Beneficial yet Risky : Evaluate Risks of Fish Diet of Mercury Exposure to Consumers in SwedenWu, Pianpian January 2012 (has links)
For a long time, fish is regarded as an important food source beneficial for human health. But there’s nowadays an increasing concern of fish consumption for increasing existence of mercury (Hg) and methylmercury (MeHg), which can be accumulated upon fish intake and pose health threats to human. It is suggested that children and pregnant women are more vulnerable to effects due to accumulation of Hg. There have been continuous efforts done by governments and researchers all over the world, e.g. publishing national and regional advisories on fish consumption, in order to inform public related risks aroused by excess fish consumption. Sweden, as one of the earliest countries abandons the use of Hg (Regeringskansliet, http://www.sweden.gov.se), has published a national advisory on fish consumption for pregnant and breastfeeding women (Swedish National Food Agency, SLV, http://www.slv.se/). Hg level in edible fish organs is also limited for safe consumption. In order to picture a better image of this, we investigated existed databases in Sweden on Hg levels in fish, fishery statistics, consumption data, and observed Hg level in human in recent decades for human exposure to Hg in Sweden. Though mercury emission decreased, the exposure to mercury via fish consumption is still high. We believe there’s a potential risk for Swedish inhabitants, especially pregnant women and women in breastfeeding, as well as young children. It is strongly recommended a safer limit of Hg in fish products for consumption in Sweden. We hope for more synthesized knowledge of safe fish consumption that benefit for the public and promote regional/national policy in having an up-to-date fish consumption advisory in Sweden.

The benefit analysis of government uses IMC to promote water conservationHsu, Ya-ting 08 August 2011 (has links)
Annual rainfall of Taiwan was 2.6 times larger than the average of the world, but the average allocation of rainfall per square meter of everyone in Taiwan was less than the fifth of the average of the world because of severe rainfall and dense population. When the government set into action of water conservation, education and guidance were the most important tools, however, the arduous challenge of the government was how to turn the slogan into the motion.
This paper aimed to explore IMC (Integrated Marketing Communication, IMC) applied to public policies of the government and influenced an attitude of water consumption of consumer by literature discussion. Besides A Case Study of Taiwan Water Corporation, this paper analyzed and explored the influence of de-marketing strategies of the government on the south of Taiwan by questionnaire survey. The samples for the quantitative research were the water users from Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County , and there were 351 valid data finally.
The conclusions were that each aspect of IMC was related to the water conservation, but only ¡§Preference Assessment¡¨ and ¡§Satisfication Assessment¡¨ had predictability. And the bettet preference and satisfication of the water conservation measures of the government consumers had, the better coordinate degree of water consumption.

Trajectory Planning with Minimum Energy Consumption for Underwater Remotely Operated VehiclesLiu, Yu-Kai 17 July 2007 (has links)
The main focus of this thesis is to design effective trajectories with minimum energy consumption for underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV) in the environment with ocean current. The complete motion behavior of the ROV includes surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch, and yaw. Both the surge and sway are easy to be influenced by ocean current. The basic mission for the ROV is always from one starting point to a desired target position. An optimum trajectory with the minimum energy consumption not only can make the best use of energy, but also can improve maneuver efficiency for either manual operation or automatic control. In order to solve this problem, the optimal theorem is applied. The Matlab simulation tool is employed to demonstrate the response and performance of the ROV using the proposed trajectories. In addition, the applicably operational range for the ROV can also be determined when thrust limits are considered. Such information presents the extreme maneuver capability of the ROV in the ocean current.

Operational and vehicular strategies for reducing fuel consumption and GHG emissions from truckingThompson, Melissa Renee 20 December 2010 (has links)
Reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is becoming
increasingly important in the United States, and new legislation can be expected in the
near future that will affect trucks either directly or indirectly. This work is a qualitative
examination of operational strategies for reducing fuel consumption from freight
trucking, and also compares them with vehicular strategies. A focus is placed on who
implements, benefits from, and pays for each strategy, and what type of trucking each
strategy is applicable to. / text

The influence of consumption goals on decision processing and choiceHair, Michael Lee 21 September 2015 (has links)
My research examines how active consumption goals, defined as the benefits sought by the consumer, influence cognitive processes and decision outcomes. I address two common issues pertinent to consumer decisions. Consumers often face choices in which information is not readily available—requiring them to retrieve details from memory. Furthermore, consumer choices are frequently influenced by the type of attributes presented and the decision context itself, sometimes leading to negative outcomes and consequences. In two essays, I study how the activation of consumption goals can influence the manner in which decision-relevant information is encoded into memory, and may also influence the weighting of decision attributes and the outcomes of subsequent choices. The first essay explores the effects of goal activation and attribute valence on memory for information in a consumer decision setting. The second essay explores the factors that affect the helpfulness (or harmfulness) of consumption goal elicitation.
