Capoeira: possibilidade de educação emancipatória junto a jovens de classes populares?

O estudo de campo foi desenvolvido no período de junho 2010 a outubro de 2011. A questão central deste trabalho diz respeito as mudanças geradas pela prática da capoeira nos processos de ensino-aprendizagem, em termos de corporeidade, identidade e cidadania para jovens de classes populares. Visando contemplar este objetivo foram desenvolvidos três objetivos específicos: descrever como se desenvolve e se fortalece a corporeidade através da prática da capoeira; identificar como se constrói e se estrutura a identidade cultural através da prática da capoeira; examinar como é possível a edificação e o alicerce da cidadania de fato no espaço da prática da capoeira. Foram consideradas três dimensões da capoeira: os motivos de praticar capoeira, o gosto pela prática de capoeira e os resultados e mudanças geradas por essa prática. Como base teórica e metodológica de pesquisa dialogou-se com autores como Paulo Freire, Santos e Menezes, Stoer, Magalhães e Rodrigues, Brandão, Castro, Junior e Achutti, além daqueles que militam em prol da capoeira na sua labuta diária; que são Soares, Falcão, Campos entre outros. Como instrumentos de pesquisa foram utilizados a observação participante com diário de campo, entrevistas semi-estruturadas e fotografias, principalmente, para desenvolver a narrativa. Os resultados da investigação mostraram a importância do trabalho de capoeira na construção de redes solidárias de amizade e cooperação, que superam os limites da capoeira- luta e transcendem os limites pobres da matéria. Oportunizando a construção e o fortalecimento da corporeidade, identidade e cidadania. Evidencia-se a importância de uma figura de mestre ou professor mais engajado e identificado com a comunidade e, uma escola, que conheça e dialogue com a comunidade na busca da emancipação dos sujeitos na conquista do Ser Mais. / The present study had as general objective problematize and analyze the possibility of capoeira as a way of emancipatory education with the youngish of urban peripheries, in a project of capoeira developed at Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Migrantes, situated in Porto Alegre /RS Brazil. The study of field was developed in the period of June 2010 to October of 2011. The central questions of this study are the changes generated by the practice of capoeira on the process of education-learning, in term of corporeity, identity and citizenship for the youngish of the popular classes. Aiming to contemplate this objective three specific objectives were developed: To describe how do we build and fortify the corporeity through the practice of the capoeira; To identify how we build and fortify the cultural identity through the practice of the capoeira; to examine how it is possibly to build and to strength the citizenship in the space of the practice one of capoeira. Three dimensions of capoeira were considered; the purpose of the practice of capoeira, the desire by the practice of capoeira and the results and changes generated by the practice of capoeira. As methodological and theoretical framework of the research, a dialogue was set with authors as Paulo Freire, Santos and Menezes, Stoer, Magalhães and Rodrigues, Brandão, Castro, Junior and Achutti, beyond those that perform in behalf of capoeira in their daily work; they are called Soares, Falcão, Campos among others. Observation in an everyday activity, semi-structured interviews and photographs were the tools used in the research, mostly for developing the narrative. The results of the investigation showed the importance of the work of capoeira in the construction of supportive nets of friendship and cooperation that exceed the limits of capoeira fights and transcend the poor limits of the matter. Giving the opportunity to build and to strength the corporeity, identity and citizenship. Evidencing the importance of the figure of a master or a professor more committed and engaged with the community and a school, that knows and talks with the community in the search of the emancipation of the people in the achievement of being more.

Understanding Residents’ Decision-Making in Urban Regeneration: A Case Study of Kale Neighborhood in Çorum, Turkey

This study examines the decision-making processes of residents in Turkey’s urban regeneration projects employing a single case study, namely, Çorum’s Kale neighbourhood. Çorum is a city with 250,000 inhabitants located in Black Sea Region. The aim is to uncover the factors influencing residents’ acceptance or rejection of urban regeneration and the role of the Turkish government in shaping their decisions. The thesis utilizes a Gramscian theoretical framework and mainly focuses on the fluid relationship between consent and coercion (Fusaro et al., 2017). Methods used in this research include reviewing relevant project documents and newspapers, various types of interviews including semi-structured, go-along and expert interviews, field observations, and photographic documentation of the neighbourhood, along with Tillmann-Healy’s (2003) “Friendship as method” approach capitalizing on the trust between neighbours and the researcher’s grandmother who resides in the investigated urban regeneration site. The literature reveals that the main factors shaping residents’ decisions both globally and in Turkey are the extent of resident participation in these initiatives, the presence of neoliberal authoritarian governance, residents’ socioeconomic positioning, cultural identity, tenure status, informal land ownership and perception of benefits like expanded infrastructure along with enhanced living standards, as well as their fears of forced eviction and displacement. On top of these factors, in Turkey, residents’ decisions are also shaped by fear of expropriation, religious and ethnic disparities, varying laws with different powers and the combination of neoliberal authoritarian governance with Islam. The empirical findings of this thesis suggest that the central issues causing Kale neighbourhood’s residents to reject urban regeneration are the absence of economic advantages provided by the government, which involves undervaluing their existing properties, reselling newly constructed relatively smaller units with higher prices and indebting them with substantial mortgages for extended periods. All in all, this thesis finds that residents’ decision-making process is multifaceted, involving a complex interplay of diverse factors that often affect them concurrently, underscoring the necessity for a holistic examination of their motivations. The thesis contributes to the existing literature by presenting a nuanced analysis of decision-making regarding urban regeneration in a highly polarized and contentious context. Furthermore, it adds to existing studies by presenting research on understudied, peripheral geography in Turkey, offering valuable insights into urban regeneration processes outside of the urban centers.
