material. Where the older building showcases a stone facade where each piece through craftsmanship carved into bite-sized pieces, the new is rather using a more industrial approach by precast concrete to achieve the same degree of detail. Studying the facade of the existing building, one finds that despite many similarities, the different stories still from each other in appearance. By adding an additional floor is just another part of the pile added that represents the entire building.
