For that they were conducted historical studies, bibliographic and iconographic on the use of school uniforms from the midnineteenth century to the end of the 70s of the twentieth century. The research aimed to address how the use of the school uniform was established in Ceará during the 1940s to the late 1970. The choice of this period was mainly, for we can interview former students who were students from the 1940s During the research it was also possible to understand which were the uniform use of symbols both for students and for society in general. For a better understanding of the subject they were chosen two schools that were part of the history of education in the State of Ceará: the Ceará Lyceum College and Normal School of Ceará, both public maintained by the State Government. Throughout the history of these schools, interviews with former students of the time and conversations with today's employees can know as was the story of the school uniform during the set period. This work revealed historical aspects of school uniforms in Ceará relating to fashion and uniforms cearenses schools, performing also brief history of local education.

Uniform Flow Development Length in a Rough Laboratory Flume

Sharma, Sanjib 01 May 2015 (has links)
Test sections in laboratory studies should be fully developed and uniform if they are to be generalized. The objective of this study is to develop a model for predicting the uniform flow development length (Lunif) in a rough laboratory flume as a function of hydraulic parameters and bed particle roughness height (ks). Using an ADV time-averaged point velocity was measured in developing and fully developed turbulent subcritical rough open-channel flows. A series of laboratory tests were carried out in a 6.1-m-long and 0.46-m-wide rectangular channel. Tests were conducted with fine gravel (d50 = 5.8 mm, ks = 3.1d90 = 0.026 m), medium gravel (d50 = 14 mm, ks = 0.068 m), and with fine /medium gravel (d50 = 11 mm, ks = 0.04 m). For each test, longitudinal point velocity measurements were made along the center of the channel at five elevations, and at thirteen longitudinal stations. The study concluded that for flow to be uniform, the flow depth and mean cross-sectional velocity must be constant. In addition, root mean square of the fluctuating component of the velocity, RMS(u'), which is the measure of the turbulence intensity, should be uniform in order for a flow to consider uniform. Thus, RMS(u') is one of the indicative measures for determining the location where the developing flow is fully developed and uniform. The results showed that increasing the bed roughness height decreases the uniform flow development length. Using the dimensional and statistical analyses Lunif was estimated as a linear function of Reynold's particle number and Froude number.

Limits of Schema Mappings

Kolaitis, Phokion, Pichler, Reinhard, Sallinger, Emanuel, Savenkov, Vadim 02 October 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Schema mappings have been extensively studied in the context of data exchange and data integration, where they have turned out to be the right level of abstraction for formalizing data interoperability tasks. Up to now and for the most part, schema mappings have been studied as static objects, in the sense that each time the focus has been on a single schema mapping of interest or, in the case of composition, on a pair of schema mappings of interest. In this paper, we adopt a dynamic viewpoint and embark on a study of sequences of schema mappings and of the limiting behavior of such sequences. To this effect, we first introduce a natural notion of distance on sets of finite target instances that expresses how "Close" two sets of target instances are as regards the certain answers of conjunctive queries on these sets. Using this notion of distance, we investigate pointwise limits and uniform limits of sequences of schema mappings, as well as the companion notions of pointwise Cauchy and uniformly Cauchy sequences of schema mappings. We obtain a number of results about the limits of sequences of GAV schema mappings and the limits of sequences of LAV schema mappings that reveal striking differences between these two classes of schema mappings. We also consider the completion of the metric space of sets of target instances and obtain concrete representations of limits of sequences of schema mappings in terms of generalized schema mappings, that is, schema mappings with infinite target instances as solutions to (finite) source instances.

Fuzzy uniform spaces

Burton, Michael Howard January 1992 (has links)
For a fuzzy uniform space, the notion of a Cauchy prefilter, a precompact fuzzy set, a complete fuzzy set and a bounded fuzzy set are defined in such a way that these notions are good extensions of the corresponding notions for a uniform space. A theory of fuzzy uniform spaces is developed which generalises the theory of uniform spaces.

Non uniform thickness and weighted global radius of curvature of smooth curves

Huerter, Kimberly Jean 01 December 2009 (has links)
The uniform thickness of knots has been used to investigate knotted polymers and DNA strands. Even though these structures carry great length, it is unusual for them to contain knots. However, when they do, it can cause gene malfunctions. In fact, scientist have demonstrated that knotting may cause a loss of genetic material by blocking DNA replication and also blocking transcription of a gene into its active protein. Since it is possible for biological structures, such as polymers and DNA strands, to exhibit forces or charges of different strengths the idea of a non uniform thickness of a knot is explored. In his work, O. Durumeric provides a definition for the non uniform thickness. This thesis will provide an alternative characterization for the non uniform thickness of a knot, which is more conducive to computer calculations.

The development of a prototype uniform for high school girls in Swaziland

Ndlangamandla, Sibongile Buyisile 24 June 2011 (has links)
A study was carried out to: <ul><li>Determine and describe all the stakeholders’ preferences and problems with regard to high school girls' uniform; and</li> <li>To make recommendations for the prototype uniform that could be tested amongst stakeholders.</li></ul> A survey was conducted through three questionnaires for the three different groups, namely the Form-3 girls, parents (represented by the mothers), and the teachers at the school, to determine the functional and aesthetic preferences and problems experienced with the current school uniform. Form-3 girls were selected because it was assumed they had passed the spurt of growth between the ages of 15 and 17 years. Their mothers had the experience of purchasing the family’s clothes, while the teachers spend most of the time with the girls observing the quality features of the uniform. Purposive sampling was used to select the girls, their mothers and five teachers from each school, resulting in a total sample of 150 girls, 150 mothers and 84 teachers. Fifteen (15) schools were selected from two highly populated urban areas, namely: the Hhohho region (Mbabane) and the Manzini region (Manzini). `The analysis starts with the descriptive characteristics of the demographic information of the stakeholders in the uniforms used in the school. Data was expressed in frequencies and percentages. Means and standard deviations were ranked in descending order, the most preferred functional and aesthetic features placed at the top. The functional and aesthetic performance problems were also ranked, with the feature giving most problems placed at the top. The study revealed that Swazi high school girls rated both their functional and aesthetic preferences high. Amongst the performance preferences, sensory-aesthetic dimensions were rated as very important, followed by durability (that the tunic should not fade in colour), comfort and ease of care. Performance preferences that were considered less important by the girls were the wearing of the tunic in summer and winter and using the tunic for class and sports. Mothers were not asked about comfort preferences because they do not wear the tunic; however, amongst the functional performance qualities tested on them, durability, care and cost were considered important. As was the case with the girls, mothers also considered symbolic preferences less important, for example that the tunic should show family and cultural values. The comparison of the combined functional dimensions to the combined aesthetic dimensions indicated that the girls and their mothers rated the functional performance preferences of the tunic higher than the aesthetic performance preferences. Teachers were only asked to respond on end-use and symbolic qualities of the tunic. Teachers considered the wearing of the tunic in winter and summer more important than the symbolic preferences. Symbolic preferences were also seen to be less important with the girls and their mothers. From the problems it can be concluded that the mothers and the girls did not experience major problems, except that the tunic fades. Mothers saw the cost of the tunic to be too expensive, as the same tunic could not be worn for sports. All the preferences relate to choice of style and fabric. Consumers preferred a panelled style of tunic with a waistline; however, in order to accommodate for growth, a semi-fitted princess style was recommended. / Dissertation (MConsumer Science)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Consumer Science / unrestricted

Prediction of the Effects of Creep of Concrete Under Non-Uniform Stress

Gray, David C. 12 1900 (has links)
The problem of predicting the stresses and strains in a plain concrete member subject to sustained non-uniform stress is investigated. Two theoretical methods of solving this problem are presented. Both were used to predict the strains and stresses of four eccentrically-loaded plain concrete prisms which formed a part of an experimental program. The experimental program also furnished data necessary for both of the theoretical approaches. It is concluded that the two methods are useful, and that they may be easily modified to deal with problems involving the sustained load characteristics of reinforced concrete members. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (ME)
