______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work presents the Matrix Pencil technique for obtaining the signals last time. The mathematical concepts of the Matrix Pencil technique formulation and its application to econstruction of signals are presented. It begins with a detailed topics of Linear Algebra, mainly on eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The formulation of this technique is showed in details. Then, applications that involve the reconstruction of signals represented by exponentially damped functions are made. Matlab software are used in simulations nvolving antennas parameters. The signal reconstruction was made by using 25% or less of the early time available samples. It demonstrates the Matrix Pencil applicability to problems that require huge iterative computational work. Finally, it was shown applications for radiation patterns noise reduction due to reflections and decreasing the processing time in signals obtained by finite difference time domain method (FDTD). It is also showed the possibility of boundary conditions elimination in electromagnetism numerical simulations.

Analysis of an Embedded Singularity Chipless RFID Tag

Blischak, Andrew Travis 28 July 2011 (has links)
The objective of this research is to explore the feasibility of a chipless RFID tag that stores a data signature in the form of complex frequency plane singularities. To this end an existing chipless RFID tag, the notched elliptical dipole tag, was analyzed first with simulations and then measurements. A pole signature was extracted from simulations, and individual poles were determined via experimentation to be attributable to specific controllable features of the tag. The poles were shown to be independent of both excitation and observation. A prototype tag was measured, and the pole signature was retrieved from the scattered fields. The tag was successfully read for different orientations showing that embedded singularities can be used as a means for encoding and retrieving data. / Master of Science

Illustrating Life

Dean, H.A. Mark 01 January 2006 (has links)
My paintings contain both abstract and figurative elements that share an underlying theme: spiritual symbolism that conveys positive principles to live by. The symbolism that underscores my content carries over to my choice of palette; for example, red or yellow implies the vitality of life while purple stands for royalty. With my drawings, I concentrate on highly realistic graphite portraits of individuals I know. I present them in the environments in which they live to help highlight their unique personalities. With both painting and drawing, my goal is to illustrate spiritual philosophies on macro and micro levels respectively.

Cultural Identity

Faulcon, Laura J. 01 January 2006 (has links)
Living and thriving in a diverse culture has allowed me to appreciate all that people have to offer, regardless of where they come from. It is my intention to portray an individual cultural sensitivity, while celebrating the qualities that unite all people. The four elements that are common in my work are scenes of livelihood, religion, entertainment, and family. Though some people may strongly identify with one particular culture, I have had the privilege of being assimilated and accepted in to many. I intend to show my affection and appreciation for them all, through detailed drawings, bold use of color, and expressive photography.

Construction of Scalable Macro-models of Interconnects Using the Time-Domain Pencil of Matrix Method

Wu, Che-Ching 29 July 2009 (has links)
As the circuit density and clock rate in SIP or SOC getting higher, the crosstalk interference between interconnects becomes more and more serious. This results in the degradation of signal integrity. Full wave simulation softwares such as HFSS are often used to analyze the characteristics of the transmission system, but the computation time is relatively long and it is difficult to integrate with active circuits. On the other hand, circuit simulation softwares such as ADS has the advantages of simplicity and needs less simulation time. The circuit simulation softwares is so far the best tool of designing high speed circuits. Usually obtain scalable equivalent macro-model in the existing literature with the technology of the frequency-domain, but using the technology of the time-domain to construct scalable equivalent macro-model have more direct, convenient and low-cost. Therefore, considering cost and practicability, this thesis develops a systematic method using the method of Pencil Matrix in time domain to obtain the scalable broadband equivalent macro-model of the components of high-speed interconnect structures. The developed macro-models can be applied to existing simulation softwares for a fast and accurate analysis of systems such as SIP.

A numerically stable, structure preserving method for computing the eigenvalues of real Hamiltonian or symplectic pencils

Benner, P., Mehrmann, V., Xu, H. 30 October 1998 (has links) (PDF)
A new method is presented for the numerical computation of the generalized eigen- values of real Hamiltonian or symplectic pencils and matrices. The method is strongly backward stable, i.e., it is numerically backward stable and preserves the structure (i.e., Hamiltonian or symplectic). In the case of a Hamiltonian matrix the method is closely related to the square reduced method of Van Loan, but in contrast to that method which may suffer from a loss of accuracy of order sqrt(epsilon), where epsilon is the machine precision, the new method computes the eigenvalues to full possible accuracy.

Verification of dose calculations in radiotherapy

Nyholm, Tufve January 2008 (has links)
External radiotherapy is a common treatment technique for cancer. It has been shown that radiation therapy is a both clinically and economically effective treatment for many types of cancer, even though the equipment is expensive. The technology is in constant evolution and more and more sophisticated and complex techniques are introduced. One of the main tasks for physicists at a radiotherapy department is quality control, i.e. making sure that the treatments are delivered in accordance with the dosimetric intentions. Over dosage of radiation can lead to severe side effects, while under dosage reduces the probability for patient cure. The present thesis is mainly focused on the verification of the calculated dose. Requirements for independent dose calculation software are identified and the procedures using such software are described. In the publications included in the thesis an algorithm specially developed for verification of dose calculations is described and tested. The calculation uncertainties connected with the described algorithm are investigated and modeled. A brief analysis of the quality assurance procedures available and used in external radiotherapy is also included in the thesis. The main conclusion of the thesis is that independent verification of the dose calculations is feasible in an efficient and cost effective quality control system. The independent calculations do not only serve as a protection against accidents, but can also be the basis for comparisons of the dose calculation performance at different clinics.

Extraction of Broadband Equivalent Models of Hybrid Interconnect Structures

Chen, Sheng-Yu 23 July 2008 (has links)
The thesis proposes a hybrid broadband equivalent model extraction method, and our goal is to combine via structure and irregular transmission line in print circuit board for extraction of broadband SPICE-compatible model by using the time domain algorithm and full wave simulation in frequency domain, respectively. We can construct broadband SPICE-compatible macro-model scalable library with two kind of different extraction methods, tow kind of extraction of equivalent model can construct the circuit structure for designer demand. Every modules of the broadband macro model of the two extraction models are represented by the optimum pole-residue forms. Using a systematic lumped-model extraction technique, all the optimum pole-residue rational functions can be transfered into a corresponding lumped circuit model. The accuracy of Extraction of Broadband Equivalent Models is demonstrated in frequency -domain responses compared with the 3D-FDTD or HFSS simulation. In addition, the extraction model can simulate in commercial tools effectively, ex: Hspice¡BADS. Even the model can simulate signal integrality and power integrality in Hspice or ADS.
