Evaluation of a technique employing the chemosterilant diethylstilbestrol for suppressing reproduction of wild foxes in VirginiaOleyar, Claude Michael January 1969 (has links)
A field test using diethylstilbestrol was conducted on the 13,000-acre Havens area on Fort Lewis Mountain, Roanoke County, Virginia; reference areas were also selected. Foxes were pre-conditioned to bait acceptance using molded beef suet. A total of 614 suet baits each containing diethylstilbestrol (50 mg) and oral marker (35 mg of demethylchlortetracycline) were distributed seven times from late January to late March. After a 3-week delay, animals were trapped on all areas and examined for reproductive success and marker evidence.
Foxes consumed at least 20 percent of all baits and other identifiable species consumed 12 percent; however, unidentified visitors consumed 43 percent. Twenty-one gray foxes (11 marked) and four red foxes (one marked) were trapped on the treated area. Two female red foxes from the treated.area and one from a reference area successfully reproduced. None were marked. All (six) female gray foxes from the treated area were barren and anovulatory. Two of five marked females probably were yearlings; the unmarked female was 4 or more years old. Five of six female gray foxes from reference areas successfully reproduced. The barren female was an anovulatory yearling. At the P<0.025 level (l d.f., chi-square = 5.17) unsuccessful reproduction was associated with the treatment. No other species showed evidence of marker or effects of treatment. / Master of Science

a geometria e estabilidade do tetracicloxigênio (O4) motivou o presente
sofisticados do tipo CASSCF, incluindo teoria de perturbação, correção do

Estimates of capital stocks and capital productivity in Austrian manufacturing industries: 1978-1994Hölzl, Werner, Leisch, Robert January 2004 (has links) (PDF)
We present gross, net and productive capital stock estimates for 20 industries of the Austrian manufacturing sector based on the perpetual inventory method for the period 1969-1994. The estimation of the net capital stocks and the volume index of capital services follows an integrated method derived from the neoclassical theory of investment. Based on the estimates we calculate capital intensity and capital productivity measures for the 20 industries and provide estimates of capital productivity developments. We find that capital productivity decreased only for 5 out of the 20 industries. The other industries showed in part marked increases in both capital and labor productivity. Vibration control and design of composite cantilevers taking into account structural uncertainties and damageOh, Donghoon 28 July 2008 (has links)
Within this work a study of the vibrations of laminated composite cantilevers exhibiting structural uncertainties and damage is accomplished. The study is performed within both the Classical Lamination (CLT) and the First-order Transverse Shear Deformation Theories (FSDT). Upon comparing the natural frequencies and mode shapes obtained by both theories, the effects of transverse shear deformation will be emphasized. Other nonclassical effects as e.g. the bending-twist coupling and the warping restraint on the cantilevered structure are also considered. As passive techniques of vibration control, structural tailoring and optimization are implemented. To deal with structural uncertainties, a probabilistic discretization technique for the governing system is developed. Statistical properties of natural frequencies are obtained by means of a second-moment method and a first-order perturbation technique. Structural tailoring is reconsidered to reduce the sensitivity of the dynamic behavior to parameter uncertainties. Next, the damage effect on the structure is considered in the design process. As a result, the problem of the robustness of structures in the presence of damage is addressed. This work also deals with the active feedback control of cantilevered structural systems. An efficient control technique for continuous structures, namely modal control, is adopted and the control gain is obtained by an optimal control law. The comparison of controlled and uncontrolled dynamic responses is made between two models based on CLT and FSDT with emphasis on the influence played by transverse shear deformation and warping restraint. / Ph. Previous issue date: 2015-03-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / Zinc stannate (Zn2SnO4) and zinc titanate (Zn2TiO4) are inverse spineltype
oxides and stand out due to their optical, electrical, magnetic,
semiconductor and photocatalytic properties. In this work, the two
materials were combined in order to obtain a solid solution, Zn2Sn1-xTixO4
(x= 0; 0.25; 0.50; 0.75; 1.0), using the modified-Pechini method, in
order to evaluate the influence of the Sn4+ ions substitution by Ti4+ ones in
the spinel lattice for application as catalysts in the photodiscoloration of
the golden yellow remazol. Catalysts were characterized by the X-ray
diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), ultraviolet-visible
spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Raman spectroscopy and surface area
measurements (BET). XRD results showed that the materials presented a
high long range order when heat treated at 700 °C, using zinc acetate and
pH = 1. IR and Raman spectra confirmed the presence of the [TiO6] and
[SnO6] octahedra and (ZnO4) tetrahedron. The parameters used in the
dye discoloration were: catalyst mass and irradiation times. The results
showed that a higher irradiation time provided a better efficiency.
Zn2SnO4 presented the best result, with 81 % of discoloration after 4 h of
irradiation. As tin was replaced by titanium in the spinel structure, the
catalyst efficiency decreased, achieving 37 % for the Zn2TiO4.

e tetraedro (ZnO4).

The rate of interest, economic growth, and inflation. An alternative theoretical perspective.Smithin, John January 2002 (has links) (PDF)
The premise of this paper is that in a monetary production economy, policy decisions of the central bank, or more generally the 'monetary authority', set the tone not only for nominal interest rates but also for 'real' interest rates defined in the usual way. This is a different question than that of which institution(s) acquire the status of monetary authority at any particular stage of socioeconomic or technological development. Rather the suggestion is that the existence of some such social structure is a prerequisite if anything resembling capitalist monetary production is to be viable. The paper demonstrates that a coherent macroeconomic theory can be elaborated on this basis, including an explanation of economic growth, the business cycle, inflation, the functional distribution of income, the 'Keynesian' problem of the impact of demand growth on economic growth, endogenous money, cumulative causation, and endogenous technical change. A theoretical and experimental study of modal interactions in metallic and laminated composite platesOh, Kyoyul 14 August 2006 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on nonlinear modal interactions in plates. Our first investigation involved the activation of a two-to-one internal resonance in the response of a metallic cantilever plate. Although the plate was excited around the frequency of its second bending mode, its response contained a contribution from its first torsional mode. The frequency ratio between the bending and torsional modes was nearly two-to-one.
Next, we investigated the energy transfer from high-frequency to low-frequency modes in a cantilever graphite-epoxy composite plate (90/30/ — 30/ — 30/30/90)s. The plate was excited around the natural frequency of its seventh (third torsional) mode. For some excitation amplitudes and frequencies, we observed the activation of a low-frequency (first bending) mode accompanied by an amplitude and phase modulation of the seventh mode.
We studied combination resonances in the responses of cantilever composite plates with the layups (90/30/ — 30/ — 30/30/90)s and (—75/75/75/ — 75/75/ — 75)s to harmonic base excitations. We activated the combination resonance fe≈ ω₂ + ω₇ in the (90/30/ — 30/ — 30/30/90)s plate, where the w; are the natural frequencies of the plate and fe is the excitation frequency. In the (—75/75/75/ — 75/75/ — 75)s plate, we activated the external combination resonance fe≈ 1/2(ω₂+ω₅) and the combination internal resonance fe≈1/2(ω₂+ω₁₃) ≈ ω₈.
We carried out an experimental-modal analysis (EMA) of a nonclassically supported plate with and without a constrained-layer damping (CLD) patch attached on its upper left-hand side surface. The natural frequencies and mode shapes were used to ascertain the effect of the CLD patch. / Ph. D.

Between Tax Competition and Harmonisation. A Survey on Tax Coordination.Vondra, Klaus January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This paper gives an overview on the research done in the fields of tax competition, coordination and harmonisation. The survey is divided in two main parts, in the first section we compare the standard tax competition literature that sees tax competition as a bad, to public choice contributions that advocate tax reductions. In the second part we consider theories of endogenous growth, which focus on analysing the taxation question. After introducing the fundamental contributions, we discuss extensions in the line of an open economy, an OLG setting and the transitional dynamics in greater detail.
