Contribution à la mise au point de matériaux métalliques pour les unités de production d'hydrogène par vaporéformage du gaz naturel : 1/ Étude de l'oxydation de matériaux de structure à l'air entre 650 et 1050°C. 2/ Élaboration de revêtements et étude de leur résistance à l'oxydation / Contribution to the development of metal materials for hydrogen production units by steam reforming of natural gas : 1 / Study of the oxidation of structural materials in air between 650 and 1050°C. 2 / Development of coatings and study of their oxidation resistance

Ledoux, Xavier 12 April 2012 (has links)
L'alliage aluminisé maintien le caractère alumine-formeur au moins 10000 heures à 1000°C / The LokiR project aims to develop new steam reforming reactor to optimize the production of hydrogen. In this context, the protection of metallic alloys composing the reactor must be improved. In this thesis, the behavior of two chromia-forming alloys (Haynes© 120 and 230) was studied at high temperature under oxidizing conditions and protective coatings, able to improve their resistance against oxidation, have been developed. The study reveals that the alloys protect themselves by the growth of a chromia layer during their oxidation in air in the range 650-1050°C. This leads to a parabolic-like oxidation kinetics with low constant values for these types of alloys. The magnitude of the alloys life time at 1000°C was estimated at about 8 years in air. Chromia growth is controlled by the diffusion of the oxygen vacancy defect as well as high and low oxygen pressure. The tests indicate that the chromization of Haynes© 120 alloy leads an alpha-(Cr, Fe, Ni) phase that can be enriched with silicon. However, the behavior of these coatings oxidation at 1050°C, is, overall, unsatisfactory. The aluminization of the alloy Haynes © 120 leads to the formation of a beta-Al (Ni, Fe, Cr) coating. The oxidation study of the alloy thus coated leads to the initial growth of a transition alumina and, then, to the growth of the steady alpha-Al2O3. This last reduces the rate of oxidation and improves the thermal shock resistance. The aluminized alloy maintains the alumina-forming nature at least 10000 hours at 1000°C

A qualitative exploration of children's experiences of role-play in two pack-away early childhood settings

Kingdon, Zenna Mary January 2017 (has links)
In this thesis, I explored children’s experiences of role-play in relation to notions of self. The research took place in two pack-away settings in the Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) sector of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). The experiences of eight children, aged between three-year-three months and four-years one month, were investigated over a period of seven months. I used an adaptation of The Mosaic Approach (Clark and Moss 2001) combined with a reflective lenses approach (Brookfield 1995) to create a three-dimensional view of the children’s experiences. The children and I used a range of tools to gather data including digital cameras, conferencing, drawing and map-making. Children were conceptualised as agentic and capable of commenting on their lives and experiences (James et al 1998, Qvortrup 2004, Cosaro 2010). The findings revealed that children engage in Wave Play, a fluid form of role-play in which they move both props and ideas from space to space. Practitioners support the children in finding the necessary props and allowing them to move from one area of the setting to another. The children displayed positive self-esteem and effective social behaviours showing an awareness of themselves as social beings. They were confident that their needs will be met when they request support. In their role-play activities, they showed their understanding of themselves as integrated selves; beings, becomings and having beens (Cross 2011). Adults in pack-away settings can support children effectively by adopting a flexible pedagogical approach.

Design and Performance of an Event Handling and Analysis Platform for vSGSN-MME event using the ELK stack

Bandari Swamy Devender, Vamshi Krishna, Adike, Sneha January 2019 (has links)
Data Logging is the main activity to be considered in maintaining a server or database in working condition without any errors or failures. Data collection can be automatic, so, no human presence is necessary. To store the data of logs for many days and visualizing became a huge problem in recent days. Coming to node SGSN-MME, which is the main component of the GPRS network, which handles all packet switched data within the mobile operator's network. A lot of log data is generated and stored in file systems on the redundant File Server Boards in SGSN-MME node. The evolution of the SGSN-MME is taking it from dedicated, purpose-built, hardware into virtual machines in the Cloud, where virtual file server boards fit very badly. The purpose of this thesis is to give a better way to store the log data and add visualization using the ELK stack concept. Fetching useful information from logs is one of the most important part of this stack and is being done in Logstash using its grok filters and a set of input, filter and output plug-ins which helps to scale this functionality for taking various kinds of inputs ( file,TCP, UDP, gemfire, stdin, UNIX, web sockets and even IRC and twitter and many more) , filter them using (groks, grep, date filters etc.)and finally write output to ElasticSearch. The Research Methodology involved in carrying out this thesis work is a Qualitative approach. A study is carried using the ELK concept with respect to Legacy approach in Ericsson company. A suitable approach and the better possible solution is given to the vSGSN-MME node to store the log data. Also to provide the performance and uses multiple users of input providers and provides the analysis of the graphs from the results and analysis. To perform the tests accurately, readings are taken in defined failure scenarios. From the test cases, a plot is provided on the CPU load in vSGSN-MME which easily gives the suitable and best promising way.

Packing: An Architect's Guide

Lacalamita, Andrea 15 July 2011 (has links)
A study of packing constructs a critique of the everyday: a dialogue between chaos and order, surface and area, interior and exterior, gravity and lightness. In search of tangible expression of the spatial processes I am responsible for, I have become both master architect and expert packer. I have composed this thesis the same way I pack: I have assembled piles of fragments, regrouped them, reconsidered, edited, alloted them more or less space. Things have become more and less valuable. Quotes and images are precious, like artifacts, tucked delicately between text-filled pages. Each word I write, each line I draw, creates a boundary, a parcel, a unit of space set apart from the white of the page. This book is my suitcase.

Energy Efficient, Electric-Hydraulic Power Pack / Energieffektivt el-hydrauliskt powerpack

Nyman, Johan, Rankka, Amy January 2015 (has links)
Along with increased oil prices and rising environmental issues, a demand for alternatives to combustion engine driven hydraulic applications has risen. In the field of mobile hydraulics, the hydraulic applications have traditionally been driven by the combustion engine of the vehicle on which they are mounted. By instead using a battery driven power pack the hydraulic application is able to operate without the engine running, saving fuel costs and reducing sound levels. In this thesis, the concept of using an electric-hydraulic power pack with a variable-speed electric motor and a fixed-displacement hydraulic pump to provide power to a truck-mounted loader crane is investigated. This concept is compared to an electric-hydraulic system imitating the conventional combustion engine system by using a fixed-speed electric motor connected to a variable-displacement pump. The use of a variable speed motor where the speed can be controlled electrically by a control unit creates possibilities of using different control strategies to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the application. The efficiencies of the two electric-hydraulic systems are compared by constructing a physical test rig and performing measurements in a test lab. The tests have shown an increased efficiency of about 20 \% when using the variable speed configuration. Three different control strategies are also investigated and tested on a simulated model. The simulations show that very good responsiveness and robustness can be achieved by using a hydraulic flow feed forward controller with a complementary pressure feedback controller. Furthermore, by controlling the hydraulic flow to the heaviest of the crane loads entirely with the flow from the hydraulic pump, the hydraulic pressure can be reduced and energy efficiency increased.

Evidence-Based Reviews: History, Utility, and Application

Field, Lindsey 1982- 02 October 2013 (has links)
Performing evidence-based reviews (EBR) is a growing and important area of research, and more graduate students should be educated in this area. EBRs provide conclusions based on science and follow a specific methodology to decrease bias, consider all pertinent science on the topic, and have transparency. This thesis is two-fold and includes: 1) a faculty course manual on how to facilitate a college course on EBR and 2) an EBR manuscript on the utility of nutrition labeling to affect consumers’ ability to select more nutritious products and whether or not nutrition labeling can affect purchase and consumption of more nutritious products. This EBR is timely in that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has called for a moratorium on Front-of-Pack labeling (FOP) until two Institute of Medicine Committees have produced their reports and FDA has interpreted those reports. The intention of the manuscript is that it will aid in this interpretation. Of 978 articles collected, 699 were excluded using exclusion/inclusion criteria, 253 were identified as secondary articles, and 26 were used for the EBR. Results: Ten studies answered question #1 on whether or not consumers can pick a more nutritious product by reading labels and 21 answered question #2 on whether consumers actually change their purchasing and/or eating behavior by using labels. Studies ranged from simple cross-sectional studies that used survey data to more complex studies that collected sales data or performed in-store observations. In conclusion, consumers are able to use food labels to pick more nutritious products. Preliminary evidence suggests that a subset of health conscious consumers will read food labels to select a healthier product within a product category. Less evidence exists that reading labels actually results in a change of food intake. More intervention rather than survey studies are required to address this issue. In addition, the next stages of investigation should include looking at the whole diet, rather than just individual foods, and finally what affect the whole diet may have on overall health.

Prescription medicine samples and therapy initiation. Developing a best practice system with community pharmacists in Australia

Gregory Kyle Unknown Date (has links)
Prescription medicine samples are a product based promotion designed to facilitate brand switching or uptake of a new product. Marketing of pharmaceuticals differs from other products since the primary decision maker (doctor) is not the ultimate consumer (patient). Marketing of medicines also has an overlay of government regulations and political influence. It is argued whether free samples of prescription medicines provided to doctors constitute a “gift” or a trial quantity with which to initiate therapy and test patient tolerance of the drug concerned. Either way, samples are an integral part of the prescription medicine marketing tapestry and they have become woven into the “fabric” of drug promotion. The international literature abounds with papers describing pharmaceutical promotion and myriads of surveys obtaining prescribers’ opinions about pharmaceutical promotion. Few studies have been conducted or reported to ascertain the reasons behind the opinions expressed as disagreement/agreement scales to specific statements. Interventions to alter practice targeting alternative methods of distribution of samples (rather than direct from company to prescriber) are also rare; therefore the aim of this research was to qualitatively explore opinions regarding samples to develop an intervention to ensure samples do not have an adverse effect on prescribing practice and to test the model in a practice environment. In order to assess the place of samples within the totality of pharmaceutical promotion, a model was derived from the literature and tested with a hypothetical, but realistic practice-based scenario. This highlighted the interplay between the various methods involved in pharmaceutical promotion, their target audiences and the potential interplay and synergism that could be achieved through a co-ordinated campaign. Quantification of the expenditure on samples was also required in the Australian context to assess the potential impact of interventions targeting this promotional mode. Samples were found to account for approximately 5% of the total marketing spend in Australia. No clear relationship could be found between sample expenditure and drug sales, utilizing data on the proton pump inhibitor therapeutic class. However, a pattern of decaying spending was found between the amount spent on samples per unit pack dispensed and the time a product had been available on the market. A range of interested parties were then interviewed to gain their opinions about free prescription medicine samples. The interviews were split into two groups: consumers, pharmacists and practicing general practitioners (GPs) provided an operational level focus, while a range of key informants from organisations involved in Quality Use of Medicines in Australia provided a strategic overview. The transcripts of the focus groups and interviews were qualitatively analysed to extract key themes which were quite similar. Examples included ‘pay’ in the operational group compared to ‘cost’ in the strategic group. These concepts express a similar sentiment, yet ‘pay’ is a more personal action whereas ‘cost’ does not imply who must meet the financial outlay. These resultant themes formed the basis of the intervention developed to pilot in a practice environment to assess its practicality for wider study. In addition to the extensive interview process, a mail survey was conducted in three divisions (geographical groupings) of general practice. Each family doctor (General Practitioner (GP)) and community pharmacist within the divisions received a questionnaire to gather their opinions about samples. This was the first time GPs and pharmacists had been surveyed simultaneously to gather comparative results. No differences were found between the metropolitan division and the accumulated results from the two regional divisions. Pharmacists and GPs differed predominantly in their perceptions of promotional influence of samples, appropriateness of self use and meeting legal requirements for labelling dispensed medicines. These factors were incorporated in the pilot study design. An action research methodology was utilised to assess the practicality of community pharmacist dispensing of starter packs for antihypertensives and antidepressants in two regional GP practices in Queensland, Australia. In this pilot study, a total of 32 starter packs were prescribed to 31 patients over the four months of the intervention period, with 29 (91%) dispensed at a study pharmacy and 17 (53%) of subsequent full prescriptions able to be tracked through Medicare Australia data or the study pharmacies. Antidepressants comprised the majority of prescriptions (n=16, 55%) Each of the 29 patients who received a starter pack completed a patient survey which demonstrated high levels of support (n=22, 76%) for the model in the pilot. GPs and pharmacists involved in the pilot were also generally supportive of the pilot model. In conclusion, opinions held about free prescription medicine samples by a wide range of apparently disparate groups show similar themes and community pharmacist involvement in dispensing starter (or sample) packs has general acceptance. The model piloted in this research was applicable in daily practice for general practitioners and community pharmacists in Australia. Consumers accepted the pilot model as an acceptable change to current procedures. The research presented in this thesis provides a solid foundation for development of a more widespread trial for dispensing of all prescription medicine starter packs through community pharmacies to be rigorously evaluated in Australia.
