Integrating ChatGPT into the UX Design Process : Ideation and Prototyping with LLMs

Ekvall, Hubert, Winnberg, Patrik January 2023 (has links)
This paper presents an exploratory work on using Large Language Models (LLM) in User Experience (UX) design. Previous research shows that UX designers struggle to envision novel designs and to prototype with AI as a design material. We set out to investigate the question of how designers can be sensitized to LLMs, and their implications for the professional role of UX designers. Using autobiographical design, we develop a prototype of a digital workspace (the “PromptBoard”) for designing and prototyping chatbots utilizing ChatGPT. A design sprint workshop with six participants is performed, in an effort to answer the research questions by working with the PromptBoard. Discussions and participant-designed artifacts are analysed using thematic analysis. Findings include that participants are able to express design ideas and successfully create chatbots using the tool but express a conflicting sense of lacking creativity or ownership of the results. Implications to the field of UX design are discussed.

The Role of Prompts as Focus on Form on Uptake

Boisvert, Brian Bates 01 September 2011 (has links)
Students are human beings; they, like all of us, make mistakes. In the language classroom, these mistakes may be written, spoken, and even thought. How, if, when, under what conditions and to what degree these errors are treated is of current concern in research regarding language acquisition. In their meta-analysis of interactional feedback, Mackey and Goo (2007) report that the utilization of feedback is beneficial and find evidence that feedback within the context of a focus on form environment is also facilitative of acquisition, echoing Norris and Ortega's (2000) positive findings regarding focus on form research. Thus, the role of feedback has found a somewhat limited, very informative and equally persuasive niche in current theory building and research. There is lack of research specifically addressing the role and effects of forms of feedback, other than recasts, namely prompts, in the second language classroom where the focus in on language use as a means of communication rather than the objectification of it. This context employs focus on form, a brief pedagogical intervention that momentarily shifts the focus of the class from meaning to linguistic form (See Long, 1991). Because prompts withhold correct forms (Lyster, 2004; Lyster & Saito, 2010), encourage students to simultaneously notice and self-correct (Lyster & Ranta, 1997), and push modified, student-generated output (de Bot, 1996; Lyster & Izquierdo, 2009; Lyster & Saito, 2010; Swain & Lapkin, 1995), they may be theoretically more appropriate for a focus on form context. This study examines this role in its function and efficacy comparing an implicit prompt, the clarification request, with an explicit prompt, metalinguistic feedback on students' spoken errors in the use of a very complex target structure, the subjunctive in nominal clauses in Spanish. Efficacy of the feedback is measured through successful student uptake, that is, whether or not students are able to self-repair as a result of the intervention and then through development operationalized as mean gains in a pre-test/post-test design. Statistical significance is shown for uptake with metalinguistic feedback only, however no development is shown as a result of any feedback due to the target structure's acquisition complexity.

PROMPT-ASSISTED RELATION FUSION IN KNOWLEDGE GRAPH ACQUISITION

Xiaonan Jing (14230196) 08 December 2022 (has links)

Knowledge Base (KB) systems have been studied for decades. Various approaches have been explored in acquiring accurate and scalable KBs. Recently, many studies focus on Knowledge Graphs (KG) which uses a simple triple representation. A triple consists of a head entity, a predicate, and a tail entity. The head entity and the tail entity are connected by the predicate which indicates a certain relation between them. Three main research fields can be identified in KG acquisition. First, relation extraction aims at extracting the triples from the raw data. Second, entity linking addresses mapping the same entity together. Last, knowledge fusion integrates heterogeneous sources into one. This dissertation focuses on relation fusion, which is a sub-process of knowledge fusion. More specifically, this dissertation aims to investigate if the concurrently popular prompt-based learning method can assist with relation fusion. A framework to acquire a KG is proposed to work with a real world dataset. The framework contains a Preprocessing module which annotates raw sentences and links known entities to the triples; a Prompting module, which generates and processes prompts for prediction with Pretrained Language Models (PLMs); and a Relation Fusion module, which creates predicate representations, clusters embeddings, and derives cluster labels. A series of experiments with comparison prompting groups are conducted. The results indicate that prompt-based learning, if applied appropriately, can help with grouping similar predicates. The framework proposed in this dissertation can be used eectively for assisting human experts with the creation of relation types during knowledge acquisition.

An Assessment of Digital Stimulus Prompts to Teach Conditional Discriminations to Children with Autism

Niland, Haven Sierra 07 1900 (has links)
Effective and efficient skill-acquisition procedures must be identified to support individualized behavioral programming for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To do this, practitioners and researchers may use assessment-based instruction. Prompts are a common teaching strategy to promote skill acquisition. The purpose of this applied study was to use assessment-based instruction to evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of within- and extra-stimulus prompts to teach conditional discriminations to two children with ASD. We identified stimulus prompts using a survey of popular children's games and conducted a tablet-based instruction readiness assessment. Stimulus prompts involved motion (within-stimulus) and pointing (extra-stimulus) to evoke correct responses in the presence of a discriminative stimulus. We used an adapted alternating treatments design with a no-treatment control condition to evaluate the effects of both prompt types across multiple sets of stimuli. Both stimulus prompt types were efficacious in facilitating skill acquisition for two of three participants. Little difference was observed in the time to mastery with either prompt. Neither stimulus prompt was efficacious for the third participant. Assessment results will be used to inform clinical programming to teach conditional discriminations to participants and contribute to research on designing and implementing assessments of skill-acquisition procedures.

Designing for reminiscence : Exploring design concepts for digital mementos and social interaction

Bröms, Ylva January 2023 (has links)
Mementos are keepsakes that support memory and reminiscence of lived experiences, people, and locations. Memories have both individual and social functions, where sharing experiences with others facilitates and maintains relationships and social connections, and belonging to other people. With access to digital technology, the collection of mementos has changed from physical to increasingly digital items. This has created new challenges in the usage and interaction of mementos. This project aimed to understand what elements influence interaction with digital mementos and how they can support social interaction. The research through design methodology was utilized as a foundation of the design process, and with a questionnaire, interviews, a variety of design exploration methods, and prototyping led to the validation of the concept Re:Vive - a mobile app prototype that supports collection and interaction with digital mementos. The outcome of the project showed that the process of collection, curation, and interaction influences engagement with digital mementos. Varied memento types, prompts, and reflections can be used when designing to encourage active engagement. Digital mementos can support social interaction through the use of mementos by supporting conversations, creating active participation in the experience, and inspiring future social events. This work provides a foundation for future studies on social interactions and digital mementos. /
Examensarbetet är utfört vid Institutionen för teknik och naturvetenskap (ITN) vid Tekniska fakulteten, Linköpings universitet

TEACH-TIE: A PROGRAM FOR TEACHING A CHILD WITH AND A CHILD WITHOUT AUTISM TO TIE THEIR SHOELACES USING VIDEO PROMPTING AND BACKWARDS CHAINING

Montalmont, Bianca January 2018 (has links)
This project sought to evaluate the effects of video prompting in combination with backwards chaining to increase proficiency of tying shoe-laces using a changing criterion design. Two children, one diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and one neurotypical were invited to participate in this study. Following baseline, shoe-tying prompt videos and backwards chaining were used to teach shoe-tying. Video prompting plus backwards chaining increased the typically developing participant’s proficiency with performing a larger percentage of steps of the targeted skill independently following intervention. However, the participant with ASD was unable to meet criterion and the study was terminated for him due to challenging behavior. These results indicate that the combination of point-of-view video prompts along with backwards chaining can be effective in teaching children to tie their shoelaces. These results also indicate that children with ASD may need additional supports with this intervention to reach acquisition criterion. Parents reported satisfaction both with the procedures undertaken and with the outcomes of the intervention. / Applied Behavioral Analysis

Investigating Prosocial Behavior: A Case Study of Littering in Laos

Norrgren, Lisa, Swahnberg, Hanna January 2016 (has links)
Using vignette experiments, this thesis examines individuals’ decision-making in various social dilemmas. A case study of littering behavior amongst university students in Lao People's Democratic Republic is used to investigate whether individual preferences are stable across littering dilemmas and other social dilemmas. This study further investigates if a visual prompt can encourage prosocial behavior in littering situations. The results show that behavior in social dilemmas is dependent on individual preferences. Additionally, the study finds little evidence that visual prompts could be used in order to efficiently decrease littering in Laos. However, a negative relationship is found between littering behavior and knowledge regarding the consequences of littering. These findings indicate that policy makers could use knowledge increasing campaigns in order to increase prosocial decision making regarding littering. Yet, further studies are needed in order to validate the results. Lastly, we also find differences in what influence littering behavior, depending on the item being littered.

Comparação do tempo de apresentação de dois tipos de dicas no ensino de respostas intraverbais a crianças com desenvolvimento típico / Comparison of the increase in the time of presentation of two types of prompts in teaching intraverbal responses and their effects for children with typical development

Tardem, Marcio Felipe 01 October 2018 (has links)
Among complex behavioral relationships are verbal relations. Behavior Analysis studies such events prioritizing the fundamental variables involved, analyzed by the three term contingency. One of the greatest characteristics of a child with developmental disorder is the delay in language acquisition or expansion. In this sense, previous studies have sought to identify effective procedures in the acquisition and expansion of verbal operants. Among the effective procedures are those that employ prompts. It is already known that the history of reinforcement with a certain prompt influences the speed of intraverbal operant acquisition. Previous studies point to the hypothesis that the time of exposed prompts to the participants may influence intraverbal operant acquisition. However, this variable did not exist been measured and controlled so far. The objective of the present study was to compare increased time of exposed presentation of textual and tact prompt and verify effects on intraverbal responses acquisition. The results showed that for three of the five participants, the time of presentation of the prompts had an effect on the speed of acquisition of intraverbal responses, one can conclude this because there was a decrease in the blocks of attempts to reach the learning criterion when there was manipulation of the time of exposed of the prompts

Développement d'un dispositif expérimental basé sur la
digitalisation des signaux et dédié à la caractérisation des
fragments de fission et des neutrons prompte émis

Varapai, Nathallia 07 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
