Mapeamento temático das teses defendidas nos programas de pós-graduação em educação física no brasil (1994-2008) / Thematic survey about Physical Education thesis in Brasil (1994-2008).

Nascimento, Ana Claudia Silverio 19 May 2010 (has links)
This research general aim is to survey thematically the defended thesis on Physical Education PhD Programme from 1994 to 2008. The specific aims are: to feature the PPGEF (Physical Education Postgraduate Programme) which have PhD course related to the year they have been created and its particular areas, research lines and amount of thesis defended; to identify the key-words used in the thesis; to identify the thesis subjects and relate it to its particular areas and research lines which were produced. The research corpus is composed for 333 thesis defended on six programmes: Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade Gama Filho, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Universidade Estadual Paulista and Universidade Católica de Brasília. The nature of research is to explore and the data analysis were made from scientometrics techniques proving that the programmes are organized in twelve particular areas and 42 research lines that present a way of organizing around two areas ( biodynamics and culture) . The work indentified 733 key-words , mentioned 1073 times. From the total, 604 words appear only once and the others more than once pointing out dispersion of terms and those are close of a natural speech. It shows the lack of specific language of the area. The survey pointed the dominance of the following subjects: Physical/Sportive Training (12,9%), Biomechanics (8,7%) Physical Activity/Sportive to special groups (8,4%); Teacher Training/Physical Education and curriculum (8,1%); Physiology (7,5%); Sociology (6,6%) e Physical Education in school / sportive school (6,3%). It shows that there is a good coherence between the themes mentioned, specific areas and research lines, even though there is a big amount of research lines that present low production and that, because its range, nestle a theme dispersion.

Stressors and Time-to-Degree for Online Social Sciences Doctoral Programs

Nelson, Brandy R 01 January 2018 (has links)
U.S. doctoral program completion rates have remained persistently low in the humanities and biomedical sciences despite educators' efforts. A variety of factors, including stress and dissitation advisor-related issues, were associated with high attrition rates and extended time-to-degree for PhD candidates. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine relationships among life stressors, advisor-related factors, and time-to-degree for a convenience sample of 74 online social sciences doctoral degree holders. Holmes and Rahe's work on stress and Tinto's framework for education program attrition provided the framework for the study. Linear regression and Pearson's correlation statistics were used to examine the relationships between Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS) scores, Advisor-Related Factor scores, and time-to-degree after controlling for covariates of age, ethnicity, and gender. Key findings included: a) SRRS significantly (p < .01) predicted time-to-degree after controlling for age, ethnicity, and gender; and b) no significant relationship was found between advisor-related factors. By identifying at-risk students, early intervention could reduce the time need to complete a PhD program and reduce financial and university resources required to finish. Doctoral program administrators could provide closer supervision with PhD candidates and make adjustments based on an accumulation of extraordinary stressors to help PhD candidiates adjust and finish their programs.

Teaching an Old Robot New Tricks: Learning Novel Tasks via Interaction with People and Things

Marjanovic, Matthew J. 20 June 2003 (has links)
As AI has begun to reach out beyond its symbolic, objectivist roots into the embodied, experientialist realm, many projects are exploring different aspects of creating machines which interact with and respond to the world as humans do. Techniques for visual processing, object recognition, emotional response, gesture production and recognition, etc., are necessary components of a complete humanoid robot. However, most projects invariably concentrate on developing a few of these individual components, neglecting the issue of how all of these pieces would eventually fit together. The focus of the work in this dissertation is on creating a framework into which such specific competencies can be embedded, in a way that they can interact with each other and build layers of new functionality. To be of any practical value, such a framework must satisfy the real-world constraints of functioning in real-time with noisy sensors and actuators. The humanoid robot Cog provides an unapologetically adequate platform from which to take on such a challenge. This work makes three contributions to embodied AI. First, it offers a general-purpose architecture for developing behavior-based systems distributed over networks of PC's. Second, it provides a motor-control system that simulates several biological features which impact the development of motor behavior. Third, it develops a framework for a system which enables a robot to learn new behaviors via interacting with itself and the outside world. A few basic functional modules are built into this framework, enough to demonstrate the robot learning some very simple behaviors taught by a human trainer. A primary motivation for this project is the notion that it is practically impossible to build an "intelligent" machine unless it is designed partly to build itself. This work is a proof-of-concept of such an approach to integrating multiple perceptual and motor systems into a complete learning agent.

Research Trends In Ceit Ms And Phd. Theses In Turkey: A Content Analysis

Ugur Erdogmus, Feray 01 February 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The main aim of this study is to look for trends in the instructional technology field in Turkey and to visualize general tendencies in the field in research topics, research types, and methodologies. Content analysis research design was used in this study. In this study, the unit of analysis was MS theses and PhD. theses published in instructional technology departments in Turkey, and the researcher aimed to analyze all of the population. Hence, 215 MS theses and 32 PhD. theses were analyzed in this study. The data were categorized according to characteristics of the MS theses and PhD. theses (author, university, advisor, and publication year), research topics, research methods, sample type, sample size, data collection methods and research settings. These categories were statistically analyzed. In these statistical analyses both frequencies of these categories and fluctuations of these categories in time were analyzed. The findings of the study indicated that most of the MS theses were published in the Middle East Technical University and most of the dissertations were published in Ankara University. In addition to this, most of the MS theses and PhD. theses used quantitative research methods, and experimental studies were the most popular type. Not surprisingly, the study results revealed that convenient sampling was the most preferred sampling method and most of the studies used 31 &ndash / 100 subjects in their samples. Moreover, questionnaires, aptitude tests and interview schedules were the most common data gathering instruments used, and higher education was the most preferred research environment for the studies analyzed. Finally, most of the MS theses and PhD. theses focused on delivery system media formats, comparison studies and learner variables.
