Cestička k domovu / The Path Home

Hauser, Filip Unknown Date (has links)
The central idea of this project named “My way home” (the project’s name was inspired by Karel Václav Rais’s poem of the same name) is the work with the memory of a landscape. The project concerns a 700-metre-long area which is part of what used to be a road near Stráž nad Nežárkou. First of all, I try to return the road its original purpose. Also, I try to find out its historic foundation. Finally, I try to return the road its integrity. The road used to go from the village of Dvorce to the now cancelled Gabler’s mill (house number 98) in Stráž nad Nežárkou. The Diploma also includes an observation of the changes of the landscape near the village. The Diploma itself consists of three phases: The road, apple trees, The object.

Assessing the motivators and barriers of interorganizational GIS data sharing for address data in South Africa

Sebake, Malete Daniel 22 January 2013 (has links)
Address data within geographic information systems (GIS) is used as reference data to link personal and administrative information, thus making it possible to locate and deliver goods and services to eligible persons. Preferably, every country must develop and maintain a single national address database (NAD) to eliminate data redundancy and provide a common point of reference across the board. In South Africa, the challenge is that there are separate address databases, which are developed and maintained by various public and private organizations – with little or no cooperation on data sharing. Currently, the establishment of a Committee for Spatial Information (CSI) which is tasked with the implementation of the South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI) and the publication of the South African Address Standard (SANS 1883) offer organizations an opportunity to collaborate towards the creation of a single address dataset. This research posits that the implementation of a successful data sharing initiative depends on the understanding of motivators and barriers of organizations participating in it. The research applied the case study method – with a semi-structured questionnaire – to assess the issues that motivate or obstruct GIS data sharing among three address organizations in South Africa. The results identified significant motivators that underlie the data sharing activities, e.g. reduced cost of data collection, improved data quality; and equally identified significant barriers that make organizations reluctant to enter into a data sharing initiative, e.g. data copyright and ownership, high staff-turnover, and lack of financial and technical resources. Although the case studies focused on address data in South Africa, the research findings can equally apply to other spatial datasets and are relevant for the successful implementation of the South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI). / Dissertation (MIT)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Computer Science / Unrestricted

Hepatic NAD+ levels and NAMPT abundance are unaffected during prolonged high-fat diet consumption in C57BL/6JBomTac mice

Dall, Morten, Penke, Melanie, Sulek, Karolina, Matz-Soja, Madlen, Holst, Birgitte, Garten, Antje, Kiess, Wieland, Treebak, Jonas T. 02 March 2020 (has links)
Dietary supplementation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) precursors has been suggested as a treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obesity. In the liver, NAD+ is primarily generated by nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), and hepatic levels of NAMPT and NAD+ have been reported to be dependent on age and body composition. The aim of the present study was to identify time course-dependent changes in hepatic NAD content and NAD+ salvage capacity in mice challenged with a high-fat diet (HFD). We fed 7-week-old C57BL/6JBomTac male mice either regular chow or a 60% HFD for 6, 12, 24, and 48 weeks, and we evaluated time course-dependent changes in whole body metabolism, liver steatosis, and abundance of hepatic NAD-associated metabolites and enzymes. Mice fed a 60% HFD rapidly accumulated fat and hepatic triglycerides with associated changes in respiratory exchange ratio (RER) and a disruption of the circadian feeding pattern. The HFD did not alter hepatic NAD+ levels, but caused a decrease in NADP+ and NADPH levels. Decreased NADP+ content was not accompanied by alterations in NAD kinase (NADK) abundance in HFD-fed mice, but NADK levels increased with age regardless of diet. NAMPT protein abundance did not change with age or diet. HFD consumption caused a severe decrease in protein lysine malonylation after six weeks, which persisted throughout the experiment. This decrease was not associated with changes in SIRT5 abundance. In conclusion, hepatic NAD+ salvage capacity is resistant to long-term HFD feeding, and hepatic lipid accumulation does not compromise the hepatic NAD+ pool in HFD-challenged C57BL/6JBomTac male mice.
