Simulations of mergers in brazilian soft drinks market - an analysis of 1991 - 2009 / SimulaÃÃes de fusÃes no mercado brasileiro de refrigerantes â uma anÃlise de 1991 - 2009

Beatriz Passos Teophilo Gaspar de Oliveira 09 February 2010 (has links)
nÃo hà / This work has as general objective identifying rivalry characteristics among the main firms of the brazilian soft drinks market, those firms are Coca-Cola Co, AmBev â American Beverages and âtubaÃnasâ, products that make the competitive fringe of this industry. Therefore, this research points out the market competitive features through a historical analysis of the period from 1991 to 2009, it also exposes a short literature revision about Fusion and Acquisition concepts, and it shows and uses PCAIDS (Proportionately Calibrated Almost Ideal Demand System) model as a tool of fusion simulation between firms, facing an concentration act assumption. This research suggests that âtubaÃnasâ seems to be closer substitutes to Coca-Cola Co brands, than to AmBev products, pointing out a greater rivalry with the first firm than with the second one.

Bezerra, Daniela Moura 30 September 2011 (has links)
We propose to study in a general way the presence of the musical gender choro (Brazilian musical gender) in the city Aracaju, in Sergipe, Brazil. It inquire which principles give legitimacy to the groups of choro existing in Sergipe s capital, and how the search for legitimacy influences the social relations constructed inside of what we denominated Aracaju s circuit of choro. This term is used as a reference to a common expression among the groups of choro of this city. It is also used as an analyses category which describes the ways of use of an urban space which give support to one determined practice and a observable existence. This circuit is composed by seven choro group that are distributed in distinguished neighborhoods of the city. The concept defended in this dissertation is that Aracaju s choro circuit is fragmented and disputed by the different groups that are part of it, in the search of prestige positions to be occupied by them. These disputes generate the establishment of rivalries which mainly occur between the older and the younger groups, and the construction of solidarity nets as a strategy of being insert on choro context in Sergipe. This paper is structured in three chapters. The first chapter proposes to present the existing representations about this gender and how it has been used as a justification to elaborate projects that incentives its practice and as a motive to explain the option of playing it. In the second chapter is presented the circuit and the relations established in its inner, it is, the practices of solidarity and rivalry. The last chapter analyzes the principles activated to the legitimization of choro groups and the identity rhetoric of being chorão (the musician that plays choro) in Aracaju.

This ethnographic study of a group of young men living in “Mundo Novo” (New World), a neighborhood in the outskirts of Juiz de Fora (MG), is a thick description based upon accounts and reflections in dialogue with personal observations and interpretations. A theoretical and methodological approach was developed in the interaction with them. The research question aims to understand these youngsters' moving in large groups through the city streets, albeit the contact with them and most of the here treated subject matters focus on their experiences on the streets and other shared spaces in their own neighborhood. Drawing upon a field research conducted in 2014 and 2015, the author seeks to describe and analyze a set of practices represented by a multitude of typically juvenile, social constructs and reinterpretations. Being part of the New World´s jig as a cohesive and stable group involves a special relationship with the birthplace where these young people grew up, and with the parents-and-grandparents’ generational experiences, which encompasses a daily production of a "different style". The research found that their strong bonds of friendship reveal shared experiences that motivate them to set up varied ways of expression and belonging, which translate into friendship experiences, style buildings and rivalry feelings. The thesis discusses the events shared and experienced by this group of young people, how these events become significant for a youth sociality built on a daily basis.

“Hagene, der vil ungetriuwe man”? Courtly Rivalry, Loyalty Conflict, and the Figure of Hagen in the Nibelungenlied

DeVane Brown, Katherine 29 August 2014 (has links)
The variety of scholarly approaches to the Middle High German poem Das Nibelungenlied has generated a wide range of conflicting analyses of the character of Hagen, a figure who plays a key role in both the plot and the interpretation of the work. This thesis proposes that viewing Hagen’s relationship with Siegfried in relation to the poem’s central theme of loyalty (triuwe) allows for an analysis that integrates both the positive and negative aspects of Hagen’s character. By examining the depiction of courtly rivalry in four contemporary Middle High German works (Herzog Ernst B, Wolfdietrich A, Tristan, and Parzival), I outline the basic features of this common medieval narrative structure and then apply the same framework to a close reading of the relationship between Hagen and Siegfried in the Nibelungenlied. I also argue that the incorporation of the courtly rivalry motif as a unifying theme of the text allows the poet to take a stance on the broader issue of loyalty conflict, a topic which appears frequently in contemporary literature and had particular relevance within the political climate of medieval Germany. My reading of the character of Hagen can thus hopefully shed new light on the thematic structure of the Nibelungenlied as well as on the relationship between the poem and the literary and historical context in which it was written.

The evolution seen from the angle of quantum physics

Drechsel, Dieter 14 December 2021 (has links)
In previous publications [1,7] the author described the base rivalry in monotonous DNA sequences and their effect on the DNA repair mechanism. According to this theory, many base building blocks compete for the occupancy of the newly released base site in the replication of monotonous DNA sequences in the elongation phase. This gives them more and more kinetic energy from replication position k to next position. Thus, there is a probability that a tautomeric base pair is formed behind the end of the monotonic sequence because of the tunneling effect. After its replication a different, irreparable base pair develops from the tautomeric base pair, when the rivalry - energy leads to a very strong hydrogen bond. This happens, however, by chance. In the following, we will describe the 3 phenomena: The tunnel probability (section 2), the probability for coming up of a high – energy – base building block (Elitist, section 3),and the combination of both phenomena (section 4). The result of these calculations is the equation (28). It is remarkable that follows from these calculations that the length of the monotonous sequences, and also the length of DNA increases itself in the course of evolution (section 5). (Read up all detailed computations in [7].) [... from introduction]

“Milk is milk” versus “Ditch milk” : A case study of consumers’ attitudes towards brands involved in brand rivalry

Lerberg, Pernilla, Nilsson, Kajsa January 2020 (has links)
For the last five years, Sweden has seen a quite remarkable milk war between the traditional Arla serving dairy products and the innovative Oatly offering vegan milk substitutes. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how consumers’ attitudes are affected by firms’ involvement in brand rivalry, where the conflict between Arla and Oatly served as a case. A conceptual model based on previous research was created to shed light on essential elements that affect consumers’ attitudes. Empirical data was collected through a qualitative content analysis as well as two focus group interviews. Findings resulted in three main insights concerning consumers’ attitudes. Firstly, consumers’ attitudes depend on how the brands decide to leverage and influence consumers’ emotions, where humorous content can smooth over smear campaigns. Secondly, consumers’ attitudes are influenced by their degree of knowledge regarding the conflict, where knowledgeable consumers are often more critical to the content communicated in advertisements. Lastly, consumers’ attitudes are negatively affected if a brand’s core values do not cohere with its engagement in rivalry. This dissertation has contributed to additional insights into brand rivalry initiatives from a consumer perspective. Brands should consider a public conflict more carefully to avoid negative attitudes among consumers.

Evolution Physics

Drechsel, Dieter 02 May 2018 (has links)
In a process called 'base rivalry', irreparable mutations are provoked in the replication of monotonous sequences, which depend on the cell temperature, the cell viscosity and monotonous sequence length. This explains the very long monotonous sequences and very long DNAs that occur over long evolutionary epochs. Presumably, base rivalry (with tautomerism or too low cell viscosity) also provokes the formation of tumors and the emergence of dangerous viral mutations.

Quality of Sibling Relationship and Age Spacing in Single-Parent Households Versus Two-Parent Households

Overlock, Mari Varga 01 January 2017 (has links)
Sibling relationship quality is affected by several variables, such as gender, age spacing, marital conflicts, parenting, and parent-child relationship, which simultaneously influence personality and developmental outcomes. Furthermore, sibling relationships can significantly influence the social climate of the family and vice versa. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of household composition (1-parent home vs. 2-parent home) and the number of years between siblings ages on sibling relationship quality, and to determine whether parental conflict response management strategies differ between single-parent and 2-parent homes. The participants were 124 adult mothers with at least 2 children. Participants provided demographic information and completed the Parental Expectations and Perceptions of Children's Sibling Relationships Questionnaire to measure sibling relationship quality and the Parental Conflict Management Strategies to measure parental responses to sibling conflict. The 4 research questions were assessed using a quantitative design that used 2-factor multivariate analysis of variance and a chi-square test of independence. The result revealed that household type affected sibling rivalry such that 1-parent households reported less sibling rivalry than 2-parent households. The results also showed that there is no preference for any specific conflict management strategy for sibling conflict among single-parent and two-parent households. Social change implications may result from this study based on a better understanding of how sibling relationship quality has been affected by different family dynamics, such as changes in household composition.

An Analysis of the Relationship between College Football Fans and their Rival Teams

Young, Morgan 09 December 2016 (has links)
The current study explored how fan identification and negative rival perception affect the decision to blast or support the rival in indirect competition in college football. 258 participants (M age=24.15, 51.16% female) responded after being targeted via social media, email, and in person. Fans higher in identification had a more negative rival perception, were more likely to blast the rival, and were less likely to support the rival in indirect competition. A negative rival perception increased blasting and decreased rival support. The results contribute to current literature on rivalry and fan identification and aid marketers in marketing segmentation and targeting new segments to increase viewership and attendance.
