Μελέτη της αλληλεπίδρασης με φορητούς υπολογιστές με χρήση γραφίδας

Κατσίνη, Χριστίνα 16 June 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis was done at the HCI lab of the department of Electrical engineering and computer technology of the University of Patras. The main object was the study of collaboration through tablet PC and focused at the possibilities provided by the tablet pc to optimize the collaboration. The application used was the Synergo Client, that has been developed at the HCI lab.

A Common Component-based Software Architecture For Military And Commercial Pc-based Virtual Simulation

Lewis, Joshua 01 January 2006 (has links)
Commercially available military-themed virtual simulations have been developed and sold for entertainment since the beginning of the personal computing era. There exists an intense interest by various branches of the military to leverage the technological advances of the personal computing and video game industries to provide low cost military training. By nature of the content of the commercial military-themed virtual simulations, a large overlap has grown between the interests, resources, standards, and technology of the computer entertainment industry and military training branches. This research attempts to identify these commonalities with the purpose of systematically designing and evaluating a common component-based software architecture that could be used to implement a framework for developing content for both commercial and military virtual simulation software applications.

Cognitive Training Transfer Using A Personal Computer-based Game:a Close Quarters Battle Case Study

Woodman, Michael 01 January 2006 (has links)
Developers of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) gaming software are making remarkable strides in increasing the realism of their software. This realism has caught the attention of the training community, which has traditionally sought system and operational replication in training systems such as flight simulators. Since games are designed and marketed for entertainment and not designed for training of tasks, questions exist about the effectiveness of games as a training system in achieving the desired transfer of skills to the actual environment. Numerous studies over the past ten years have documented that PC-based simulation training environments can offer effective training for certain types of training, especially aircraft piloting tasks. Desktop games have been evaluated from a case study approach for use in aviation training (Proctor, et al., 2004) and education planning and evaluating small unit tactics) (Proctor, et al., 2002) with positive results. Based on the review of selected studies in this area, PC-based simulator platforms have been found to have a positive training impact on cognitive skills (as opposed to psycho-motor skills). Specifically, the literature review has identified that skill sets involved in team resource management, intra- and inter-team coordination, and tactical team maneuvers have been shown to benefit from the use of PC-based simulation training. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the training transfer associated with a Tactical Decision-making game, using Close Combat: First to Fight as a case study. The null hypothesis tested was that traditional field training is equivalent to virtual training combined with field training. Measurements of the subjects' performance in live training were recorded. Additionally, self assessment questionnaires were administered.

A software shell for visually impaired applications

Srinivasan, Krishnaswami January 1986 (has links)
An approach to introduce the visually impaired to personal computers is presented in this thesis. The PC used for this work was an IBM PC Portable. Use of the resident software developed in conjunction with a Votrax Voice Unit can greatly simplify PC applications for the visually impaired. Further, a method to communicate with a mainframe is also presented. Almost all of the commonly used DOS application software are supported by the software presented in this thesis. Two modes of operation are possible. The advantages and differences between these two modes are considered. A detailed discussion on the software implementation is also presented. A method to develop resident programs that need to trap PC BIOS vectors is presented. It should be noted that the shell concept presents a shell of user invoked resident applications and not a group of subprograms which can be used by other applications. / M.S.

Processor and postprocessor for a plane frame analysis program on the IBM PC

Ghabra, Fawwaz I. 15 November 2013 (has links)
In this thesis, a PROCESSOR and a POSTPROCESSOR are developed for a plane frame analysis computer program on the IBM PC. The PROCESSOR reads the data prepared by a PREPROCESSOR and solves for the unknown joint displacement using the matrix displacement method. The POSTPROCESSOR uses the results of the PROCESSOR to obtain the required responses of the structure. A chapter on testing procedures is also provided. / Master of Science

Interfacing the IBM PC with the STD bus for multiprocessing

Datta, Diptish 14 November 2012 (has links)
The advent of the Personal Computer into the technical world has, at an extremely reasonable expense and trouble, made available to us, considerable computational power. But, as it was with computers, the next logical step is to have multiple units running in concert, or, in other words, sharing the load. This leads to the concept of Multiprocessing in order to attain an enhancement in operation speed and superior efficiency. The IBM PC is a versatile and market proven personal computer with a very large volume of software support and the STD Bus is a standard that has been developed to cope with a variable support, i.e. different processors and different I/O capabilities. Together, they combine the user interface - the display and keyboard · of the PC, the processing capabilities of the PC, the I/O capabilities of the STD Bus and the support processing possible on the STD Bus. The resulting system is powerful, easy to use and it has a lot of scope for development. / Master of Science

Microcomputer programming package for the assessment of multiattribute value functions

Jones, Julia E. January 1985 (has links)
Research into multiattribute utility theory far outweighs current attempts to apply findings, while the need for usable decision techniques continues to increase. Current decision maker - analyst procedures involving decision making sessions and numerous manual calculations are considered to be overly time-consuming, except for the most important of complex decisions. The purpose of this thesis was to design and develop a microcomputer package utilizing recent improvements in decision theory to increase the efficiency of the decision making process. Algorithms for independence testing and parameter estimation have been developed for both continuous attributes and discrete attributes. Two separate packages, an additive value function package (DECISION) and a SMART technique package (SMART), are developed based on these algorithms and their validity tested by means of a case study. Both packages are written for use on a standard (256K) IBM PC microcomputer. / Master of Science
