Using instructional video to teach a complex motor skill

Maraska, Amy Reneé, Drollinger, Karen 01 January 1998 (has links)
Research has shown that motor skill performance can be improved with the use of a dynamic visual model that helps to create a cognitive representation and serve as a standard for learning. The purpose of this project is to produce a demonstration videotape that thoroughly analyzes the basic actions involved with pitching a softball for strikes.

Barreiras à prática de atividade física em indivíduos com doença de Alzheimer no município de Rio Claro - SP /

Pereira, Jessica Rodrigues. January 2017 (has links)
The presence of diseases can be a factor that hinders a practice of physical activity, thus becoming a barrier. Alzheimer's disease (AD) may be one of the factors that act as a barrier. Considering that in AD the practice of physical activity is reputable as non-pharmacological treatment, is it that the patients with the disease are practicing it at optimal frequency and intensity? The aim of this study was to analyze as main barriers that impede a practice of physical activity in patients with Alzheimer's disease. The present study had a cross-sectional, epidemiologically based population-based design. A total of 104 elderly people living in the urban area of the city of Rio Claro - SP, an interior and medium-sized city, were evaluated. The sampling process was performed through consultation with public and private health services that referred elderly with clinical diagnosis of AD for research. The participant with AD and their caregiver answered an interview through tests and questionnaires, which lasted approximately 45 minutes. Among the evaluation instruments used, in particular: Questionnaire on Barriers to Practice of Physical Activities (QBPAF); Supplementary Questionnaire (QC), which was prepared for a category of AD-related direct barriers; Qualitative Questionnaire (QQ) about habits of physical activity practice. Regarding the QB... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor

Experimenting with affective bodies: Young people, health and fitness in an urban after-school program

Safron, Carrie January 2020 (has links)
Young people learn about and interact with health and fitness through multiple pedagogical sites, including after-school programs, print and social media, fitness centers, families and peers. As such, the purpose of this dissertation was to explore the ways in which Black and Latinx youth interacted with health and fitness in an urban after-school context. To do so, a visual ethnographic approach was used over 18-months, working with youth in different ways over that time period. Data generation methods included participant observation (field notes, informal conversations), semi-structured interviews, participant-driven visual diaries and a scrapbooking project. Data analysis involved various inquiry techniques such as thinking through (affect) theory, Maggie MacLure’s interpretation of coding, and collage as analysis. Affect theory, from a new materialist and feminist lens, framed this dissertation. Using these theoretical and methodological approaches, I share three manuscripts that highlight affective flows produced at different points in the dissertation research. These involve (1) a focus on beginning to experiment with visual methods and five youth; (2) a pedagogical encounter between four youth, two fitness professionals and myself; and (3) a collage-as-analysis that held potential to de-territorialize research practices as usual. Through these manuscripts, I argue that this dissertation begins to create (non-traditional) ways to reimagine health and fitness so that all bodies (Black/Latinx youth and fitness professionals, White woman researcher, images, texts, words) come to matter for research and pedagogical practices with high school-aged youth in an urban after-school context.

Study of the Programs of Professional Preparation in Physical Education Colleges in India; Comparison of the Programs with the Recommendations Made by a National Conference on Professional Preparation in Health Education, Physical Education and Recreation Education, Washington, D. C., 1962

Quraishi, Abdul S. 05 1900 (has links)
Data were obtained through the syllabi and the questionnaires returned by the head of physical education institutes in India. From a total of thirty-seven questionnaires sent, sixteen were returned representing fourteen different institutions. The programs in India showed some diversity among the institutions regarding the length of time required to complete the courses and minimum qualifications prescribed for admission to the program. The programs did not meet the recommendations of the conference either in length or content. The newer programs more nearly met the recommendations.

Short-term Training Effects of Dynamic Warm Up Volume on Speed, Power, and Agility

Senn, Daniel LeRoy January 2011 (has links)
This study examined the short-term training effects of two volumes of a dynamic warm up performed 4 days per week over a 3 1/2-week period. A total of 25 Division III wrestlers volunteered for the study. Three participants either dropped out or were unable to attend post-testing, resulting in 22 total participants completing the study. Groups were divided into control, low volume, and high volume groups. All participants completed pre and poststudy performance tests including the standing long jump, proagility, start-stop-cut, and 30- meter sprint. The low and high volume training groups each performed the same dynamic warm up prior to each pre-season captain's practice. The control group did not participate in an organized warm up. The low volume group performed one set of each warm up exercise, and the high volume group performing two sets of each warm up exercise. Data analysis indicated significant increases in performance for the standing long jump (p = .011) and start-stop-cut (p = .000) measures among the entire sample population. However, there was no significant difference between the groups in these measures. No significant results were found either for the sample as a whole or between groups for the proagility and 30-meter measures. The increased performance of all groups, including the control group, fails to provide evidence for the effectiveness of training with either warm up volume. Further research is needed to address limitations of this study to determine effectiveness of various warm up volumes.

The public relations value of a high school circus

Unknown Date (has links)
"Since Claxton High School is among the few schools in its geographical area which have a physical education program, and since that program has been in effect for only a short period of time, it is felt that the people of the community need to be more fully acquainted with the program in order to appreciate its values. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine if the high school circus, presented as representative of the total physical education program, is valuable as a public relations project"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1954." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Kenneth D.
