Data extraction of digitized old newspaper content to streamline the search process for users with a genealogy perspective

Pettersson, Sandra January 2019 (has links)
This thesis presents the data extraction of digitized old newspaper content and the implementation of a search function to simplify for the user. This is developed as a master’s degree project at Linköping University. The application allows the user to search for interesting content in a database of articles and can be used by both genealogists, local historians and novices. The database is filled with data from OCR scanned newspapers and the user can either search the database by their own or with the help of their family tree. The family tree is implemented by reading the users GEDcom file and extracting useful information that is then used to get better search results. The result is returned to the user in the form of digital articles. The work concludes that the information from GEDcom files can be used to find new interesting facts and that the user should be allowed to affect how the data is reduced, in the form of article categorization and filtering.

Characterization Of Online Archives Of Astronomical Imaging Vis-a-vis Serendipitous Asteroids, And Their Astrometric Properties

Denis, Jean Marc 01 January 2012 (has links)
The identification of known asteroids on existing CCD pictures would allow us to obtain accurate astrometric and photometric asteroid properties. Some asteroids might have ambiguous orbital elements, thus their identification along with their exact positions on multiple picture frames could significantly improve their orbital elements. Furthermore, the possibility of identifying known asteroids on older pictures, sometimes preceding their discovery date, might allow the study of non-gravitational effects like the Yarkovsky effect. Identifying a potential Yarkovsky effect on asteroids is challenging because it is extremely weak. However, this effect cumulates with time, therefore, it is necessary to find astronomical pictures that are as old as possible. In addition, we need to collect high quality CCD pictures and use a methodology that would allow obtaining a statistically significant sample of asteroids. To accomplish this, we decided to use the online archive of the Subaru telescope at Mauna Kea Hawaii because it has a prime-focus camera with a very high resolution of 80 millions pixels very well suited to capture serendipitous asteroids. In addition, the Subaru online archive has pictures from the last 10 years. iv The methodology used in this thesis is to build a database that contains the orbital elements of all the known asteroids, allowing us to write a program that calculates the approximate position of all the asteroids at the date and time of each CCD picture we collect. To obtain a more precise position, the program also interfaces the JPL NASA Horizons on-line computation service. Every time an asteroid is found on a picture, Horizons sends its theoretical location back to the program. A later visual identification of this asteroid at this theoretical location on the picture triggers its input into our sample for further study. This method allowed us to visually confirm 508 distinct asteroids on 692 frames with an average diameter of 3.6 km. Finally, we use the theory (given in appendix A) to calculate the theoretical drift of these asteroids that we compare with the one we measured on the CCD pictures.

Optimalizace strukturovaných dotazů nad rozsáhlými databázemi / Optimization of Structured Queries on Large Databases

Janeček, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with optimization of structured queries on large databases. Principles of these optimizations are used during creation of application, which allows finding over one specific large database. At the same time this thesis compares efficiency between the new designed SQL constructions and the not optimized SQL constructions.

Komunikační software pro terminálové klienty linuxového serveru / Communiacation software for terminal clients of a Linux server

Hanák, Karel January 2009 (has links)
The thesis contains a proposal and implementation of an environment convenient for operation of network client applications which use common terminals. It also consists of implemented examples where the way of their usage is presented. The centralized way of communication is the basis. The approach is used also for the possibility of their joining with managing subsystems, i.e. unlimited ways of regulation of systems for real estate management, access to devices, user authority access to access data points to the devices. The environment is based on operation system Linux and database MySQL. Their realization is supposed on a server, in the network environment. This relates also to the overall security policy and this work also focused on social treatment of clients possibilities.

Workshop webbapplikation : Utveckling av Webbtjänst för pluggstugan vid KTH ICT / Workshop Web Application : Development of Web Application for "pluggstuga" at KTH ICT

Firouzi, Abdul Rahman January 2014 (has links)
The Royal Institute of Technology has recently arranged so-called "workshops" to help students with their studies. These workshops give students the opportunity to receive help from assistants. The purpose of this project is to make the administration of the workshop sessions as efficient and seamless as possible. To achieve this purpose, a web application has been designed in Netbeans the development environment and is based on three-layer architecture. This has been implemented using the Scrum development methodology and the Java programming language. Great emphasis was placed on creating a modular application with focus on sustainable development. The result is a web application that can be accessed via mobile devices, tablets, and stationary units. Its performance has been tested and the web application is thus ready to be tested in order to evaluate its effectiveness and impact on the workshop activities.

Analýza dat síťové komunikace mobilních zařízení / Analysis of Mobile Devices Network Communication Data

Abraham, Lukáš January 2020 (has links)
At the beginning, the work describes DNS and SSL/TLS protocols, it mainly deals with communication between devices using these protocols. Then we'll talk about data preprocessing and data cleaning. Furthermore, the thesis deals with basic data mining techniques such as data classification, association rules, information retrieval, regression analysis and cluster analysis. The next chapter we can read something about how to identify mobile devices on the network. We will evaluate data sets that contain collected data from communication between the above mentioned protocols, which will be used in the practical part. After that, we finally get to the design of a system for analyzing network communication data. We will describe the libraries, which we used and the entire system implementation. We will perform a large number of experiments, which we will finally evaluate.
