LAKI VERBAL INFLECTION

Taghipour, Sahar 01 January 2017 (has links)
This thesis mainly examines inflectional morphology of verbal paradigms in Laki, which is considered as one of the Southern varieties of Kurdish language. The association of form and content of morphological markings are viewed from a realizational angle, in which exponents (morphological forms) are associated with the morphosyntactic properties via the application of rules of exponence, appealed by paradigm functions (Stump 2001) and ordered into rule blocks (Anderson 1992). In particular, I applied the paradigm linkage theory proposed and fully developed by Stump (2002 and 2016) to account for Laki verbal paradigms. In this study, it is claimed that alignment pattern and the syntagmatic combination of some of the inflectional exponents such as agreement markers are sensitive to preterite property. Hence, I argue in favor of considering two distinct morphotactic patternings in Laki. As the result of this assumption, depending on whether the inflectional markers attach to a preterite or a non-preterite stem, we should define two separate sets of affix position in this language. Moreover, I examine Laki polyfunctional agreement markers through the consideration of the morphotactics of this language. Applying Stump's analysis (to appear) of Swahili verbal concords, I consider two distinct types of content for these agreement markers: intrinsic content, and positional content. Their positional content is what the morphotactics of the language determines.

Impact of an Electronic Medical Record Implementation on Drug Allergy Overrides in a Large Southeastern HMO Setting

Varghese, Renny 26 July 2007 (has links)
Renny Varghese Impact of an Electronic Medical Record Implementation on Drug Allergy Overrides in a Large Southeastern HMO Setting (Under the direction of Russell Toal, Associate Professor) Electronic medical records (EMRs) have become recognized as an important tool for improving patient safety and quality of care. Decision support tools such as alerting functions for patient medication allergies are a key part of reducing the frequency of serious medication problems. Kaiser Permanente Georgia (KPGA) implemented its EMR system in the primary care departments at Kaiser's twelve facilities in the greater metro Atlanta area over a six month period beginning in June 2005 and ending December 2005. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of the EMR implementation on the number of drug allergy overrides within this large HMO outpatient setting. Research was conducted by comparing the rate of drug allergy overrides during pre and post EMR implementation. The timeline will be six months pre and post implementation. Observing the impact of the incidence rate of drug allergy alerts after the implementation provided insight into the effectiveness of EMRs in reducing contraindicated drug allergies. Results show that the incidence rate of drug allergy overrides per 1,000 filled prescriptions rose by a statistically significant 5.9% (ñ > 0.0002; 95% CI [-1.531, -0.767]) following the implementation. Although results were unexpected, several factors are discussed as to the reason for the increase. Further research is recommended to explore trends in provider behavior, KPGA specific facilities and departments, and in other KP regions and non-KP healthcare settings. INDEX WORDS: electronic medical records, drug allergy overrides, patient safety, medication errors, decision support tools, outpatient setting, primary care, computerized provider order entry

[en] THE PRACTICE OF LEGISLATIVE OVERRIDE OF JUDICIAL DECISION / [pt] O FENÔMENO DA CORREÇÃO LEGISLATIVA DE DECISÃO JUDICIAL

GUSTAVO ANTUNES SENGES 12 September 2018 (has links)
[en] The debate about the legitimacy of judicial review to frustrate the majority s will as expressed by a democratically elected legislature has been the object of study and criticism in both national and foreign Law. In Brazil, some scholars argue that the expansion of the Supreme Court s judicial review power may undermind the democratic process itself. In this scenario, the search for effectiveness of the Constitution, the judicialization of rights and the new threats faced by contemporary societies, give the Judiciary a more prominent role. Through case studies and an analysis of foreign legal systems, this thesis examines the overrides of Supreme Court decisions by Legislature as a mean through which the equilibrium between the Judicial and Legislative branches are rebalanced and harmonized within the constitutional decision-making process.
