Taking into account those rituals, we show up how death and union - as ways of social reproduction of life - even if being central issues in the everyday life of any community, are dealt with in peculiar ways, yet mobilizing cultural resources shared with other communities, assuming previous social and moral configurations and having as effect their reinterpretation and rearrangement. In order to accomplish this task we carried on ethnographies of marriage and funerals, interviews, and narratives besides following families daily lives before, during and after those events: what they think , how they act, what they speak about themselves and how they connect inside and outside of their social spaces. / Esta disserta??o ? uma reflex?o sobre o significado dos rituais matrimoniais e funer?rios na organiza??o social de uma pequena comunidade camponesa no Norte Fluminense. Ao examinar esses rituais, tentamos mostrar como a morte e a uni?o - tendo em vista a reprodu??o da vida -, temas centrais do ponto de vista existencial em qualquer comunidade, s?o tratados na pr?tica, de modo particular, mas mobilizando recursos culturais compartilhados com outras comunidades, tendo como pressuposto certa configura??o s?cio-moral e como efeito, sua reinterpreta??o e rearranjo. Para tanto, realizamos etnografias de casamentos e funerais, entrevistas e narrativas, al?m de acompanharmos cotidianamente as fam?lias antes, durante e depois desses eventos: o que pensam , como agem, o que falam sobre eles, e como se relacionam dentro e fora desses espa?os sociais.

Associada historicamente ao cultivo de cana e à produção de açúcar, a Região Norte Fluminense, conjunto de 9 municípios situados na porção nordeste do estado, vem sendo alvo de intensos processos de reorganização espacial e de alteração nas relações entre o campo e a cidade. Tais processos incluem a decadência da cadeia agroindustrial sucro-alcooleira regional e das lavouras canavieiras, a grande expansão da exploração de petróleo na plataforma continental da Bacia de Campos, a recente emancipação de distritos e criação de 5 novos municípios, o recebimento e aplicação de recursos provenientes do pagamento de royalties às prefeituras, a acelerada expansão da cidade de Macaé, que se aproxima de Campos como principal centro urbano regional e, por fim, o desenvolvimento do programa Frutificar, que nos últimos anos gerou a implantação de lavouras irrigadas de maracujá, abacaxi e côco, principalmente nos municípios de São Francisco de Itabapoana e Campos dos Goytacazes. O objetivo geral da pesquisa é investigar como vem ocorrendo uma reorganização espacial no Norte Fluminense, envolvendo a combinação das formas relativas ao campo e à cidade e das funções que abrigam ruralidades e urbanidades. Realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica acerca das relações campo-cidade, colocando em questão certas visões sobre este tema, limitadas por não distinguir claramente campo de rural ou cidade de urbano. Trata-se de um esforço para esclarecer distintos conjuntos de significados atribuídos a tais expressões e descartar um viés produtivista, próprio da sociologia da agricultura e tão comumente caro à geografia agrária. A pesquisa aprofunda uma perspectiva de análise através da qual funções e costumes de origem rural não desaparecem em face da urbanização, pois são construídos por agentes sociais. Enquanto cidade e campo são formas no espaço, rural e urbano são conteúdos sociais dessas formas, que podem se combinar e conviver nos mesmos locais, nas práticas dos mesmos agentes sociais. Refutam-se expressões como espaço rural ou espaço urbano, e opta-se pela indicação da presença de ruralidades e urbanidades no território fluminense, fazendo referência não exatamente a espaços ou a modos de vida, porém a hábitos, costumes, funções e racionalidades. A novidade está em incluir o urbano no rural e vice-versa, tendo a consciência de que um é pensado a partir do outro. Em suma, realiza-se uma crítica teórica e metodológica acerca das interpretações sobre as relações campo-cidade, colocando em foco a Região Norte Fluminense. / Traditionally connected to sugarcane cultivation and production, the North Fluminense Region - a group of cities located in the Rio de Janeiro state - has been being targeted by intensive process of territorial reorganization, such as the following: the decline in agribusiness sugar and ethanol sector and in sugarcane fields; the large expansion of oil exploration on Campos continental shelf; the recent emancipation of districts and creation of 5 municipalities; the receipt and investment of resources arising from royalties payment to municipalities; the accelerated expansion of Macaé, which is getting close to Campos as main urban regional center; and, lastly, the development of a Frutificar program, which has recently originated the irrigated passion fruit, pineapple and coconut fields, particularly in São Francisco do Itabapoana and Campos. The main object of this research is investigate how territorial reorganization has been happened concerning the arrangement of country and city forms and functions that embrace ruralidades and urbanidades. A bibliographic review regarding country-cities relations in order to question some points of view about this subject restricted by not clearly distinguish campo from rural and cidade from urbano was accomplished. It is an attempt to clarify the different sets of meanings attributed to such expressions and to refuse a productivity bias belongs to the sociology of agriculture and so generally dear to agricultural geography. The research develops a perspective through functions and rural customs that does not disappear in the face of urbanization because they are built by social agents. While cidade and campo are forms in territory, rural and urbano are social contents of these forms, which can be combined and settled in the same places and in the practices of the same social agents. Expressions like espaço rural and espaço urbano are refused and are replaced by the presence of ruralidades and urbanidades in the fluminense territory referring not exactly to an area or to a way of life but to habits, customs, functions and rationalities. The innovation consists in including urbano in rural, and vice versa, with the awareness that one is considering from the other. Briefly, there is a theoretical and methodological criticism of interpretations about country-cities relations focus on North Fluminense Region.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Esta tese analisa o pensamento-ação de Darcy Ribeiro e como seus fazimentos podem ter influenciado a educação superior brasileira. Com uma intensa participação política no campo governamental, nos anos 1960 criou a Universidade de Brasília (UnB) e, posteriormente, a Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF) nos anos 1990. Este estudo por meio da análise das categorias Ideologia, Estado e Sociedade Civil analisa como se naturalizam os fatos históricos, relativizando as pretensões teóricas do liberalismo. Também assinala as tendências culturais e econômicas predatórias do processo de globalização econômica. Assim, seguindo as orientações dos organismos internacionais, os governos brasileiros vêm delegando para o setor privado responsabilidades de oferta da educação superior, por meio de diferentes estratégias privatizantes no setor público. Por fim, o presente estudo investiga a importância do pensamento humanista e das ações do intelectual Darcy Ribeiro. Desta forma, abordamos seus fazimentos para a universidade brasileira, inspirado na diversificação dos povos e no reconhecimento do que chamou processo civilizatório, vinculando seus escritos às ações concretas, para a construção da Universidade Necessária. / This thesis analyzes the path made by Darcy Ribeiro and how his thoughts and acts influenced the brazilian education. He had an intense political participation in the government, in the 60s with the creation of the Universidade de Brasília (UnB) and the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense (UENF), in years 1990. This study also analyses the meaning of the conception of State and Civil Society. It demonstrates how the ideology gets to naturalize historic facts. This research strongly criticizes the theory claims of the liberalism and also points to the culturally and economically predatory trends of the present globalization process. Following orientations of international organs, the Brazilian administrations have been delegating responsibilities of financing and providing higher education to the private sector, by means of different privatization strategies in the public sector. This work takes about the importance in the development of humanist thought and actions of Darcy Ribeiro, by understanding that diversification of people and their recognition, which he called civilizing process, are closely connected in his writings and in his actions in view of the creation the University Necessary.

EDF is also the first electricity producer and supplier in France. However, Europe, EDF’s core market, is currently underperforming: the European sovereign debt crisis is lowering significantly the growth perspective of an energy market that has already reached its maturity. As a consequence, European energy companies are now looking at international markets and especially BRIC economies where economic growth potential remains high. Among them, Brazil is expected to keep its strong economic and electricity demand growth perspectives for the coming decades. Though Brazil has not been considered as a strategic priority for EDF after the Light reversal in 2006, the current economic situation has led the Group to reconsider its position toward the country. EDF’s current presence in Brazil is limited to its stake in UTE Norte Fluminense, a thermal plant, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. This report investigates the possibility and the feasibility of EDF’s activities expansion in Brazil and what added value it could bring for the Brazilian power market. Considering that the status quo would not allow EDF to take full advantage of Brazil’s future growth, this work is identifying the various options that are currently opened to EDF: market exit, status quo, EDF alone, local partner. For that purpose, this study collects and analyses the latest energy market data as well as generation companies’ information which are necessary to give a relevant overview of the current brazilian power sector and to present EDF strategic options for the country.
