Real-time marketing effects on brand in social media

Bengtsson, Therese, Håkansson, Daniel January 2015 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to investigate whether RTM-advertising is a more effective and attractive way of creating social media content compared to traditional social media marketing, and if so, provide insights on what makes it successful. The objective is also to get a greater understanding if such real-time marketing may affect the consumers’ perception of a brand due to the lack of time to consider the content of the marketing message. Further we wish to research if and what kind of impact events have on the real-time marketing effectiveness. Lastly we provide recommendations on how to, according to us, best practice RTM-advertising on social media today. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework consists of the essentials of brand equity and the importance of having a strong brand, as well as the emerging of a digital marketing platform and how it affect how companies perform marketing activities today. Further the theoretical framework covers the basic of social media and development of RTM. Considering RTM being a new phenomenon, previous scientific theories on the subjects are limited. Method: The research is based on a triangulation, a combination of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. This was made to get a broad perspective on the subject with viewpoints from both experts and consumers. The qualitative part consisted of five interviews with experts in the field of marketing as well as online observations of real-time marketing activities. The quantitative part consisted of a survey with 296 responses. Conclusions: The conclusions made in this research is that RTM is an effective and attractive way of creating social media marketing if made according to the following guidelines: 1) Build content on up-to-date news, so called newsjacking, 2) Be selective on what events to work on to make sure they are in alignment with your brand personality, 3) Use weather related happenings to build real-time content that is relevant and geographically on target, and 4) Interact with other brands and start a two way conversation. However, advertising in real-time may jeopardize how the brand is perceived by its consumers, since it may 1) Confuse the consumers, a luxury brand may for example come off as too mainstream, 2) Be misunderstood, considering the lack of time to plan and reconsider, and 3) Have the brand come out as Page 3 of 76 unauthentic, if the real-time content fail to reach high engagement, making it look dull and unattractive. Lastly, events have shown to have an impact on the effectiveness of the real-time advertisement, since 1) It provides brand with a short-cut to creating content that people are talking about, 2) Events are easy to plan beforehand, and 3) Events often open up to unpredicted happenings that consumers want to talk about, creating a so called opportunistic real-time opportunity.

Caso de estudio: Campaña “Disculpas Ilimitadas” con el Cóndor Mendoza de Entel Perú / Newsjacking on Facebook to generate brand recall for Entel in 2017 in Millennials. Case study: Campaign "Unlimited Apologies" with the Condor Mendoza of Entel Peru

Barrientos Mendoza, Alisson Daniela 27 August 2020 (has links)
This work focuses on analyzing the use of the Newsjacking technique on Facebook to generate remembrance of the Entel brand in 2017 among the millennial public. The case that will be analyzed is the campaign "Unlimited Apologies" with "El Cóndor" Mendoza from Entel Peru launched in early 2017. Newsjacking is a technique widely used by different brands that makes use of a news story to quickly connect with the audience achieving rapid user interaction on social networks. The importance of the development of this research can be seen in the contributions it has regarding the use of the Newsjacking technique and brand recall, since the case study was not based on the use of a recent news item, but on a event that happened in 2005 and the campaign used the news 12 years later, making it one of the most successful in the history of the brand. First of all, this research is highly relevant in the advertising field, as it focuses on studying brand awareness with the use of Newsjacking. Secondly, from a scientific or academic perspective, the relevance centers on the fact that, at the national and international level, the research is recent. There is academic research on the use of this technique related to content marketing on social networks. However, they give Real Time Marketing a greater focus as a strategy to achieve short-term goals, since a recent event is used and the action must be quick while it is still at the juncture. The objective is to analyze how the use of Newsjacking on Facebook generates recognition in the Entel brand in 2017 in millennials. For this, qualitative research was used as a methodology using in-depth interviews as tools due to the current situation that the country and the world are going through due to Covid-19 and the decree of the Peruvian State to order mandatory quarantine at the national level. For this reason, it is considered more pertinent to carry out in-depth interviews. On the one hand, the primary audience is made up of millennials who have viewed the campaign “Unlimited Apologies” on Facebook in 2017. The secondary target audience is made up of two groups: professionals who worked with the Entel brand in 2017 and / or participated in the realization of the campaign "Unlimited Apologies"; also, professionals who work in digital agencies and / or with knowledge about Newsjacking. / Trabajo de investigación

Newsjacking and generation Z consumer behavior : Identifying patterns through a comparison with generation Y

Goret, Alice, Lifvergren, Erik January 2022 (has links)
The term Newsjacking was popularized by David Meerman Scott in his book “The new rules of marketing & PR” (2020). The author describes this practice as a tool for marketers that consists in turning “a breaking news story” into an advertisement (p. 360). One key element to take into consideration with newsjacking is the necessity for this type of commercials to be broadcasted as early as possible. Indeed, breaking news stories are usually not trending for a long time, and thus need to be shared before the trend starts to generate less interest. This is where social media comes in. Scott (2020) explains they are the main playground for most newsjacking advertisements, because of the speed with which they allow marketers to publish content. A major part of social media users is composed of people from the generation Z (Parry, 2021). They were born between 1997 and 2012 and grew up in a world revolving around social media (Dimock, 2019). Yet, despite the large presence on social media of both newsjacking practices and generation Z consumers, there is no research connecting the two of them. This is the gap we seek to study in this research. To address this research gap, we compare generation Z to another one, namely generation Y. To generate a comparison five case studies were done, all of them featuring a different brand and two of their advertisements, one using newsjacking, and the other not. Six people were interviewed, three from generation Z and three from generation Y. The purpose of comparing two generations is to highlight differences in behavior, so that specific preferences in terms of newsjacking advertising can be assigned to generation Z. This research found that generation Z can indeed be targeted with the use of newsjacking. Yet, they have particular preferences that must be taken into consideration. They favor quick-paced social media platforms, and are more sensitive than generation Y about the ethics conveyed in advertising. Hence, the study provides a framework for how marketing professionals can use newsjacking when trying to reach out to generation Z consumers.

Johansson, Ellen January 2017 (has links)
The social media's popularity and increasing importance for corporate business opportunities imply new opportunities in marketing and customer relations. The term newsjacking stands for utilizing current news and major events to generate commitment to the own social media channels. This phenomenon is relatively unexplored and earlier research encounterd mostly focuses on the US market. No research has been found where focus lies as to explore whether the method could enable customer dialogue. This study aims to examine if newsjacking is a method enabling opportunities for companies to increase their communication with customers on Facebook. The study also aims to clarify how young adults, 18-25 years old, perceive these types of posts. A net survey where newsjacking has been set against more traditional posts has been conducted and generated 56 replies. A netnographic study, which included a review of 1108 Facebook comments and the companies replies to these, was conducted. The empirical result was categorized and viewed against the essays theoretical framework. Conclusions drawn are that young adults have a relatively neutral attitude towards posts using newsjacking. The possibility of increased communication with customers is seen as limited as the posts do not encourage dialogue. The spread possibilities through sharing are seen as greater, but the choice of newsjacking-subject in relation to the target group is considered crucial in terms of success. A conclusion drawn is that newsjacking in combination with an encouraging text could possibly be a winning concept and is presented as a possible further development of the study.
