Personally satisfying: Using Personal Style Scales to enhance the prediction of career satisfaction

Hees, Charles 01 December 2010 (has links)
The present study continues the long line of research addressing Person-Environment fit started by Frank Parsons a century ago and the construct of career satisfaction. Previous research emphasized Holland themes and specific occupational scales, with this study being the first to evaluate the higher order of personal style relating to job satisfaction. This study examined the capacity of the General Occupational Themes (GOTs) and Personal Style Scales (PSSs) of the 2005 Strong Interest Inventory in predicting job satisfaction across 8 individual samples comprising 4,938 working adults. Sequential discriminant function analyses demonstrated that sets of hypothesized PSSs significantly distinguished between satisfied and dissatisfied workers beyond the six Holland themes in all 8 occupational samples. This research provided validation and support for the newly added Team Orientation PSS. It further provided support for demographic variables related to job satisfaction, including ethnicity, gender, age, and the reason for testing.

What works for me? : the impact of the combination between 'personal style' and therapeutic orientation on a client's experience of therapy

Allen, Thomas William January 2012 (has links)
Recent research on psychotherapeutic outcome has highlighted cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) as the preferred psychotherapeutic approach for most psychological problems. There is however considerable evidence supporting the comparative effectiveness of approaches alternative to CBT. Central to this alternative evidence base is the notion that ‘personal styles’ are influential in determining individual preferences for different psychotherapeutic approaches. This study examined the effect of the combination between the ‘personal style’ of the client and the type of psychotherapeutic approach they receive (more or less directive) on the client’s experience of therapy. A second aim of this study was to explore similarities and differences in the way clients with different 'personal styles' construe therapy through analysis of repertory grid data. Thirty participants with diagnoses of anxiety and/or depression were recruited from mental health charities and a local NHS community team. Participants completed a questionnaire measuring the direction of interest element of personal style, a self-report questionnaire rating their experience of psychotherapy and a repertory grid exploring their construing of psychotherapy. The study found that the fit between an individual’s ‘personal style’ and the type of therapeutic approach they received was predictive of therapy experience. Analysis of the repertory grids revealed few differences in the construing of participants with different ‘personal styles’. The use of a global measure of therapeutic experience was original in research looking at the helpful aspects of psychotherapy. The strengths and limitations of the study are discussed and ideas for future research are recommended.

The research was articulated from the perception that there is a mismatch between the multiplicity of proposals that the current fashion displays and the qualifying standards stipulated by personal styling. Given this context, the dissertation presents the cases of breaks of rules on dressing as a possibility to expand the repertoire for the personal styling. Taking the bricolage as a methodological option, we designed a set of theoretical tools capable of dialoguing with the data collected in media reports, blog posts, individual interviews and TV interviews. Rather than gathering information from various sources, this research promotes an interaction between my positions on the directions of personal styling, the clues that reveal breaking rules on dressing and the point of view of authors from the fields of fashion, philosophy, cultural studies and visual culture, building a reflection on the theme. Given this panorama, I try to discuss how the stylists can position themselves nowadays, how they can expand their field of action and also how they can act taking into consideration their customers’ lifestyle.

The relationship of personality factors to the educational orientation of adult educators

Hoogendoorn, Anne Roberta, n/a January 1989 (has links)
This research study was in the field of adult education, focusing on the role of adult educators. Sixty four adult educators in the Australian Capital Territory, from a wide range of institutions took part in the study. The educational orientation of the adult educators, on an andragogical-pedagogical continuum, was measured by The Educational Orientation Questionnaire, (Hadley, 1974). This test was based on Knowles, theory of andragogy "the art and science of helping adults learn" and its corollary, pedagogy, "the art of teaching children" (Knowles, 1985). The E.O.Q. tested adult educators' attitudes in six areas of education to discover the extent to which educators were more andragogical or pedagogical in their orientation. Four personality dimensions of adult educators were measured by The Personal Style Inventory (Champagne and Hogan, 1979) - a test based on Jung's theory of psychological types. The data was analysed and four null hypotheses were tested. Two were rejected and two were accepted. The findings revealed that there was a statistically significant correlation at the .01 level of significance, showing a definite relationship between two of the dimensions, extraversion-introversion and sensing-intuition, and the educational orientation of adult educators: extraversion and intuition with a more andragogical orientation and introversion and sensing with a more pedagogical orientation. The interpretation of these findings raised numerous questions and issues on the role of adult educators as well as recommendations for further research on the correlation of other variables with the educational orientation of adult educators.

The life of the fashion blogger : an exploratory study of self-identity and self-presentation on personal style bloggers

Simunic, Andrea January 2017 (has links)
Background:   The phenomenon of the 21st century, fashion bloggers, are having something that the glossy fashion magazines and fashion advertisements never had – a personal touch through their identity. Through sharing experiences, opinions and feelings about garments, shopping and other fashion related subjects, fashion bloggers share their self. Hence, blog can be the space where bloggers present, create or edit their self, shifting between who they really are and who they desire to be.Purpose:   The purpose of this study is to get a deeper insight into the phenomenon of the fashion blogger by investigating bloggers self-presentation through the blog and the relation of their online identity to their real- and ideal-self.Design/method:   This study was designed as an exploratory two case study. The data was collected by using three different methods: the content analysis, the go-along method and the semi-structured interviews. The sources included blog content, human behavior and verbalnarratives. The thematic analysis technique was used to analyze the data. Results:   Case I, a professional Croatian blogger, showed the usage of indirect elements to present the self on the blog and through blogging activities as well as the usage of ingratiation to maintain personal and business relationships, and competence to present the self as professionally competent. It also showed the usage of photo shooting as a cue for impression management as well as the struggle between different selves on the blog. Finally, the results highlighted the role of the blog in actualizing the self. Case II, a hobby Croatian blogger, showed the usage of direct and indirect elements to present the self on the blog and through blogging activities, as well as the intention to create a ‘fashionable personae’. It showed the usage of ingratiation to appear likeable and to get recognition, and competence to present the self as social. Analysis indicated the practice of fashion through dressing with an intention to create the ‘blogger’ identity and reach the ideal-self. The blog was found to be the place for practicing the self-confidence and the self-identity construction. Conclusion:   Case I showed the extensive conscious usage of the blog features and engagement into the blogging activities to present the self and usage of two self-presentation strategies; ingratiation and competence. Overall, it showed that the identity presented on the blog is majorly a reflection of already constructed identity and descriptive self while the significance of the blog is seen in the desire to reach self-actualization. Case II showed more unconscious usage of the blog features and engagement into the blogging activities to present the self and usage of two self-presentation strategies: ingratiation and competence. It also showed that the online identity on the blog mainly serves as a ‘trial identity’ through which the real-self is yetto be found and defined and through which the ideal-self is constantly reached. This study presents the first step into understanding how can blogger’s self-identity and self-presentation can be beneficial for the brand’s marketing strategy.

OBRAZY A VIZE V ORCHESTRÁLNÍM DÍLE SVATOPLUKA HAVELKY / magery and Visions in the Orchestral Works of Svatopluk Havelka

Andršová, Eliška January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to explore the role of the visual arts and a composer's views in his orchestral compositions. It also examines the composer's attitude to the contemporary world. Based on my own analysis, as well as other published studies and reviews, the paper describes the elements of Havelka's music and reflections of visual and literary sources in his orchestral compositions. We can divide Havelka's orchestral work into three periods. Havelka's personal compositional style was based on the tradition of modern European music of the 20th century during his first period. At this time, Havelka composed his First Symphony and cantata Praise of Light, which manifests the composer's relationship to Communism. In the second creative period (1964-1975), Havelka composed mainly short orchestral compositions, such as Foam, Che Guevara, Hommage á Hieronymus Bosch and Pyrrhos. During this period Havelka's sources of inspiration refer to visual art, paintings and personal visions. The last period of Havelka's work is connected with spiritual work and reflects the composer's relationship to the Christian faith. Due to the fact that Havelka's work is firmly connected with his personal convictions and his relationship to the visual arts, this paper goes through Havelka's entire orchestral work in...

Examining the Relationship between Career Interests, Styles, and Subjective Well-Being with the Strong Interest Inventory

Buelow, Kristine 01 August 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The Strong Interest Inventory (SII; Donnay, Morris, Schaubhut, & Thompson, 2005) has a broad research base commonly comprised of vocationally-relevant constructs such as career satisfaction (Hees, 2010), self-efficacy (Betz & Borgen, 2000), and educational aspirations (Rottinghaus, Lindley, Green, & Borgen, 2002). The present study aimed to expand the research base on the SII by linking the fields of vocational and positive psychology by examining the relationships between vocational interests, personal styles, and subjective well-being. This study focused specifically on the General Occupational Themes (GOTs) and Personal Style Scales (PSSs) of the SII by exploring the relationship between these scales and subjective well-being across a sample of 4945 working adults in eight occupations, including administrative assistant, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) fields composite, realtor, elementary school teacher, sales manager, graphic designer, attorney, and automobile mechanic. Regression analyses demonstrated that the GOTs and PSSs individually explain a significant portion of variance in subjective well-being, as well as that the PSSs explain a significant amount of variance in subjective well-being above and beyond the GOTs. Occupation-specific hypotheses for GOTs and PSSs were also supported for 4 of the 8 occupations. This study provides further validation for the 2005 SII, specifically the newest PSS, Team Orientation. Future research, theory, and practice implications are discussed herein.

FAKTORER HOS SJUKSKÖTERSKAN SOM PÅVERKAR PATIENTENS FÖRTROENDE OCH TRYGGHETSKÄNSLAEn intervjustudieCaroline FranssonSara PerssonFransson, C & Persson, S. Faktorer hos sjuksköterskan som påverkar patientens förtroende och trygghetskänsla. En intervjustudie. Examensarbete i omvårdnad 10 poäng. Nyckelord: bemötande, förtroende, personlig stil, sjuksköterska, trygghet / FACTORS IN NURSES THAT INFLUENCE THE PATIENTS TRUST AND FEELING OF SECURITYAn interview studyCaroline FranssonSara PerssonFransson, C & Persson, S. Zvukové vlastnosti projevů moderátorů vybraných televizních talk show / Sound properties of moderators' speeches in selected TV talk shows

Baptistová, Lucie January 2021 (has links)
The thesis investigates speech sound characteristics of three different television talk show hosts. Using the experimental analysis it tries to inspect all their typical attributes, especially the suprasegmental features of their speeches. The selected television hosts are both from public and commercial television stations. The first part of the theoretical section introduces the talk show television programming genre and specifies its broadcasting share among the observed television channels, next the diversity of Czech talk shows is introduced together with the individual hosts whose utterances will be analyzed, also the role of communication in mass media as well as the host journalist figure is presented, and the features of publicly spoken speeches are described. Within the part devoted to languages and speeches the linguistic discipline of phonetics is introduced followed by the individual continuous speech sound properties and their specific attributes. The practical section researches performance of the particular hosts and it specifically tries to deal with their sound aspects in order to evaluate whether some typical attributes can be found (primarily within the areas of intonation, pauzation and tempo). Further it observes whether some same sound attributes are shared among the talk...

Vliv značek na módní a lifestyle blogy / The impact of brands on fashion and lifestyle blogs

Cirhanová, Jiřina January 2015 (has links)
This master thesis' main topic is fashion and lifestyle blogs and the impact of the brands and the ideal of beauty that is widely promoted in the media on them. The aim of this thesis is to find out which type of the brands can be mostly found in the blog posts with personal style of the successful bloggers and if there is a type of physical appearance that prevails among them. I am using the quantitative image analysis of Gillian Rose to test these hypotheses on photographs of bloggers. I was inspired by the work of Catherine Lutz and Jane Collins. My hypotheses are tested on photographs from three websites (Lookbook, Chictopia, Bloglovin') where bloggers are hierarchized. Bloggers are opinion leaders. This means it is advantageous for the marketing departments of brands to collaborate with them because bloggers can effectively influence their readers. Brands play an important role in life of people that believe brands can non-verbally tell the character of the brand consumer. In these days the Eurocentric ideal of beauty and the ideal of thin bodies are forced especially on women by media. The thinness is in the advertisements connected with attractiveness and successfulness, which is transferred also in the real life of people. The conclusion of this thesis indicates that there are most often...
