Measuring the Delivery Precision at Holmen Paper

Bartoll, Christian, Wibaeus, Johan January 2012 (has links)
This thesis aims to evaluate measurement techniques for delivery precision at Holmen Paper (HP). Delivery precision is an important KPI for a business, because it gives an indication of how well the company’s  supply chain is performing. At HP, the Operation and Logistics division, wants to use the result  to  assess  that  if  they  are  doing  a  good  job  planning  HP’s  production  and  transportation.   The purpose of the thesis: “The  purpose  of  the  thesis  is  to  determine  how  the  KPI  delivery  precision ought to be measured for  various  order  types  in  Holmen  Paper’s  supply  chain.” A great deal of literature was initially reviewed on the subject of delivery precision, and different sources suggested alternative ways in which it may be determined. To understand the logistics and information flow, two flow-charts where constructed. This was done in order to obtain a holistic overview  of  HP’s  order-delivery process, and furthermore, to see where the required data could be retrieved from the system. After evaluating the supply chain, it was concluded   that   the   SCOR   models’   pre-defined Key Performance Indicator Perfect Order Fulfillment (POF) and Perfect Order Index (POI), were the best way to measure the delivery precision. Both theories are well known in the logistics sector and both are built upon lower level metrics. The metrics measure if an order is delivered satisfactorily to a customer, according the parameters of time, quantity, quality and documentation. The thesis, however, rejected the parameter of documentation in dialogue with HP (and because the parameter has little to do with the operators work at Operation and Logistics). Data  was  collected  from  HP’s  database  in  an  attempt  to  measure  the  delivery  precision  according  to   both the theories. However, it was concluded that the calculated value was unreliable. This was mainly due to fact that the data required did not exist, and the data that did exist was not reliable. The data was seen as unreliable because there was no information of when the data was collected along the supply chain. Therefore, the thesis presents a model that will help HP implement the KPI delivery precision in the future. At the completion of the study, it was concluded that HP, initially, needs to implement a system to save data regarding the reason and source of order modifications. Additionally, it is suggested that HP should try to measure the delivery precision as close to the customer as possible. Currently, the data required to do this does not exist. To obtain this data, HP needs to implement some sort of receipt when the customer receives the goods.

Automatic Identification of Points of Interest in Global Navigation Satellite System Data: A Spatial Temporal Approach

Tran, Khoa Anh 01 January 2013 (has links)
In addition to the emergence of smartphones and tablets in recent years, the rise of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) has allowed mobile tracking applications to become popular and be put into many uses. Analyzing tracking records to identify points of interest (POIs) is useful for both prediction applications and research such as human behavior analysis, transportation planning, and especially travel surveys. Past research in travel surveys has shown that a GPS mobile phone-based survey is a useful tool for collecting information about individuals. Moreover, a passive travel survey collection is preferred to an active travel survey method by the respondents and the analysts because it is proven to be less error prone. However, passive collection remains a challenge due to a lack of high accuracy algorithms to automatically identify trip starts and trip ends. While travel surveys need a POI identification algorithm to carry out passive information collection, mobile tracking applications must be careful not to affect the user's battery life, which limits the number of GPS coordinates that can be recorded and therefore affects the accuracies of existing POI identification algorithms. This thesis presents Automatic Spatial Temporal Identification of Points of Interest (ASTIPI), an unsupervised spatial temporal algorithm to identify POIs. ASTIPI utilizes the temporal and spatial properties of the dataset to obtain a high accuracy of POI identification, even on a reduced GPS dataset that uses techniques to conserve battery life on mobile devices. While reducing outliers within POIs, ASTIPI also has a linear running time and maintains the temporal orders of the location data so that arrival and departure information can be easily extracted and thus, users' trips can be quickly identified. Using data from real mobile devices, evaluations of ASTIPI and other existing algorithms are performed, showing that ASTIPI obtains the highest accuracy of POI identification with an average accuracy of 88% when performing on full datasets generated using the GPS Auto-Sleep module and an average accuracy of 59% when performing on a reduced dataset generated using both the GPS Auto-Sleep module and the Critical Points algorithm.

Risk Factors, Resilient Resources, Coping & Outcomes: A Longitudinal Model of Adaptation to POI

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: Female infertility can present a significant challenge to quality of life. To date, few, if any investigations have explored the process by which women adapt to premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), a specific type of infertility, over time. The current investigation proposed a bi-dimensional, multi-factor, model of adjustment characterized by the identification of six latent factors representing personal attributes (resilience resources and vulnerability), coping (adaptive and maladaptive) and outcomes (distress and wellbeing). Measures were collected over the period of one year; personal attributes were assessed at Time 1, coping at Time 2 and outcomes at Time 3. It was hypothesized that coping factors would mediate associations between personal attributes and outcomes. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), simple regressions and single mediator models were utilized to test study hypotheses. Overall, with the exception of coping, the factor structure was consistent with predictions. Two empirically derived coping factors, and a single standalone strategy, avoidance, emerged. The first factor, labeled "approach coping" was comprised of strategies directly addressing the experience of infertility. The second was comprised of strategies indicative of "letting go /moving on." Only avoidance significantly mediated the association between vulnerability and distress. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Psychology 2011

Poi Poi Revolution: A real-time feedback training system for objectmanipulation

Walker, Ryan Christopher Gareth January 2013 (has links)
The affordability and availability of fast motion cameras presents an ideal opportunity to build computer systems that create real-time feed- back loops. These systems can enable users to learn at a faster rate than traditional systems, as well as present a more engaging experience. In this dissertation, I document the development and evaluation of a real- time audio and visual feedback system for geometric poi manipulation. The goal of the system is to present an experiential and objectively su- perior learning tool when compared to traditional learning techniques in the object manipulation community. For the evaluation, I conduct an experiment that compares the feedback training system with traditional learning techniques in the object manipulation community. The results suggest that the feedback system presents a more engaging experience than traditional mirror feedback training, and conclude that further re- search is warranted.

Poia mai taku poi: Unearthing the knowledge of the past : a critical review of written literature on the poi in New Zealand and the Pacific

Paringatai, Karyn Ailsa, n/a January 2005 (has links)
The primary objective of this thesis is to review literature written about poi in order to construct an historical overview of poi from pre-contact Maori society until the 1920s. The mythological and Polynesian origins of poi, traditional and contemporary materials and methods used to make poi, early travellers, explorers, and settlers accounts of poi and two case studies on the use of poi in the Taranaki and Te Arawa areas will be included in this thesis. The information will be used to show the changes in poi that have occured since Maori and European arrival to New Zealand until the 1920s.

Takina ko au, Takina ko koe! Te ahuatanga o te whakataetae kapa haka

Ka'ai-Oldman, Rachael Te Awhina, n/a January 2005 (has links)
Nga mahi a Tane-rore me Te Rehia (traditional Maori performing arts) is one of the most visible aspects of Maori culture. Traditional Maori performing arts is one of the key elements seen on the marae and it marked the first experiences between the Maori and European explorers. However, since the arrival of tauiwi (foreigners) the art has evolved, largely as a result of outside influences. Many of the changes that have been introduced to the art have been a product of the struggle of Maori to maintain their language and customs, despite the onslaught of cultural domination. An example of one such change is the introduction of a Western style competition, that is, a formal style of competition that includes judges, assessment criteria and/or competition rules, and prizes. This thesis will explore the evolution of traditional Maori performing arts with particular reference to how this traditional art form has been affected by the 'Western' notion of competition.

Personalized POI Recommendation on Location-Based Social Networks

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: The rapid urban expansion has greatly extended the physical boundary of our living area, along with a large number of POIs (points of interest) being developed. A POI is a specific location (e.g., hotel, restaurant, theater, mall) that a user may find useful or interesting. When exploring the city and neighborhood, the increasing number of POIs could enrich people's daily life, providing them with more choices of life experience than before, while at the same time also brings the problem of "curse of choices", resulting in the difficulty for a user to make a satisfied decision on "where to go" in an efficient way. Personalized POI recommendation is a task proposed on purpose of helping users filter out uninteresting POIs and reduce time in decision making, which could also benefit virtual marketing. Developing POI recommender systems requires observation of human mobility w.r.t. real-world POIs, which is infeasible with traditional mobile data. However, the recent development of location-based social networks (LBSNs) provides such observation. Typical location-based social networking sites allow users to "check in" at POIs with smartphones, leave tips and share that experience with their online friends. The increasing number of LBSN users has generated large amounts of LBSN data, providing an unprecedented opportunity to study human mobility for personalized POI recommendation in spatial, temporal, social, and content aspects. Different from recommender systems in other categories, e.g., movie recommendation in NetFlix, friend recommendation in dating websites, item recommendation in online shopping sites, personalized POI recommendation on LBSNs has its unique challenges due to the stochastic property of human mobility and the mobile behavior indications provided by LBSN information layout. The strong correlations between geographical POI information and other LBSN information result in three major human mobile properties, i.e., geo-social correlations, geo-temporal patterns, and geo-content indications, which are neither observed in other recommender systems, nor exploited in current POI recommendation. In this dissertation, we investigate these properties on LBSNs, and propose personalized POI recommendation models accordingly. The performance evaluated on real-world LBSN datasets validates the power of these properties in capturing user mobility, and demonstrates the ability of our models for personalized POI recommendation. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Computer Science 2014
