Za zrkadlom slovenskej identity / Behind the mirror of identity

Juráš, Ján January 2017 (has links)
Does the question of collective identity still remain in the hands of companies and institutions, or is it rather becoming an uncontrolled marketable commodity and a victim of the economic opportunism and growing nationalism? What selfidentifying legacy is Slovakia building today? On the one hand we live in the era of historically high economic prosperity, on the other hand we are not creating environment which would help us to identify ourselves. The commercial buildings have become the despotic temples of today's cities. The public buildings are turning into stage props in the name of fnancial “optimization”. Ideological and physical environment of educational and cultural institutions sufers from being underfnanced in comparison with the European average. The eforts to put an end to the 1990s’ provincionalism and to redefne our social self-esteem are suppressed at the expense of the boundless polished ofce areas. The thesis is a critical refection of Slovak politics in the context of education and culture. By puting together seemingly disparate felds of science and fne arts the author

Bautzen a Budyšin: Jazykové ideologie v hlavním městě Lužických Srbů / Bautzen and Budyšin: Language Ideologies in the Capital City of Sorbs

Škrob, Jan January 2015 (has links)
In this thesis, I attempt to describe and analyse language ideologies relevant in the specific situation of the Sorbian minority in the city of Bautzen (Sorbian: Budyšin) - a city with a clear German majority at the same time considered a cultural, social and political centre of Sorbs - with a special emphasis on links between language and nationalism. Focusing on these links, I also examine the specific role of language for maintainance of Sorbian national identity. I also view Sorbian language ideologies in the broader context of social and political relations in and around Bautzen, whereas I, among other topics, inquire into recently significant hatred of local German radical right towards the Sorbian minority. At the same time, I attempt to capture the power relations between German and Sorbian languages. Apart from the paradigm of language ideologies, I am also informed by works of certain poststructuralist authors, especially due to their emphasis on constructivism regarding identities and language mechanisms. Keywords: language, language ideologies, nationalism, language nationalism, identities, national identity, ethnicity, language and power, Sorbian, German, language and politics, language contact

Revue Národní myšlenka 1923-1939 / Národní myšlenka revue (1923-1939)

Hercik, Richard January 2015 (has links)
This thesis approaches the ideological orientation, opinion stands and the profile of the revue Národní myšlenka, which was published in the Czechoslovak Republic in years 1923- 1939. The thesis describes historical context, which revue Národní myšlenka was established in, presents the most important personalities of the editorial board of Národní myšlenka - JUDr. Vlastimil Klíma and JUDr. Ladislav Rašín, and approaches content of the selected volumes of Národní myšlenka, whose choice was done in view of important political events of Czechoslovakia. Revue Národní myšlenka was ideologically based on tthe concept of integral nationalism, was far-right, anti-german and antisocialist oriented and was closely connected with the Czechoslovak National democratic party (or more precisely with its Young generation), despite of the fact, that Národní myšlenka always defined itself strictly as the independent magazine. The thesis also contains a part describing original journalistic figure, in this thesis called glossed quotations, which was used by the editorial board of Národní myšlenka for brief and apt declaration of fundamental ideas or statements of eminent personalities of domestic and foreign politics. Keywords Revue, national idea, integral nationalism, monthly journal, Vlastimil Klíma, Ladislav...

Nacionalistický diskurz v Bosně a Hercegovině - obraz občanské války z let 1992-1995 v současných bosenskosrbských a bosňáckých médiích / Nationalist Discourse in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Civil War Images from 1992-1995 in Current Bosnian-Serb and Bosniak Media

Janíčko, Michal January 2014 (has links)
(in English): The thesis deals with representations of civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the media that are influential among Bosniaks and Bosnian Serbs. The introduction summarizes the course of the war and briefly presents current social situation in the country. The nature of media field and of the media as such are described with use of existing analyses and research and with use of available information on media ownership. Continuing ethnic division of media is observed. The thesis uses critical discourse analysis both as a theoretic approach to discourse and as a methodological tool to its study. The civil war discourse in Bosniak and Bosnian Serb media is represented in the analysis by two daily newspapers on each side. The analysis showed mutually incompatible representations of causes and of the nature of the war, prevailing absence of their mutual dialogue and ignorance of war victims of the other side. Looking at more specific topics, a number of discourses are identified on both sides, among which there are some with potential to dialogue with alternative representations. The discourses are interpreted through Bosniak and Bosnian Serb nationalist ideologies.

Nacionalismus v Srbsku na konci 20. století: Zločin a turbofolk jako krytí autokracie / Nationalism in Serbia at the end of the 20th century: Crime and turbofolk as a cover to autocracy

Duric, Jovana January 2019 (has links)
Crime and turbofolk as a cover to autocracy? Nationalism in Serbia at the end of the 20th century Abstract: In this MA. thesis it will be investigated how, by the influence of the politics of Milosevic in the 1990s, implemented by the political elite gathered around him, a rise of crime, war profiteering and the development of a new popular culture genre of turbofolk appeared in Serbia. Such socio-political conditions, supported by a strong media propaganda by the regime, turned out to be the key pillars of Milosevic's autocratic rule. Special emphasis will be given to a new cultural phenomenon that struck this region in the period - the phenomenon of "turbofolk" as the dominant music genre of the time, that completes the picture of Serbian society during the 1990s. Overwhelmed with elements of kitsch and baroque, this popular music genre which originated in the restaurants of central Serbia suburbs, has become an unavoidable part of everyday life of young people, whose new idols were individuals who measured their success by the number and importance of their criminal ventures. The emergence of turbofolk, therefore, is considered in light of the birth of the new socio-political circumstances. But it is interesting to note that turbofolk, with some adjustments, remains the dominant musical genre in Serbia...

Geneze běloruské národní identity (1863-1958) / Genesis of the Belarussian National Identity (1863-1958)

Linitskaya, Natallia January 2012 (has links)
The study follows the process of the construction of belarussian national identity between the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries in terms of community of name, language, territory and historical memories. This subjective foundation of a nation does not blend in the belarussian case with the civic model. Historical memory of Kalinovski's Uprising demonstrates the dubiousness of using a common historical past which itself corresponds with that of Russia and Poland. On the contrary, the allocating of belarussian national identity according to social demands was convinient. Unsuccesful vindication of the historical legacy of "Litva" and the failure of Belarussian to become the language of bureaucracy caused a decoupling of the genealogical bonds from the national identity. The longing of "tutejshi" for social happiness facilitated the appropriation of national identity as essentially a soviet one. Belarussians are becoming Belarussians as toiling people who are emancipated in a national state, deliniated by the colonial map. Keywords: Belarus, national identity, nationalism, national state, belorussification, «tutejshi»

Liturgie revoluce: Politická teologie Patricka Pearse mezi katolicismem a modernismem / The Liturgy of Revolution: Political Theory of Patrick Pearse between Catholicism and Modernism

Ruczaj, Maciej January 2015 (has links)
Dublin Easter Rising of 1916 is widely recognized as an example of an intersection between nationalism and religion due to its use of the Christian symbolism of redemption via sacrifice. The religious aura, surrounding its leader and main ideologue, Patrick Pearse, was both a source of his posthumous "triumph" - the Irish independence shaped to a large extent by his legacy, and his "black legend" of the spiritual father of the sectarian violence in the twentieth century Irish politics. Due to the high degree of politicization of the debate over Pearse's role in Irish history, his intellectual legacy was rarely treated sine ira et studio. After a delineation of the problematic legacy of Pearse in the context of Irish Studies and the general introduction to the theme of the relations between nationalism and religion, this work proceeds to the re-examination of the place of religion in Pearse's thought. Pearse's conceptualization of Irish nationalism should be perceived as a synthesis emerging from the interplay between his deep indebtedness to the religious mind-frame and the Romantic and modernist influences that shaped the atmosphere of the pre-1914 Europe. It is based on a structural analogy between the Church and the nation. The analogy is created by means of a mechanism of the transposition of...

Společenská třída, sexualita a nacionalismus: konstrukce identity v prózách Brendana Behana / Class, Sexuality and Nationalism: Identity Building in the Prose Writing of Brendan Behan

Lamprecht, Nathalie January 2021 (has links)
Nathalie Lamprecht Abstract Class, Sexuality and Nationalism: Identity Building in the Prose Writings of Brendan Behan focuses on Irish author, playwright and rebel Brendan Behan's prose fiction. It uses notions of Irish autobiography, memory and narrativity in order to analyse his collected short stories, his only crime novel The Scarperer and his columns, originally published in the Irish Press, as well as his most extensive work, the autobiographical novel Borstal Boy. Due to the autobiographical nature of most of these texts, throughout this thesis biographies of the author function as co-texts. The aim of this thesis is to find out how Behan uses the themes of class, sexuality and nationalism in order to create identity in his prose. Mostly, the author is critical of his time's accepted version of Irishness, creating characters principally based on himself that do not fit the mould.

Koncept jednotlivce a lidu v nacistické ideologii. Ideologická prehistorie a uchopení moci nacisty / Individual-Volk Concept in Nazi Ideology: Ideological Prehistory and Nazi Power-Seizure

Chen, Qian January 2019 (has links)
The Nazi utopian ideal Volksgemeinschaft, both as a core concept in the Nazi ideology and a vocal point in German ideological history, attempting to build up the national community in the German particular way, has contributed as the key element to contrive people's consent both in achieving the Nazi power-seizure and in forming the dynamics in the Third Reich. The term itself involves, however, not only an exploration of shaping a national community of the German people united under denotations like Volk, Gemeinschaft, Volksgemeinschaft, but also redefined the boundaries and relations between the individuals within to this community. This paper aims to present the trials in the German ideological history in pursuing national unity through community building as a foreground, to put forth an explanation for Nazi reception in the interwar German circumstances: the Nazi interpretation of national community under Volksgemeinschaft, its similarities and divergencies from the former community concepts, the efficacy and power in winning public at its takeover and thirteen-year-long national practice. The analytical structure of the entire paper is tailored according to this research design, starting from national endeavor in the German ideological history, followed by extensive analysis of Weimar Germany...
