The purpose of this study was to explore behaviors and characteristics of college women within the context of their relationships with their female friends, peers, and colleagues. Specifically, the study addressed unacknowledged feelings and covert behaviors directed toward women. In opposition to the frequently commended characteristics of women such as collaborating and nurturing, experiences reported by the subjects of this study describe their female peers, and sometimes themselves, as covertly malicious. Rivalry, unlike competition, surrounds women and has the potential to penetrate every relationship women have with other women regardless of the context of the relationship. By collecting data from college women at a large, research, state-affiliated university, this exploratory study employed grounded research methodology (Glaser & Straus, 1967) to develop a theoretical image of the rivalrous woman. / Master of Arts

In the present study, it was examined whether the spatiotemporal dynamics of transitions towards target dominance in motion-induced blindness (MIB) were wave-like, similar to those in binocular rivalry. The spatiotemporal dynamics of transitions towards dominance in MIB were further compared with those in binocular rivalry to reveal a potential neural locus of MIB. Across a series of experiments, the relationship between target length, stimulus structure, presentation location and the latency for circular arc segment-shaped targets to reappear was examined, respectively. It was found that target reappearance durations increase with target length, as if they reappear in a gradual, wavelike fashion. Target reappearance durations were decreased for collinear compared to radial targets, but they were not influenced by the location of target presentation. The results suggest MIB target reappearances are associated with traveling waves of dominance, and early visual cortex is a likely neural substrate in which these wave-like transitions occur. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.S.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2016. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Este trabalho é fruto de uma pesquisa debruçada sobre o período da história do futebol brasileiro conhecido como crise do amadorismo, que atravessa as décadas de 1910 e 1920, até 1933, ano em que o futebol profissional se formaliza em São Paulo. O intuito desta investigação história consiste em identificar as origens de uma das maiores rivalidades do futebol brasileiro, o derby Corinthians e Palmeiras, à luz das dinâmicas sociais, econômicas e políticas envolvidas com o processo de profissionalização desse esporte que produzem seus maiores símbolos de desenvolvimento: os estádios. / This work is the result of a research bent over the period of the Brazilian football history known as \"crisis of amateurism\" that crosses the 1910s and 1920s, until 1933, the year that professional football is formalized in São Paulo. The purpose of this research is to identify the history origins of one of the greatest rivalries in Brazilian football, Corinthians and Palmeiras derby, in light of the dynamic social, economic and political involved with the process of professionalization of the sport they produce their greatest symbols of development: stadiums.
