Design av en mobil arbetsterminal för röntgenavdelningar / Design of a mobile terminal for the radiology unitSivertsson, Emil January 2009 (has links)

In healthcare settings, administrative routines have been made more efficientthrough digitalization of information and the introduction of stationary computers. This situation is especially true when it comes to radiology, where pictures, referrals and patient information now is completely managed by advanced stationarycomputer systems. However, studies have shown that these rationalizationsdo not support flexible and mobile work routines.PocketRIS is a prototype illustrating a mobile terminal for radiology that hasbeen designed to simplify workflow and reduce the cognitive workload of healthcarepersonnel. PocketRIS includes a visualization of the clinicians work situationincluding a personal referral list that can make the user attentive of importantevents.Contextual Design has been used to elicit the basic system requirements for thesystem; 19 contextual inquires was conducted with physicians, nurses and assistantnurses at two different radiology clinics in Sweden during six days. The purposeof the study was also to identify the groups that have the greatest need for amobile terminal. The study was concerned with design and evaluation of differentsolutions with healthcare personnel. The result shows that physicians and assistant nurses have the greatest need ofa mobile terminal. Especially important for a mobile system is that it supportsevent-based work and provides a good overview over patients and the work situation.PocketRIS is an example of how these requirements this can be met at theradiology unit.
/
Genom effektiviseringar har en stor del av sjukvårdens administrativa rutiner digitaliseratsoch stationära arbetstationer införts på våra kliniker. Role of Project Portfolio Control Techniques in Achieving Efficiency in Project Based FirmsKarivate, Pattharawan, Rizwan, Muhammad January 2009 (has links)

“While project management and program management have traditionally focused on ‘doing work right’, portfolio management is concerned with ‘doing the right work’” (PMI,2006)

Nowadays organizations are facing problems with too many projects and having limited resources to execute these projects. Therefore the role of portfolio control is gaining more importance to yield the right balance, mix and number of projects, and also to deal with the challenge of maximizing the value of the portfolio. Therefore the organizations rely on effective portfolio management and are developing new methods to deal with these challenges. Hence present study involves study of those organizations that rely on portfolio control techniques to effectively manage their portfolio of projects.

The aim of this research is to investigate the role of portfolio control techniques in achieving efficiency in project based firms, examine relationship between control techniques and the portfolio efficiency, and to find the role of contextual factors like project and governance type in impacting the portfolio efficiency. Three portfolio control factors: portfolio selection, portfolio reporting, and decision making style were identified and portfolio efficiency was explained by two measures: achievement of portfolio results and achievement of project and program level purpose.

The research was conducted at two multinational organizations, a pharmaceutical company in Europe and engineering and contracting transportation company in Asia. Case study research strategy was used, and data was collected through semi- structured interviews to investigate the impact of using these portfolio control techniques in a project based firms.

The results of the research indicate that these control techniques helps to select and analyse the portfolio from strategic, financial and risk perspective. Furthermore it helps to balance the organizational priorities by taking into consideration project type, market sector, resource constraints and product lines. The portfolio control techniques also involve portfolio reporting which is considered as formal way of communication and information sharing and is believed to be significant project-level factor contributing to portfolio efficiency. Lastly, portfolio decision making helps the organizations in making the right decision in the best interest of the organization. All these control variables were found to have a significant impact on achieving results and achieving project and programme level purpose which in our research are the dimensions of portfolio efficiency.

In our study we also found that there exists a positive relationship between the portfolio control techniques and portfolio efficiency which is affected by the contextual variables such as project type, governance type, organizational complexity, co-localization of team members, communication and clarity of goals and objectives.

Exploring the multiple dimensions of context: Implications for the design and development of innovative technology-enhanced learning environmentsKurti, Arianit January 2009 (has links)
Technology evolution throughout history has initiated many changes in different aspects of human activities. Learning, as one of the most representative human activities has also been subject to these changes. Nowadays, the use of information and communication technologies has considerably changed the way people learn and collaborate. These changes have been accompanied by new approaches to support learning using a wide range of mobile devices, software applications and different communication platforms. In these technology rich landscapes, the notion of context emerges as a crucial component to be considered for the design and technical implementation of technology-enhanced learning environments. The main research question investigated in this thesis relates to the use of different context instantiations for the design and development of innovative technology-enhanced learning environments. This thesis is a collection of eight papers that describe the results of the research efforts conducted in four different experimental cases during a period of four years. These experiments have been designed and developed as part of two research projects. The theoretical foundations that guided this research were based on the view of context and interaction from a learning theory, human-computer-interaction perspective, as well as dimensional data modelling techniques. Different methodological approaches, (such as action-oriented, design-based research and case study) have been used while investigating the main research question. The main contribution that this thesis offers to the research community is a conceptual context model accompanied by a dimensional data model that can be used as a design tool for embedding learning activities in context. In the four trials that encompass my empirical work, the conceptual model proposed in the thesis guided the design and technical development of the different novel technology-enhanced learning activities. The outcomes of these efforts provided various insights regarding the use of different context instantiations that have implications for the design and development of these environments. This thesis advocates that computational context attributes should be used as metadata descriptors that would potentially promote personalization and interoperability of digital learning content. Content personalization offers opportunities for personalized learning that increases learners’ engagement and eventually could lead to better learning results. Furthermore, the research and industrial community could use the context model developed in this thesis as a guiding tool to promote the creation of new ways to personalize services and technologies.

Kan inställningen till en IT-artefakt förändras genom användarmedverkan i designprocessens tidigaste stadium?Karlsson, Doris January 2001 (has links)

Empowerment, Contextual Performance & Job Satisfaction - A Case Study of the Scandic Hotels in Jönköping -Alibegovic, Sandra, Hawkins, Andrew, Parmar, Mitesh January 2009 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction among hotel employees as well as the relationship between employee empowerment and contextual performance behaviours. Background: Most managers and scholars emphasize that an organization’s most important tool for gaining a competitive advantage is its people and; in order for the firm to attain success employees must be involved and active. It has been argued that success within the hotel industry lies with customer satisfaction, of which is the result of overall job satisfaction of the employee. Most hotels strive to empower their employees in order to deliver better quality service. In addition, contextual performance behaviours are also common practice in such places where employees have a broad range of duties and tasks. Both empowerment and contextual performance behaviours are thus seen to provide overall job satisfaction. Method: The research approach used was that of a single case study, using a survey instrument to collect data on facets empowerment and contextual performance behaviours. The Scandic Hotels of Jonkoping were used for this purpose. The data collected were then analysed by way of factor analysis and multiple regression methods to validate the hypotheses formed in the theoretical framework. Findings and Conclusions: Based on the results of the analysis, the majority of the hypotheses were supported. Training and rewards showed a significant relationship with overall job satisfaction. Job dedication behaviours also showed similar results. In addition, information sharing and trust and training and rewards proved to have interrelationships as facets of empowerment. Interpersonal facilitation and job dedication behaviours were also proved to be distinct behaviours within contextual performance.

Effects of LTD-blocking Tat-GluR2 Peptide on Contextual Fear Memory Impairments Induced by CannabinoidsKamino, Daphne 21 August 2012 (has links)
The mechanisms underlying cannabinoid impairment of fear memory is not clear. This study investigated the effects of the synthetic cannabinoid HU210 and the endocannabinoid hydrolysis inhibitor JZL 195 on fear memory following contextual fear conditioning (CFC; an animal model of fear). The long-term depression (LTD)-blocking peptide Tat-GluR2 was utilized to investigate whether the expression of cannabinoid-induced LTD (CB-LTD) is required for the cannabinoid impairment of acquisition and consolidation of contextual fear memory. HU210 reduced freezing throughout the test phase of the acquisition protocol, which was not affected by pre-administration of Tat-GluR2. High and moderate doses of HU210 reduced freezing during the first and last half, respectively, of the test phase of the consolidation protocol, which was prevented by pre-treatment with Tat-GluR2. HU210 did not affect freezing during the test phase of the retrieval protocol. Thus, these results suggest that HU210 impairs acquisition and consolidation, but not retrieval of contextual fear memory, and that in vivo CB-LTD expression is required for HU210 impairment of the consolidation, but not acquisition, of contextual fear memory. We also observed that HU210 and JZL 195 do not facilitate the acquisition of contextual fear memory extinction.

The Mature Micro Business and its Network : Advancing the qualitative case study on network tie content and strengthAxelsson, Emma January 2013 (has links)
The value creating mechanism of business networks has been acknowledged in research (Casson & Della Giusta, 2007, p. 221; Granovetter, 1973; Jones, Hesterly & Borgatti, 1997, p. 912). Within small business research, focus has been on network structure (Jack, Moult, Anderson & Dodd. 2010, p. 317; Shaw, 2006, p. 5; Curran et al., 1993, p. 13), disregarding dynamic factors such as network content, strength and processes. Network studies within start-up businesses have received attention (Witt, 2004, p 392); hence limited research exists concerning more well-established small businesses’ networks. These research gaps will here be addressed from the perspective of a smaller business, a micro business, at a stage of firm maturity. Small business research suffers from methodological fragmentation and underdevelopments, favoring positivistic and quantitative methods (Blackburn & Kovalainen, 2009, p. 128-129). To address this, this research seeks to explore qualitative alternatives, which can be increasingly fruitful for the small business field when studying networks (Jack et al., 2010, p. 317). Recognizing the social and contextual embeddedness of the micro business and its sensitivity to external changes (Curran & Blackburn, 2001, p. 7), this research opts for a qualitative in-depth case study to explore these contextual mechanisms. This research adopts a critical realist stance using ethnographic and process research methods of grounded theory, taking the sequence of events into account in the analysis. This present research combines strands of research of core disciplines (sociology) to newer disciplines (entrepreneurship) to produce a conceptual mapping. This deductive conceptual mapping is used as basis for the data collection and as a tool for analysis in this by nature inductive study. This study finds that network tie content and strength deepen the understanding of networks and their maintenance, beyond the static mapping of structure. Network tie content and strength does influence structure and is in turn influenced by context. This provides answer to why the network appears as it does. The appearance of the mature micro business’ network indicates that growth ambitions can be inhibited by contextual factors such as limited access to new opportunities. This present study finds and agrees with Van Maanen (2011a, p. 226-227) that the single case study and ethnographic observant-participant methods, often criticized for not producing substantial findings, are informative as they allow exploring the influence of contextual factors. The intended audience of research academics and local/regional/national entrepreneurship policy makers should recognize that research which enhances tools for apprehending contextual factors can provide interesting results. The research design disregards generalization capabilities in favor of accounting for the research process of the researcher and its subject. This is argued to give a fruitful version of truth of network appearance in terms of content and strength and why it appears as such.

The Priming Effects of Polling Location on Ballot Initiative Voting DecisionsGlas, Jeffrey M. 11 August 2011 (has links)
Do the physical settings in which a voter casts their ballot affect their vote choices? Every state uses a variety of polling locations for the administration of election: churches, schools, libraries, fire stations, and etcetera. The literature on priming effects and voting is massive, but very little research examines the impact of the venue in which a ballot is cast has on voters’ decisions. In this study I argue that polling venues situated on church, school, or veteran’s association property influences the proportion of votes cast in favor of ballot measures related to each institution. I test these hypotheses using precinct level election results and population data from California’s 2008 general election and find results supporting, or suggesting, such a relationship.

cROVER: Context-augmented Speech Recognizer based on Multi-Decoders' OutputAbida, Mohamed Kacem 20 September 2011 (has links)
The growing need for designing and implementing reliable voice-based human-machine interfaces has inspired intensive research work in the field of voice-enabled systems, and greater robustness and reliability are being sought for those systems. Speech recognition has become ubiquitous. Automated call centers, smart phones, dictation and transcription software are among the many systems currently being designed and involving speech recognition. The need for highly accurate and optimized recognizers has never been more crucial. The research community is very actively involved in developing powerful techniques to combine the existing feature extraction methods for a better and more reliable information capture from the analog signal, as well as enhancing the language and acoustic modeling procedures to better adapt for unseen or distorted speech signal patterns. Most researchers agree that one of the most promising approaches for the problem of reducing the Word Error Rate (WER) in large vocabulary speech transcription, is to combine two or more speech recognizers and then generate a new output, in the expectation that it provides a lower error rate. The research work proposed here aims at enhancing and boosting even further the performance of the well-known Recognizer Output Voting Error Reduction (ROVER) combination technique. This is done through its integration with an error filtering approach. The proposed system is referred to as cROVER, for context-augmented ROVER. The principal idea is to flag erroneous words following the combination of the word transition networks through a scanning process at each slot of the resulting network. This step aims at eliminating some transcription errors and thus facilitating the voting process within ROVER. The error detection technique consists of spotting semantic outliers in a given decoder's transcription output. Due to the fact that most error detection techniques suffer from a high false positive rate, we propose to combine the error filtering techniques to compensate for the poor performance of each of the individual error classifiers. Experimental results, have shown that the proposed cROVER approach is able to reduce the relative WER by almost 10% through adequate combination of speech decoders. The approaches proposed here are generic enough to be used by any number of speech decoders and with any type of error filtering technique. A novel voting mechanism has also been proposed. The new confidence-based voting scheme has been inspired from the cROVER approach. The main idea consists of using the confidence scores collected from the contextual analysis, during the scoring of each word in the transition network. The new voting scheme outperformed ROVER's original voting, by up to 16% in terms of relative WER reduction.
