Patos jako přirozená součást filmového vyprávění / Pathos as a Natural Aspect of Film NarrationSoukupová, Irena January 2016 (has links)
In my work I deal with a phenomenon that has been discussed widely but still remains elusive pathos.
Pathos bears significances for current society that are not always positive. That is why I am going to try to define it, as well as categorize it. I am going to describe the usage and exploitation of pathos in cinema. I am also going to think of pathos criteria or what it determines - is it still pathos or so called sentiment? Unlike sentiment, pathos has its historical background.
Based on particular films and scenes analysis, I will clearly demonstrate how to work with pathos. I will also show how to create pathos itself altogether with pathetically tuned scenes by means of particular devices of film language.

Scénická realizace nedramatického textu / Staging a non-dramatic textSvozil, Adam January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the topic of narrative (or ´diegetic´) theatre plays. It aims to map out the processes which emerge after the mimetic mode of representation is partly or wholly replaced with the diegetic one., i.e. the decline in their ´dramatic´ quality and the structural changes which are being conceptualized mainly within a narrative framework. The thesis consequently looks at specific historic moments which propelled strong contemporary presence of diegesis on theatre stage; namely the theatre of Bertolt Brecht, the performative turn and postdramatic theatre and the storytelling movement. With these circumstances in mind, the author reflects on his practical theatrical work: The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas (DISK Theatre, Prague) and Illusions (DJKT Theatre, Pilsen.)

The subject of the research is mainly gender stereotypes of fictional characters and stereotyping of the fictional environment on the example of costumes, masks, period props, musical accompaniment and other elements of narration. The theoretical framework of the work is based primarily on the findings presented in the Introduction to the Semantics of Fictional Worlds by Bohumil Fořt and by Narrative Ways in Czech Literature by Lubomír Doležel. The knowledge of stereotyping theory is drawn from Nick Lacey's Image and Representation: Key Concepts in Media Studies and Pierre Sorlin's Europian Cinemas, Europian Societies 1939-1990. To obtain the necessary information about filmmaking, the publications of Radomír D. Kokeš, The Analysis of Film and David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson, The Art of Film: An Introduction to the Study of Form and Style, were used. The research sample on which this tendency is presented is the Czech war drama Operation Silver A, which depicts the everyday reality of...

This thesis focuses on the concept of the trap for the reader, which is defined using the methodology of the cognitive science cognitive literary studies as an input of such structures and concepts in the text by which specific scheme is activated in the mind of the reader to be replaced by the different incompatible scheme. Based on this replacement, the comprehension of the text is reconstructed. Afterward, we describe specific types of trap for the reader. Every type of the trap is defined by replaced schemes: characters are prototypically an- thropomorphic, characters are black-and-white, characters are archetypes, the narrator speaks the truth, the genre is not changed. Excerpts of literary works are used to represent each type of trap. In the other part of the thesis, we demonstrate usage of this concept in the literature lessons at upper elementary and high schools. Both well-known pieces of the Czech literature, as well as contemporary young adult literature, are used as examples for the didactic use of this concept. Keywords cognitivism, cognitive literary studies, young adult literature, cognitive bias, critical thinking, functional literacy 5
